Unpacking Lateral Reading Through Practice And Reflection: Metacognitive Strategies Of Critical Source Evaluation, Andrea Baer, Daniel G. Kipnis

Increasingly librarians are moving away from checklist approaches like CRAAP and advocating for “lateral reading” as a way to quickly evaluate the credibility of online sources. Essentially “lateral reading” is spending little time on a website and more time reading what other sources say about the website in order to quickly evaluate its credibility. While seemingly simple, lateral reading strategies are not always as straightforward as they first appear. Participants will practice lateral reading and consider ways to encourage students to bring metacognitive and critical thinking skills to using lateral reading for source evaluation.

This study aims to systematically explore and cluster by mapping and visualizing the cash waqf research literature to serve basis for future research. A system mapping research (SMS) was employed with bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer based on Web of Science data from 1979 to April 2021. This study visualized patterns of the co-occurrence of keywords, co-citation relationships, and citations of documents. We show the literature's influential aspects, such as the number of publications per year, countries, institutions, journals, authors, and topics. Unprocessed collections are a barrier to access that many manuscript repositories face. Our goal is to provide at least basic access to collections that have been hidden for decades. Acknowledging that our current workflow might take as long as ten years to catch up on our backlog of unprocessed collections, BYU's Harold B. Lee Library is rethinking workflows to re-emphasize user needs as a top priority. In 2017, the ISBN online service launched a single account, or access, for which each publisher could register. This paper discusses the syntactic function of the word jeongmal (정말) analyzed through part of speech (품사). In the Korean language, a word can be classified into more than one parts of speech, which is called pumsa tongyong (품사통용) or conversion. An example of pumsa tongyong is the word jeongmal, which can function as an adverb, noun, and interjection. This research shows that such classification makes the word jeongmal has different functions in a syntactic unit, which are main component (predicate), attributive component (adverb), and independent component. In May 2019, the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana was awarded a $525,000 grant from Lilly Endowment to improve student success and retention by supporting the use of open course materials across the 24 private institutional members. Since then, the PALSave administration team has reached over 100 faculty members across Indiana, created an adoption pilot program, and received over 40 faculty reviews for the Open Textbook Library. Now, PALSave is developing a publishing program, with full funding for five textbook creations over five years.
