Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer, yet few Americans test their homes for radon, particularly in rural areas. The academic team and community partners engaged the public library systems in four rural counties to offer digital radon detectors for check-out as a means of increasing the public’s access to free radon testing. The check-out procedures and instructional materials were created through an iterative process, and library personnel were educated on radon and home radon testing prior to launching the lending program. Library patrons reported high usability, feasibility, and acceptability of the program. Library patron- staff interactions …

Reflecting On 10 Years Of The Pr Xchange, Mark Aaron Polger

The author reflects on their 10years serving as co-chair of the PR Xchange Awards Competition, an annual library marketing contest sponsored by Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) (now Core), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The article briefly traces the history of the PR Xchange Awards and discusses the changes over the last decade. Additionally, the art-icle describes how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the contest, how libraries pivoted when designing future promotional materials, how judges assess the submissions, and the potential for future growth of the PR Xchange Awards.

Museum biological collections store species data that can be utilized in research on biodiversity, environmental change, invasive species, public health, and disease. The University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, which began in 1905, houses over 750,000 specimens and has not yet been digitized. Making data publicly accessible via the internet makes the data available to the entire scientific community. The goal of this project was to create a digital resource to allow greater access to the University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum holdings. In January 2021, the Christopher Center Library at Valparaiso University, commenced a Mental Wellness Initiative to address the growing rates of neurodiversity and mental health concerns that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative started as a simple plan to increase mental wellness resources and then blossomed into a collaborative, cross-departmental approach to offering wellness spaces and programming within the library. In 2020, many small communities in California’s Central Valley lost their public libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, the public library in rural Shafter is thriving today as a result of a unique partnership between the local community college and Shafter: the college provides ongoing library staffing for the city’s library, while the city provides facilities, collections, and oversight for the library. This partnership, though not without its challenges, has provided both Shafter Library and Bakersfield College Library with a singular opportunity to engage multiple communities and expand library access beyond traditional conceptions of an academic or a public library. …

Background: In the United States (U.S.), falls are the leading cause of injury among adults 65 and over, resulting in 36 million falls yearly (Moreland et al., 2020). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2023), one in four older adults experiences a fall each year. Falls are the world's second most prominent cause of accidental deaths (World Health Organization [WHO], 2021). Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults (Moreland et al., 2020).

Implementing research findings influences professional growth, provides evidence, and improves practice. Time and money go to waste if research findings are not adequately used. This study was set to understand how LIS Masters and PhDs research findings influence professional practices in academic libraries. The qualitative study used an online semi-structured interview to collect data from twelve (12) selected academic libraries in the Sub Sahara, Africa. Data was analysed thematically.
