This paper examines how discursive power shapes LGBTQ+ community health information practices. Informed by analysis of 10 information world maps drawn by SC LGBTQ+ community leaders, our findings indicate that while community can be a valuable construct to reject mainstream discourses of regulation and correction, it inevitably is fraught and not representative of all LGBTQ+ individuals. Findings can inform strategies for community leaders to facilitate more equitable information flow among members by identifying key structural elements impeding this flow at the community level.

Faculty Publications - George Fox University Library
The environment in which we acquire electronic resources is drastically changed, but our mandate to meet the informational needs of our students and faculty remains. We approach vendors from a point of need, with strained budgets, additional institutional requirements for purchasing, and growing information needs. Negotiating the parameters of a renewal or a new acquisition requires content knowledge, interpersonal skills, time, strategy, and integrity. In this session, you will learn some practical strategies for obtaining both sustainable pricing, and flexible license agreements for your library through intentional stewardship of finances, and the relationship between you and the vendor. This blog post is written by Humanities Librarian, John Venecek.
The idea of the library as a site of social justice is a long-standing interest of mine. I’ve explored this issue by developing exhibits, programming, and other events designed to shed light on social justice issues. As a subject librarian, I seek to build diverse and inclusive collections in the humanities including art, literature, Africana, and Latin American studies. I advocate for increasing the equity of and access to scholarship and I’m an active promoter of Open Education Resources (OERs) …

Nigerian institutions and society at large are shroud in deep, prevailing and wide spread ignorance of special libraries’ importance. As a result these libraries are underutilized hence the slow and little national development being witnessed. Advocacy and lobbying are therefore identified as necessary instruments for public relations in dispelling this deep rooted, prevailing and widespread ignorance that has prevented Nigerian special libraries from being optimally utilized for national development. In this light, the paper takes a look at the concept of special libraries, public relations and more specifically advocacy and lobbying and proceeds to examine the need to use advocacy …

Walking Away From The "Big Deal": Where We Are One Year After Crossing That Bridge, Susan Arnold
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Background:
Budgetary constraints at West Virginia University (WVU) in combination with impending expiration/renewal of “big deal” contracts resulted in the unbundling of three major journal packages between 2017-2019: Wiley, Elsevier Science Direct, and Springer. Unbundling these packages saved the library system a total of $1,441,450. This poster will describe longer-term results of these decisions and how we have continued to adapt to improve access to journals for our research community.
Methods:
Since the unbundling, the WVU Libraries’ Collections Advisory Committee has closely monitored ILL usage and costs for canceled titles, as well as faculty complaints and requests. An interactive session …

The Importance of Open Access in Research, Classroom & Society
Perhaps in no other year has the importance of freely open and accessible information been more evident than in 2020. The mid-March outbreaks of COVID-19 prompted stay-at-home orders and quarantines throughout the nation, and Americans were sequestered to their homes for a quarantine that some have yet to escape. When universities, libraries, businesses and laboratories across the country closed their doors, the availability of Open Access documents and data helped us maintain some semblance of our daily routine, and a little of our sanity.
As we’ll explore in this blog …
