Mind Of ‘Change’-Thinking: Exploring Henri Bergson, Time, Antifragility, And Life-Long Learning In Libraries, Jesse A. Lambertson

Explores change in libraries from the point-of-view of a lifelong learner situated in space/time. Change itself occurs over time as debated in physics from Einstein until recently with Barbour and Smolin. Bergson’s ‘dureé’ performs work in understanding time as well as frames a context to understand time as change-of-state. Uses ‘the mind’ in place of the change scenario itself in order to promote a view by which a mind can self-critique and engage change. The present study aims at finding the collaborative authorship pattern in top two leading Indian LIS journals during the year 2014-2018. The study focuses on the collaborative pattern under different parameters like year-wise distribution of paper, authorship pattern during the year, degree of collaboration, collaborative index, author’s productivity in terms of productivity per author and highly cited papers of the journals during the period of study. All the studies will be helpful for further development.

This study examined the use of WhatsApp Messenger among students. It studied the reasons and the time spend by students on using WhatsApp. The research further explores that what features of WhatsApp is frequently used by students and the challenges they are facing. The survey method is used and the questionnaire was distributed among 53 students of Library Information Science Department, University of Karachi. It is found that 51 students are users of WhatsApp and 03 are non-users. The results showed that students use WhatsApp consistently in their communication and very supportive in academics. Unbundling Practice: The Unbundling Of Big Deal Journal Packages As An Information Practice, Samuel Cassady, Catherine Anne Johnson, Asen O. Ivanov

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to introduce a theoretical framework and approach for studying the evaluation and decision-making practices through which academic librarians attempt to reduce the cost of electronic journal subscriptions – an organizational practice known as the unbundling of big deal journal packages.

Design/methodology/approach

The article presents a literature-based conceptual analysis of several fields to delineate the elements of the practice of unbundling of big deal journal packages. Beyond analysing the prior literature, the discussion is supported by empirical findings from a pilot study on the topic conducted by two of the article's authors.

This study focused on information dissemination mechanisms for sustainable livelihoods of rural dwellers in Bayelsa State. The purpose of the study was amongst other to examine the level of adequacy of the information dissemination mechanisms for rural dwellers. Four research questions and a formulated hypothesis guided the study. The study employed Focus Group Discussion (FDG) method for data gathering. The population for the study were rural dwellers. The purpose of this study was to explore the utilization of e-reference services by the students with disabilities in federal universities in the South East, Nigeria. A survey method using interview style data collection method was deemed appropriate than administering a questionnaire. The interview was done with the help of our colleagues in the studied universities. All of the disabled student users were requested to participate in the study. Undergraduate Student Success And Library Use: A Multimethod Approach, Jennifer Mayer, Rachel Dineen, Angela Rockwell, Jayne Blodgett

How libraries affect student success has become an increasingly important question to many academic librarians. To investigate this phenomenon, we explored student success via two approaches in this multimethod study: 1) through individual student interviews to capture the student voice; and 2) through hierarchical linear and logistic modeling of institutional data to capture the institutional perspective. Through the qualitative component, students articulated how they define success and how the library contributes to their success, especially in terms of providing a sense of belonging and facilitating the work of a community of scholars. The main focus of the present research study reports on the information services, status of library building, sections and infrastructure facilities in selected Government Degree Colleges Libraries of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, India. Out of the 15 libraries studied, 10 do not have a separate building for library and they are housed either in administrative or part of class rooms. Executive Summary

The Ithaka S+R Library Survey 2019 examines strategy and leadership issues from the perspective of academic library deans and directors. This project aims to provide academic librarians and higher education leaders with information about chief librarians’ visions and the opportunities and challenges they face in leading their organizations. In fall 2019, we invited library deans and directors at not-for-profit four-year academic institutions across the United States to complete the survey, and we received 662 responses for a response rate of 46 percent. This document provides background information to the Finding Aid to the Cunningham Collection. Dr Kenneth Stewart Cunningham (1890 – 1976) was a leading Australian educationalist and educational researcher who was instrumental in the creation and development of the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). After his death in 1976, Dr Cunningham’s daughter, Lesley Cunningham, became the custodian of her father’s personal papers. Much of this material was donated to the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) by Lesley Cunningham a few years before her death.

This study investigates how co-curricular programming in universities can demonstrate and communicate impact in new ways. The Association of College and Research Libraries report Academic Library Impact: Improving Practice and Essential Areas to Research provides a framework to better understand how co-curricular programming facilitates the following: aligning assessment with an institution’s mission; enhancing teaching and learning; and communicating contributions. This article describes a model that other libraries may find useful as they plan and communicate their co-curricular programs to support the mission, vision, and strategic plan of their libraries and their institutions.

By reviewing some basic concepts behind planning a digital exhibition, and exploring key considerations when selecting technology and tools, participants will make progress towards outlining a plan of action for creating their own exhibition.
