Drunk driving remains a significant public safety challenge, demanding innovative alternatives to conventional methods such as field sobriety tests and breathalysers. Estimating a driver's level of intoxication through facial cues is particularly challenging due to the subtle and person-specific nature of alcohol-induced behaviours. In this paper, we present BiFuseNet, a 3D spatio-temporal multi-modal network designed to classify alcohol impairment levels into three categories: sober, moderate, and severe. Unlike prior approaches that rely on either uni-modal RGB video or hand-crafted facial features, our method exploits complementary physiological cues from RGB and infrared (IR) facial videos. We introduce a Bi-directional Hierarchical Fusion …

The Challenge Of Achieving Attributability In Multilingual Table-To-Text Generation With Question-Answer Blueprints, Aden Haussmann
The Challenge Of Achieving Attributability In Multilingual Table-To-Text Generation With Question-Answer Blueprints, Aden Haussmann
International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities
Generating faithful text descriptions from data tables is a significant challenge in Natural Language Processing (NLP), especially for the world’s many low-resource languages. This paper investigates whether Question-Answer (QA) blueprints—an intermediate planning step where a model first asks and answers questions about the data—can improve the factual accuracy of multilingual table-to-text generation. This novel approach is tested on the TaTA dataset, which includes several African languages, by finetuning models with and without these blueprints.
The results show a key distinction: while the QA blueprint method improves performance for English-only models, these gains disappear in the multilingual setting. This paper’s analysis …

Artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly and persistently become a daily presence in our lives, and its omnipresence has eclipsed the speed with which scholars can fully assess its efficacy and pitfalls. AI’s ubiquity and the lack of a clear understanding of its implications for humanity has spurred scholars across disciplines to action, and scholars in the field of Human Resource Management (HR) have certainly joined the fray. As scholars with a variety of experience and scholarship across disciplines, we believe that the burgeoning conversation in the HR literature would significantly benefit from a greater presence of interdisciplinary knowledge.

The Pastor As Romantic Author: Ai, Preaching, And The Unacknowledged Inheritance Of Authenticity, Daniel Plate, James Hutson
Faculty Scholarship
This article interrogates contemporary reactions to sermons produced with generative technologies through a historical–conceptual lens, arguing that widespread judgments of such outputs as “soulless,” “generic,” or lacking a “beating heart” are best explained by an unacknowledged inheritance from nineteenth-century Romantic expressivism. Rather than treating resistance to machine authorship as a theological verdict on computational incapacity, the study reconstructs how Romanticism centered authorship in sincere self-expression and solitary genius, displacing earlier heraldic expectations that prized fidelity to a received message. Methodologically, the analysis combines intellectual history with discourse analysis of global Christian experiments in synthetic composition (2020–2025), denominational guidance, and media …

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs), particularly those tailored for programming tasks—referred to as code LLMs—has created novel opportunities to enhance developer productivity. These advanced models automate routine and repetitive coding tasks, such as code generation and debugging, and enable faster prototyping and more efficient problem-solving. Despite these remarkable advantages, the current generation of code LLMs exhibits notable limitations that impact their practical effectiveness in real-world software engineering scenarios. These models frequently produce code that is inefficient or suboptimal in runtime performance, demonstrate opaque reasoning processes, and struggle to adapt effectively to diverse developer contexts and specific requirements. Moreover, …

Hlcg: A Hierarchical Lane-Changing Gaming Decision Model For Heterogeneous Traffic Flow On Two-Lane Highways, Tianyi Wang, Chong He, Hao Li, Yixuan Li, Yiming Xu, Yangyang Wang, Junfeng Jiao
Research Collection College of Integrative Studies
Discretionary lane-changing behavior is one of the most common highway operations, which seriously affects traffic efficiency and safety. Nowadays, connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) are advancing rapidly, though not yet fully widespread. As a result, a mixed traffic environment with traditional human-driven vehicles (HDVs) and CAVs will persist for the foreseeable future. To achieve effective automatic lane-changing maneuvers, it’s necessary to propose a lane-changing decision model for heterogeneous traffic flow on two-lane highways. This paper firstly extends longitudinal car-following models based on the intelligent driver model and lateral lane-changing models using quintic polynomial curves to accommodate heterogeneous traffic flow, and …

Juxtaposing Approaches To Risk-Based Ai Governance In Different ‘Rights’ Contexts: A Comparative Analysis Between Singapore And The Eu, Jane Loo, Mark Findlay
Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law
Comparative analysis of European and certain Asian approaches to governance often degenerates into simplistic dichotomies based on universal human rights assumptions. This chapter rejects such dualities, ill-informed by theory and historical reflection. The emerging argument is founded on a historical realist approach to theorising difference. Assisted by Polanyi’s double movement, the detailed substantive comparison is preceded by considerations of how recent trends in governing AI have uniformly adopted a countermovement against the dis-embedding of data and technology from the social leading to a risk/responsibility paradigm. From here, a more nuanced reflection of AI governance approaches in the EU and Singapore …

Automated Program Repair (APR) aims to automatically generate patches for rectifying software bugs. Recentstrides in Large Language Models (LLM), such as ChatGPT, have yielded encouraging outcomes in APR,especially within the conversation-driven APR framework. Nevertheless, the efficacy of conversation-drivenAPR is contingent on the quality of the feedback information. In this article, we propose ContrastRepair, anovel conversation-based APR approach that augments conversation-driven APR by providing LLMs withcontrastive test pairs. A test pair consists of a failing test and a passing test, which offer contrastive feedback tothe LLM. Our key insight is to minimize the difference between the generated passing test and the …

Polynomial quantified entailments with existentially and universally quantified variables arise in many problems of verification and program analysis. We present PolyQEnt which is a tool for solving polynomial quantified entailments in which variables on both sides of the implication are real valued or unbounded integers. Our tool provides a unified framework for polynomial quantified entailment problems that arise in several papers in the literature. Our experimental evaluation over a wide range of benchmarks shows the applicability of the tool as well as its benefits as opposed to simply using existing SMT solvers to solve such constraints.

Website owner identification aims to recognize the organization or individual who owns a given website that is served on the web. It is a crucial step for cyberspace surveying and mapping, playing a significant role in cyberspace administration and governance. Existing widely employed solutions for website owner identification mainly fall into two paradigms: (1) querying the public information databases such as WHOIS, which store the Internet resource’s registered users or assignees; and (2) directly extracting the organization or individual name of the website owner from the webpage using the technique of named entity recognition. However, the former is less reliable …

Chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning greatly improves the interpretability and problem-solving abilities of multimodal large language models (MLLMs). However, existing ap proaches focus on text CoT, limiting their ability to lever age visual cues. Visual CoT remains underexplored, and the only work [35] is based on supervised fine-tuning that relies on extensive labeled bounding-box data and is hard to generalize to unseen cases. In this paper, we introduce Unsupervised Visual CoT (UV-CoT), a novel framework for image-level CoT reasoning via preference optimization. UV-CoTperforms preference comparisons between model generated bounding boxes (one is preferred and the other is dis-preferred), eliminating the need for …
