Responding to the epidemic of the dying art of conversation (Asha, 2014; Barnwell, 2014 April), this activity constructs a space in which students tap into social lubricants as a conversational, artistic tool to increase conversational skills. Inspired by Monahan & Lannutti’s (2000) social lubricant work, this study views social lubricants— any object or action that facilitates social interaction, such as a dog or a compliment— as a vital resource that merits pedagogical attention. Visual rhetoric has been an area of growing interest for those within the communication field, and this study aims to add to that body of work. One area within the study of visual rhetoric is the everyday, mundane images produced by nation-states, and more narrowly, the images on a nation’s currency. Traditionally, scholars who study images on currency have seen them through the lens of state-as-pedagogue—in other words, that the state is using that “sacred space” to teach their citizenry. Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) and Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) both have many years of experience working with Seattle/King County's immigrant communities. ReWA and CISC participate in an initiative to support family, friend and neighbor caregivers and promote the value of kith and kin care. They have learned valuable lessons about culturally respectful, empowering, and meaningful support and communication with caregivers. This paper highlights the nine most important factors they have found for creating a culturally inclusive support program for family, friend and neighbor caregivers.

This paper presents a working theory of conflict transformation informed by Buddhist teachings. It argues that a Buddhist approach to conflict transformation consists of an integrated process of self-reflection on the roots and transformation of suffering (dukkha), on the one hand, and active relationship-building between parties, on the other. Pemimpin minoritas menggunakan strategi khas selama kampanye politik. Alih-alih menggunakan pendekatan rasional, pemimpin minoritas cenderung menggunakan pendekatan irasional. Kami melakukan analisis isi dari tulisan yang dipublikasikan di fanpage Facebook pemimpin minoritas selama 30 hari kampanye gubernur. For instance, Indonesian PSB, which is represented by RRI (Radio of the Republicof Indonesia) and TVRI (Television of the Republic of Indonesia), remains difficult to realize. The arrival of universal ideas to establish PSB since two decades ago in the country lacks public engagement. Fokus penelitian ini melakukan analisis struktur jaringan komunikasi dalam gerakan sosial lingkungan pada komunitas adat Samin di Pati Jawa Tengah, khususnya analisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi sentralitas jaringan komunikasi dan kontribusinya untuk mendorong partisipasi masyarakat dalam suatu gerakan sosial lingkungan. Increased demand for global citizenry has led scholars and educators alike to seek ways to improve intercultural communication competence (ICC). Research has focused on the theoretical underpinnings of ICC and how to implement these theoretical factors into a practical educational model. Yet, there remains a gap in the literature regarding the implementation of ICC education in the ever-increasingly popular online context. This quasi-experimental study provides a look at how online expatriate candidate training might influence ICC. Results indicate that online expatriate candidate training provides an effective model for organizational practitioners with limited time and resources.

This essay examines The Life of Franklin D. Roosevelt, a comic book distributed internationally by the Office of War Information (OWI) in late 1942, as a creative form of international propaganda. Drawing from existing research in comic scholarship, narrative theory, and visual inquiry, this case study suggests that OWI’s booklet represented a fusion of verbal and visual appeals, which together worked to produce a potent depiction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s character traits and exceptionality. The analysis concludes that this depiction ultimately presented the president as the protagonist of a romantic quest narrative, one that actively invited foreign readers to …

Specifically, through observation, participation, and interview, basic ethnographic methods, students immersed themselves in a culture that is different from their own, and try to understand that culture.
