According to ALA’s 2017 demographic study, the profession is nearly completely White while society consists of a variety of cultures and communities. The lack of representation is a matter of exposure, strategic and diverse recruitment, and retention of professionals of color as well as those belonging to marginalized communities. Recruitment and retention are key, but we must recognize that retention is successful when focused on a person's development through mentoring, coaching, and other targeted measures like residency programs. This paper discusses the benefits of residency and fellowship programs as a retention tool when implemented with intention and authenticity.

Google Sge: A New Way To Search, Teach, And Resist, Tessa Withorn
Faculty Scholarship
In May 2023, amidst the fanfare and outcries over ChatGPT, Google quietly rolled out early access to new features in Search Labs, a user-based experimental testing ground for Search Generative Experience (SGE). Google pitches SGE as a new way of searching that uses generative artificial intelligence (AI) to “understand a topic faster, uncover new viewpoints and insights, and get things done more easily,” but later adds that it also helps make “complex purchase decisions faster and much easier.”2 Interested users can simply tap the Labs icon in Google Chrome or a Google search on an Android device to sign up. …

Gray Literature In The Institutional Repository: Partnership Between The University Of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries And Two Textile Societies, Sue Ann Gardner, Paul Royster
UNL Libraries: Faculty Publications
Gray literature (GL) often contains valuable, unique knowledge but is sometimes difficult to source, collect, and preserve. Institutional repositories can serve as excellent platforms for such material due to their open accessibility for anyone with an internet connection. This chapter includes a brief discussion about gray literature as a material type in libraries generally and covers the partnership of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries with the Textile Society of America and the Centre for Textile Research that has resulted in the publishing of the groups’ conference papers. Together, as of mid-2022, these materials have been full-text downloaded nearly 1,500,000 times …

The Capacity Building Programmes: A Way Of Repositioning Public Library Staff For Effective Library Services, Ngozi Immaculata Ike Cln
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The emergence of information and communication technologies has transformed the landscape of public libraries, necessitating a well-trained and motivated library workforce to handle the challenges of the information explosion. Public libraries, as social service organizations, cater to a diverse audience and require improved working conditions, environmental comfort, and service delivery consciousness among their staff. Capacity building, defined as the development and reinforcement of skills, abilities, and resources, plays a crucial role in empowering library professionals to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing information environment. This paper discusses the concept of capacity building and its significance in public libraries, with …

Archives have a very important role as a source of information for an organization. This study aims to explain the management of inactive dynamic archives at the Archives Unit of the Ministry of CX in terms of procedures, human resources and also facilities and infrastructure as a form …

Tinjauan Literatur Sistematis Terhadap Penerapan Sistem Klasifikasi Khusus Di Perpustakaan, Euis Sri Nurhayati Mrs, Nina Mayesti Dr.
Jurnal Ilmu Informasi, Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan
The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) is a widely implemented classification system in most libraries. However, its usage has declined over the past four decades, and libraries are advised to undergo reclassification. Conversely, it is recognized that the implementation of specialized classification systems significantly impacts information retrieval. Therefore, the aim of this study is to elucidate the concept and methodology behind the integration of bespoke categorization frameworks within diverse libraries across Indonesia over the past decade. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Context (PICOC) framework to analyze ideas, schemes, processes, and challenges …

Asesmen Transformasi Digital Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Desy Novita Sari, Luki Wijayanti
Jurnal Ilmu Informasi, Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan
Digital transformation assessment has not received full attention and is still rarely carried out by art galleries/museums in Indonesia. Digital transformation research on library and information science (LIS) that covers GLAM's concept focuses more on libraries, archives, and museums, while art galleries are scarce, especially in Indonesia. This study aims to conduct a digital transformation assessment of art galleries, especially the National Gallery of Indonesia (Galnas). The research uses a quantitative method by applying a digital transformation framework questionnaire that had tested at 400 cultural institutions in Italy (including art galleries). This research measures the Digital Readiness Index (DRI) on …

Each of these approaches was developed in different periods and places, such as the archive lifecycle in the United States, the record continuum model in Australia, and the total archive concept in Canada. This article also investigates the differences and possible relationships among these three approaches as alternatives to complement the widely …
