Onöndowa’ga:’Gawenoh[1]to the Onöndowa’ga:’, like all Indigenous people, is a form of intangible history, history that is interconnected with who they are and where they come from. The history of who the Onöndowa’ga:’ were and still are, as well as what their language means to their culture, is the groundwork for understanding how devastating US policies became for them. While many areas of culture were impacted by those policies, the largest target was on Indigenous languages. It …

This research illustrates the impact museums have on social, political, and educational systems through the exploration of the eugenics movement in American museums. Museum professionals promoted racial hierarchies and eugenic ideologies at World’s Fairs through the exploitation of “exotic” peoples and contests designed to judge and categorize racial differences based on an individual’s physical and mental characteristics.

Following World’s Fairs, museums began displaying eugenic themed exhibits. Prominent museum professionals and government officials of the early twentieth century used their position of authority to promote the eugenics movement in National and regional American museums through educational exhibits using approachable science-based exhibit …

Poetry, Sort Of: My Experience Using Library Of Congress Subject Headings And The Supplemental List Of Seventh-Day Adventist Subject Headings, Daniel J. Drazen

Journal of Adventist Libraries and Archives

The Library of Congress Subject Headings, for all its seeming comprehension, has not always been up to the task of covering Seventh-day Adventist subject matter better than the Supplementary List of Subject Headings published by the Loma Linda University Libraries as used by the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index. More important, there has been, and continues to be, a need to coin new terms as they are needed. To rely primarily on one source for assigning index terms, however comprehensive it might seem generally, is too inflexible a strategy to be realistic. Relying on both the LCSH and the …

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

As concern over hate speech grows into a global issue (Haraszti 2012), a recurring question confronting every democratic society is how it should restrict discriminatory speech without infringing upon the universally accepted principle of free speech. This, however, has changed dramatically in the last few years. The incidence of hate speech targeting ethnic Koreans exploded around 2012, which …
