The Anchor, Volume 131.06: October 18, 2017, Hope College
The Anchor: 2017
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

style="font-family: "Times New Roman";">Digital information and communication technologies are rapidly changing how we understand our identities and institutions. Five hundred years ago, new printing technologies created conditions that enabled the Protestant reformation and profoundly changed the world. Today, we are in the midst of a digital revolution. But what is being reformed, and what are we reforming? This session will explore the nature of our present information age and the theological questions it raises, touching on theological principles, cultural critiques, and spiritual practices that can help us reflect on digital reformation and transformation.

We Can See Ourselves Here: Strategically Building A Library Collection To Support Women In It, Heidi Blackburn, Meghan Salsbury
We Can See Ourselves Here: Strategically Building A Library Collection To Support Women In It, Heidi Blackburn, Meghan Salsbury
Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
Representation of positive role models of all genders, races, and ethnicities is crucial for the recruitment, promotion, and retention of females in IT fields. Whether ages five or twenty-five, exposure to positive portrayals in media inspires curiosity, enhances ideas of what a career in IT could look like, and encourages young women to explore this field in school. Fiction, non-fiction, and biographical texts can highlight careers and social impacts while debunking myths, stigmas, and misconceptions about females in IT. The STEM librarian and Education librarian teamed up to change the library's outdated collection to better represent women of all backgrounds …

#Textbookbroke: What's The Most You've Spent On Textbooks In One Semester?, Scholarly Communications
Open Access Week at Gettysburg College
Throughout Open Access Week 2017, a large graph hung on the main floor of Musselman Library where students shared how much they spent on textbooks in a semester. Under the title of "#textbookbroke," this crowdsourced data was displayed to the campus community as it was gathered over the course of the week.

Working And Negotiating With Publishers: The Devil's In The Details, Johnson Center For Creative Teaching And Learning, Scholarly Communications
Open Access Week at Gettysburg College
Several people have expressed interest in meeting to talk about what’s involved in dealing with publishers, what kind of questions should one ask, and what aspects of a contract are especially important to pay attention to. Join Julie Hendon, Scholarly Communications Librarians Janelle Wertzberger and Chris Barnes, and special guests Dan DeNicola (Philosophy) and Radi Rangelova (Spanish/LACLS) for an informal discussion of these issues based on your concerns or questions. We also welcome questions related to journal publishing or being a contributor to an edited volume. We’re not lawyers or literary agents but we have experience with publishers, especially those …

Planning And Completing A Book Drive For Malawi, Karen R. Mcelfresh, Laura J. Hall, Patricia Repar
Posters and Presentations
In the Spring of 2017, our library conducted a book drive for the Malawi College of Health Sciences in Blantyre, Malawi. The College’s library serves about 700 students, as well as health care professionals from a neighboring hospital. However, the library lacks sufficient resources, with most of their books being outdated or in poor condition, which diminishes health care quality in Malawi.
