Entrepreneurs in emerging economies (EEs) need to expand to survive in a climate of intense competition. Additionally, it must be innovative, imaginative, and open to absorbing new business techniques. Prior studies proved that Entrepreneur’s success hinges on its capacity to deliver innovative items through employing cutting-edge technologies more quickly than its rivals. In recent decades, digitization—the widespread use of connected digital services by governments, businesses, and consumers—has emerged as a major economic engine that spurs expansion and makes it easier to create jobs. For instance, the next major technological shift is thought to be Industry 5.0 (Ind 5.0). In contrast …
Completeness Of Nominal Props, Samuel Balco, Alexander Kurz
Completeness Of Nominal Props, Samuel Balco, Alexander Kurz
Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
We introduce nominal string diagrams as string diagrams internal in the category of nominal sets. This leads us to define nominal PROPs and nominal monoidal theories. We show that the categories of ordinary PROPs and nominal PROPs are equivalent. This equivalence is then extended to symmetric monoidal theories and nominal monoidal theories, which allows us to transfer completeness results between ordinary and nominal calculi for string diagrams.

Data Science Transfer Pathways From Associate's To Bachelor's Programs, Benjamin S. Baumer, Nicholas J. Horton
Statistical and Data Sciences: Faculty Publications
A substantial fraction of students who complete their college education at a public university in the United States begin their journey at one of the 935 public 2-year colleges. While the number of 4-year colleges offering bachelor’s degrees in data science continues to increase, data science instruction at many 2-year colleges lags behind. A major impediment is the relative paucity of introductory data science courses that serve multiple student audiences and can easily transfer. In addition, the lack of predefined transfer pathways (or articulation agreements) for data science creates a growing disconnect that leaves students who want to study data …

Determining The Proportionality Of Ischemic Stroke Risk Factors To Age, Elizabeth Hunter, John D. Kelleher
Determining The Proportionality Of Ischemic Stroke Risk Factors To Age, Elizabeth Hunter, John D. Kelleher
Articles
While age is an important risk factor, there are some disadvantages to including it in a stroke risk model: age can dominate the risk score and lead to over-or under-predictions in some age groups. There is evidence to suggest that some of these disadvantages are due to the non-proportionality of other risk factors with age, eg, risk factors contribute differently to stroke risk based on an individual’s age. In this paper, we present a framework to test if risk factors are proportional with age. We then apply the framework to a set of risk factors using Framingham heart study data …
Reducing Tracheal Complications In Endotracheal Intubation Patients Using Automated Cuff Pressure Modulation, Shrihan G. Babu
Reducing Tracheal Complications In Endotracheal Intubation Patients Using Automated Cuff Pressure Modulation, Shrihan G. Babu
Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science
Endotracheal tube intubation is the third most frequent procedure, performed approximately 13-20 million times yearly in the United States (Mosier et al., 2020). Despite the regularity of the procedure, intubation-related complications such as tracheal injuries, laryngeal injuries, and ventilator-associated pneumonia are ubiquitous due to improper cuff pressure management methods (Ganti et al., 2018). Current techniques, such as the pilot balloon and minimal leak technique, have proven ineffective and inconsistent in managing pressure. As a result, over 71.6% of intubation patients have abnormally high cuff pressures (Ramírez, 2014). Therefore, the purpose of this research was to design an endotracheal tube with …

Secap Switch—Defeating Topology Poisoning Attacks Using P4 Data Planes, Dylan Smyth, Sandra Scott-Hayward, Victor Cionca, Sean Mcsweeney, Donna O'Shea
Department of Computer Science Publications
Programmable networking is evolving from programmable control plane solutions such as OpenFlow-based software-defined networking (SDN) to programmable data planes such as P4-based SDN. To support the functionality of the SDN, the correct view of the network topology is required. However, multiple attacks aimed at topology poisoning have been demonstrated in SDNs. While several controller-centralised security solutions have been proposed to defeat topology poisoning attacks, some attacks e.g., the Data Plane ARP Cache Poisoning Attack and the relay-type Link Fabrication Attack are difficult to detect using a fully centralised security solution. In this paper, we present the Security-Aware Programmable (SECAP) Switch—a …

Numeracy
The introduction in November 2022 of ChatGPT, a freely available language-based artificial intelligence, has led to concerns among some educators about the feasibility and benefits of teaching basic writing and critical thinking skills to students in the context of easily accessed, AI-based cheating mechanisms. As of now, ChatGPT can write pretty convincing student-level prose, but it is still not very good at answering quantitatively rich questions. Therefore, for the time being, the preceding concerns may not be shared by a large portion of the numeracy education community. However, as Google and WolframAlpha are definitely capable of answering standard and some …

Developing drugs for treating Alzheimer's disease has been extremely challenging and costly due to limited knowledge of underlying mechanisms and therapeutic targets. To address the challenge in AD drug development, we developed a multi-task deep learning pipeline that learns biological interactions and AD risk genes, then utilizes multi-level evidence on drug efficacy to identify repurposable drug candidates. Using the embedding derived from the model, we ranked drug candidates based on evidence from post-treatment transcriptomic patterns, efficacy in preclinical models, population-based treatment effects, and clinical trials. We mechanistically validated the top-ranked candidates in neuronal cells, identifying drug combinations with efficacy in …

Teaching By Practice: Shaping Secure Coding Mentalities Through Cybersecurity Ctfs, Jazmin Collins, Vitaly Ford
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
The use of the Capture the Flag (CTF)-style competitions has grown popular in a variety of environments as a method to improve or reinforce cybersecurity techniques. However, while these competitions have shown promise in student engagement, enjoyment, and the teaching of essential workforce cybersecurity concepts, many of these CTF challenges have largely focused on cybersecurity as a general topic. Further, most in-school CTF challenges are designed with technical institutes in mind, prepping only experienced or upper-level students in cybersecurity studies for real-world challenges. Our paper aims to focus on the setting of a liberal arts institute, emphasizing secure coding as …

A Bidirectional Deep Lstm Machine Learning Method For Flight Delay Modelling And Analysis, Desmond B. Bisandu, Irene Moulitsas
National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)
Flight delays can be prevented by providing a reference point from an accurate prediction model because predicting flight delays is a problem with a specific space. Only a few algorithms consider predicted classes' mutual correlation during flight delay classification or prediction modelling tasks. None of these existing methods works for all scenarios. Therefore, the need to investigate the performance of more models in solving the problem of flight delay is vast and rapidly increasing. This paper presents the development and evaluation of LSTM and BiLSTM models by comparing them for a flight delay prediction. The LSTM does the feature extraction …
