Software Requirements As Executable Code, Karen Eileen Wasielewski Morand
Software Requirements As Executable Code, Karen Eileen Wasielewski Morand
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
This project analyzed the effectiveness of using Story Testing frameworks to create an application directly from user specifications. It did this by taking an example business application with "traditional" specifications and rewriting those specifications in three different Story Testing Frameworks - Cucumber, FitNesse, and JBehave. Analysis of results drew the following conclusions: 1) Story Testing can help prove a project's completeness, 2) Specifications are still too technical, 3) Implementation is not overly complex, and 4) Story Testing is worth it. It proposed future research around evaluating natural languages and seeking more user-friendly ways of writing specifications in a natural language.
Cross-Layer Schemes For Reducing Delay In Multihop Wireless Networks, Maggie Xiaoyan Cheng, Quanmin Ye, Lin Cai
Cross-Layer Schemes For Reducing Delay In Multihop Wireless Networks, Maggie Xiaoyan Cheng, Quanmin Ye, Lin Cai
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
End-to-end delay is an important QoS metric in multihop wireless networks such as sensor networks and mesh networks. End-to-end delay is defined as the total time it takes for a single packet to reach the destination. It is a result of many factors including the length of the route and the interference level along the path. in this paper we address how to minimize end-to-end delay jointly through optimizing routing and link layer scheduling. We present two cross-layer schemes, a loosely coupled cross-layer scheme and a tightly coupled cross-layer scheme. in the loosely coupled cross-layer scheme, routing is computed first …

Data Comm—a text-based controller-pilot communication system—is critical to many NextGen improvements. With Data Comm, communication becomes a visual task. Interacting with a visual Data Comm display may yield an unsafe increase in head-down time, particularly for single-pilot operations. This study examined the feasibility of supplementing Data Comm with synthetic speech. To this end, thirty-two pilots flew two experimental scenarios in a Cessna 172 Flight Training Device. In one scenario, ATC communication was with a text-only Data Comm display, in the other, communication was with a text Data Comm display with synthetic speech that read aloud each message (i.e., text+speech). Pilots …

Exploitation Of Rf-Dna For Device Classification And Verification Using Grlvqi Processing, Donald R. Reising
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation introduces a GRLVQI classifier into an RF-DNA fingerprinting process and demonstrates applicability for device classification and ID verification. Unlike MDA/ML processing, GRLVQI provides a measure of feature relevance that enables Dimensional Reduction Analysis (DRA) to enhance the experimental-to-operational transition potential of RF-DNA fingerprinting. Using 2D Gabor Transform RF-DNA fingerprints extracted from experimentally collected OFDM-based 802.16 WiMAX and 802.11 WiFi device emissions, average GRLVQI classification accuracy of %C greater than or equal to 90% is achieved using full and reduced dimensional feature sets at SNR greater than or equal to 10.0 dB and SNR greater than or equal to …
Investigating Volatility Trends Of Silver Through An Analysis Of Stock Options Prices, Dylan Houston
Investigating Volatility Trends Of Silver Through An Analysis Of Stock Options Prices, Dylan Houston
Honors Theses
Volatility is a statistical measure that describes the amount of fluctuation in prices for a given investment; generally, the higher the volatility for an investment, the riskier it is perceived to be. Traders study volatility history so that they can make informed decisions on how to invest capital. The purpose of this article is to analyze implied volatility values, which are derived from the investment's price and are considered the market's estimate of the investment's actual volatility, for silver electronically traded fund (ETF) options in periods of both high and low price movement. In doing so, we desired to see …
Methodology And Automated Metadata Extraction From Multiple Volume Shadow Copies, Henri Michael Van Goethem
Methodology And Automated Metadata Extraction From Multiple Volume Shadow Copies, Henri Michael Van Goethem
Masters Theses, 2010-2019
Modern day digital forensics investigations rely on timelines as a principal method for normalizing and chronologically categorizing artifacts recovered from computer systems. Timelines provide investigators with a chronological representation of digital evidence so they can depict altered and unaltered digital forensics data in-context to drive conclusions about system events and/or user activities. While investigators rely on many system artifacts such as file system time/date stamps, operating system artifacts, program artifacts, logs, and/or registry artifacts as input for deriving chronological representations, using only the available or most recent version of the artifacts may provide a limited picture of historical changes on …
Connotational Subtyping And Runtime Class Mutability In Ruby, Ian S. Dillon
Connotational Subtyping And Runtime Class Mutability In Ruby, Ian S. Dillon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Connotational subtyping is an approach to typing that allows an object's type to change dynamically, following changes to the object's internal state. This allows for a more precise representation of a problem domain with logical objects that have variable behavior. Two approaches to supporting connotational subtyping in the Ruby programming language were implemented: a language-level implementation using pure Ruby and a modification to the Ruby 1.8.7 interpreter. While neither implementation was wholly successful the language level implementation created complications with reflective language features like self and super and, while Ruby 1.8.7 has been obsoleted by Ruby 1.9 (YARV), the results …
Application Of Digital Forensic Science To Electronic Discovery In Civil Litigation, Brian Roux
Application Of Digital Forensic Science To Electronic Discovery In Civil Litigation, Brian Roux
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Following changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in 2006 dealing with the role of Electronically Stored Information, digital forensics is becoming necessary to the discovery process in civil litigation. The development of case law interpreting the rule changes since their enactment defines how digital forensics can be applied to the discovery process, the scope of discovery, and the duties imposed on parties. Herein, pertinent cases are examined to determine what trends exist and how they effect the field. These observations buttress case studies involving discovery failures in large corporate contexts along with insights on the technical reasons those …

Application Of Web Mashup Technology To Oyster Information Services, Christian Chuindja Ngniah
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Web mashup is a lightweight technology used to integrate data from remote sources without direct access to their databases. As a data consumer, a Web mashup application creates new contents by retrieving data through the Web application programming interface (API) provided by the external sources. As a data provider, the service program publishes its Web API and implements the specified functions.
In the project reported by this thesis, we have implemented two Web mashup applications to enhance the Web site oystersentinel.org: the Perkinsus marinus model and the Oil Spill model. Each model overlay geospatial data from a local database …

Breaking Weak 1024-Bit Rsa Keys Using Cuda, Kerry Scharfglass, Darrin Weng, Joseph White, Christopher Lupo
Computer Science and Software Engineering
An exploit involving the greatest common divisor (GCD) of RSA moduli was recently discovered [1]. This paper presents a tool that can efficiently and completely compare a large number of 1024-bit RSA public keys, and identify any keys that are susceptible to this weakness. NVIDIA's graphics processing units (GPU) and the CUDA massively-parallel programming model are powerful tools that can be used to accelerate this tool. Our method using CUDA has a measured performance speedup of 27.5 compared to a sequential CPU implementation, making it a more practical method to compare large sets of keys. A computation for finding GCDs …

Secure Hierarchical Data Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks: Performance Evaluation And Analysis, Vimal Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Madria
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Secure data aggregation in wireless sensor networks has two contrasting objectives, i) Efficiently collecting and aggregating data and ii) Aggregating the data securely. Many schemes do not take into account the possibility of corrupt aggregators and allow the aggregator to decrypt data in hop-by-hop algorithms. on the other hand, using public key cryptography for providing end to end security is not energy efficient. in this paper we present and analyze the performance of the secure hierarchical data aggregation algorithm which uses an efficient public key cryptosystem (elliptic curve cryptography) to achieve end to end security. Unlike many other secure data …

Trust Management Of Encrypted Data Aggregation In A Sensor Network Environment, Nayot Poolsappasit, Michael Busby, Sanjay Kumar Madria
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Efficient power management is vital for increasing the life of sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSN). Thus, techniques such as data aggregation have been widely used in WSN to preserve nodes' energy. Despite its appealing and powerful features, data aggregation processes require a high level of security. Ensuring accuracy with aggregating data can become an issue even due to single bit errors. Hence, many encryption techniques have been proposed to secure the data aggregation process. However, once a wireless sensor is physically compromised, the keys stored on the sensor are exposed, thus rendering the cryptography useless. Moreover, most cryptographic …

Hybrid Solvers For The Boolean Satisfiability Problem: An Exploration, Nicole Nelson
Hybrid Solvers For The Boolean Satisfiability Problem: An Exploration, Nicole Nelson
Theses and Dissertations
The Boolean Satisfiability problem (SAT) is one of the most extensively researched NP-complete problems in Computer Science. This thesis focuses on the design of feasible solvers for this problem. A SAT problem instance is a formula in propositional logic. A SAT solver attempts to find a solution for the formula. Our research focuses on a newer solver paradigm, hybrid solvers, where two solvers are combined in order to gain the benefits from both solvers in the search for a solution. Our hybrid solver, AmbSAT, combines two well-known solvers: the systematic Davis-Putnam-Logemann-Loveland solver (DPLL) and the stochastic WalkSAT solver. AmbSAT's design …

A Guide To Documenting Software Design For Maximum Software Portability For Software Defined Radios, Joseph Snively
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
The use of software defined communications systems is growing incredibly fast. The field of software engineering as a discipline has not adequately addressed the subject of software portability which makes large and costly software development efforts less ready to port to future platforms. By understanding the causes of portability problems, they can either be avoided altogether in development or very well documented so that they are easier to overcome in future efforts. Literature, case studies, and surveys are used to collect opinions and information about large software programs where portability is a desirable characteristic in order to best establish the …

Symbolic Model-Checking Of Stateful Timed Csp Using Bdd And Digitization, Truong Khanh Nguyen, Jun Sun, Yang Liu, Jin Song Dong
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Stateful Timed CSP has been recently proposed to model (and verify) hierarchical real-time systems. It is an expressive modeling language which combines data structure/operations, complicated control flows (modeled using compositional process operators adopted from Timed CSP), and real-time requirements like deadline and within. It has been shown that Stateful Timed CSP is equivalent to closed timed automata with silent transitions, which implies that the timing constraints of Stateful Timed CSP can be captured using explicit tick events, through digitization. In order to tackle the state space explosion problem, we develop a BDD-based symbolic model checking approach to verify Stateful Timed …
Cloud Computing For Environment-Friendly Data Centers, Michael Pawlish, Aparna Varde, Stefan Robila
Cloud Computing For Environment-Friendly Data Centers, Michael Pawlish, Aparna Varde, Stefan Robila
Department of Computer Science Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the carbon footprint and utilization rates in a data center. The long-term goal of this work is to give data center administrators an enhanced perspective of data center operations to allow for more energy efficient operation, to lower the carbon footprint, and to promote green data centers. Previous literature shows that low utilization rates in data centers are due to the forecasting of demand to meet spikes in data center use. This management policy has led to many servers running idle the majority of the time which is a waste of resources. …

I have created a Java program that can manipulate multivariate data by manual rotation and will be comparing my results to the …
Website Adaptive Navigation Effects On User Experiences, James C. Speirs
Website Adaptive Navigation Effects On User Experiences, James C. Speirs
Theses and Dissertations
The information search process within a website can often be frustrating and confusing for website visitors. Navigational structures are often complex and multitiered, hiding links with several layers of navigation that user's might be interested in. Poor navigation causes user frustration. Adaptive navigation can be used to improve the user's navigational experience by flattening the navigational structure and reducing the number of accessible links to only those that the user would be interested in. This examines the effects on a user's navigational experience, of using adaptive navigation as the main navigational structure on a website. This study measured these effects …

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Outlier detection is a well-studied problem in various fields. the unique challenges of wireless sensor networks such as limited bandwidth, memory, energy, and unreliable communication make this problem especially difficult. Sensors can detect outliers for a plethora of reasons and these reasons need to be inferred in real time. Here, we present a new robust communication framework for the unsupervised in network detection of outliers in a wireless sensor network. First, communication is minimized through an ad-hoc collaborative communication scheme which controls sensor behavior to increase overall visibility of individual streaming data sets. Second, an outlier detection algorithm is tailored …

Social networks have formed the basis of many studies into large networks analysis. Whilst much is already known regarding efficient algorithms for large networks analysis, data mining, knowledge diffusion, anomaly detection, viral marketing, to mention. More recent research is focussing on new classes of efficient approximate algorithms that can scale to billion nodes and edges. To this end, this paper presents an extension of an algorithm developed originally to analyse large scale-free autonomic networks called the Global Observer Model. In this paper, the algorithm is studied in the context of monitoring large-scale information networks. Hence, taking into account the size …
A Proposed Formula For Comparing Kill Password Effectiveness In Single Password Rfid Systems, Christopher Bolan
A Proposed Formula For Comparing Kill Password Effectiveness In Single Password Rfid Systems, Christopher Bolan
Australian Information Security Management Conference
The Electronic Product Code standard for RFID systems plays a significant role in worldwide RFID implementations. A feature of the RFID standards has been the RFID Kill command which allows for the "permanent" destruction of an RFID tag through the issuing of a simple command. Whilst the inclusion of this command may be vital for user privacy it also opens up significant avenues for attack. Whilst such attacks may be well documented there has been little to no discussion of the efficacy of the differing mitigation approaches taken. A simple formula to calculate the full timing of such an attack …
