Academic Librarian Publishing Productivity: An Analysis Of Skills And Behaviors Leading To Success, Camielle Crampsie, Tina Neville, Deborah B. Henry

USF St. Petersburg Campus Faculty Publications

Scholarly publishing continues to be a prominent expectation for many academic librarians. This survey explores characteristics, behaviors, motivations, institutional supports, and educational opportunities that help library practitioners become successful authors. It also looks at perceived confidence in research skills of both novice and experienced librarians. Many librarians show confidence in research activities related to their overall job assignments (literature searching, writing, and such) but find more sophisticated research skills, such as statistical analysis, more challenging. Findings indicate that having additional graduate research experience beyond the library degree, time-management skills, and collaboration with other researchers may provide useful benefits.

Smith New Neilson Library: Healthier Materials, Dano Weisbord, Matthew Gifford, Amanda Garvey

The New Neilson Library

With so much change happening in the manufacturing industry with the onset of new product transparency and disclosure standards, it can be difficult to know how to get involved in market transformation efforts. Our goal for this session is to share an example of how Smith College tackled this challenge. It will include an overview of the Material Health & Transparency Initiative implemented on the Neilson Library project, and the project's team efforts to use this iconic building as a way to advocate for positive change in the marketplace.

Additional materials include draft presentation in parts and whole.

On Research Path Of Information Awareness Converging On Information Description, Yan-Fei Wang, Yuan-Qing Du Jan 2020

On Research Path Of Information Awareness Converging On Information Description, Yan-Fei Wang, Yuan-Qing Du

Journal of Scientific Information Research

Information awareness is the embodiment of the academic research characteristics for information studies. This paper discusses issues related to the description of the path of information awareness research and the transmission of research results. It points out that the results of information awareness need to be expressed by information description. The behavior of information awareness and information description is intertwined, and their process is blended. To analyze the principles, methods and abilities of information description is not only a requirement for doing well in information awareness, but also an indispensable feature of the exploration for information studies.

Constructing The Corpus Of Method In The Information Science Domain, Cheng-Zhi Zhang, Yu-Zhuo Wang, Ru-Ping Wang

Journal of Scientific Information Research

A large number of method entities are mentioned by academic papers in the field of Information Science.Identifying and analyzing the method entities can help researchers make a comprehension of the discipline and find the appropriate method for their own research. The methods corpus with high quality is the foundation of extracting method entities from academic articles. This article proposes an annotation framework of method entity and carries out the construction of methods corpora.Specifically,we first construct the structured full-text corpus of academic articles of Information Science;after that,we identify the method sentences and method entities to obtain the methods corpora by manual annotation. This research …

Research On Evaluation Of Government Information Resources Allocation Based On Ahp-Bp Neural Network, Tai-Tian Mao, Shi-Yu Wang Jan 2020

Research On Evaluation Of Government Information Resources Allocation Based On Ahp-Bp Neural Network, Tai-Tian Mao, Shi-Yu Wang

Journal of Scientific Information Research

[Purpose/significance]From the aspects of information equipment investment, information technology level, information personnel quality and information utilization efficiency, the evaluation of government information resource allocation is studied.Aiming at the characteristics of AHP and BP neural network evaluation methods,an evaluation model based on AHP-BP neural network is proposed.[Method/process] Firstly, the comprehensive weight of the evaluation index system is calculated by AHP.According to the weight, the main factors are selected by the important index screening method. Secondly, the BP neural network model is constructed, and the main factor index data is selected as the sample and input into the neural network model. It is trained and tested. Finally, the evaluation results of BP …
