The anti-inflammatory properties of granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (G-MDSCs) promote Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) biofilm persistence. Evidence suggests that G-MDSC activity is shaped not only by S. aureus products but also by intrinsic metabolic programs. This study explores whether G-MDSC activity can be modulated by increasing mitochondrial abundance using a co-culture paradigm with macrophages as a mitochondrial donor. Macrophages transfer mitochondria directly to G-MDSCs via tunneling nanotubes, enhancing G-MDSC respiration, as reflected by increased basal, maximal, and spare respiratory capacity. Augmenting mitochondrial abundance in G-MDSCs enhances T cell-suppressive activity and reduces tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) production. …

Background: Many studies have looked at the relationship between diabetes mellitus and development of endometrial cancer. This study provides an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of the estimated effect of diabetes and the risk of endometrial cancer.

Methods: Some studies were found on databases such as PubMed and Iceberg. The remaining studies were extracted from the initial studies found. Binary data was collected and the raw data was imputed into a Fixed Effects Model.

Results: A total of 25 studies were included in this meta-analysis, generating statistically significant results (p < 0.001, OR 2.05, 95% Cl 1.92-2.19).

We spend approximately one third of our life time sleeping or attempting to sleep. The quality of our sleep is equally, if not more important than the amount of sleep we get. This study assesses the effects that medications, specifically antidepressants, can have on sleep quality in Dominican University of California students. 118 participants completed a Qualtrics survey including questions regarding stress, sleep quality, medication lists, and demographics. This study examines how older adults interpret their experiences with physical and recreational activity in assisted living, and how these interpretations influence how they engage in their everyday social and physical contexts. In the fall of 2025, eleven older adults—nine women and two men—living in an assisted living facility in a coastal city in Southeastern Connecticut participated in in-depth semi-structured interviews. The facility provides both short-term post-acute care and long-term residential care, offering structured opportunities for physical and recreational engagement.

Hepatocyte peroxisomes are required for metabolism of phytol-derived branched-chain fatty acids through the ACOX2-SCPx beta-oxidation pathway. This study tests whether hepatocyte-specific deletion of PEX16 (Pex16^Alb-Cre), which eliminates peroxisome biogenesis, sensitizes the liver to phytol-induced injury. The Pex16^Alb-Cre mice and their normal control Pex16^fl/fl mice were fed the Lieber-DeCarli liquid with or without 0.1 percent phytol for eight weeks. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and liver index were measured. Liver sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and Masson’s trichrome. Osteoporosis and vertebral degeneration are major contributors to musculoskeletal morbidity, yet the molecular mechanisms regulating vertebral bone and intervertebral disc (IVD) homeostasis remain incompletely understood. GPNMB (osteoactivin) has been identified as a regulator of bone remodeling, though its role in spine health is unclear. This study evaluated the effects of GPNMB deficiency on lumbar vertebral bone microarchitecture and IVD integrity in a sex-dependent context.

Purpose. Uveal melanoma (UM) is primarily treated with eye-sparing radiotherapy, leaving limited tumor tissue for molecular analysis. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may offer a minimally invasive alternative for genomic tumor profiling. This pilot study evaluated the feasibility of a multi-marker CTC capture approach in UM patients at diagnosis, during fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (fSRT), and at metastatic progression. Methods. Patients with localized or metastatic UM were prospectively enrolled. Peripheral blood samples were collected at baseline, during fSRT, and on detection of metastases. Background: Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long-term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during critical developmental periods. Methods: Eight children treated for ALL (aged 6–12 years) completed a supervised INT intervention (2 sessions/week for 8 weeks). Introduction: Exercise is a key part of cancer care, yet its integration into routine practice remains limited. This study explored the experiences of people living with and beyond cancer, with an updated, opt-out referral model embedded within a supportive oncology setting, focusing on initial engagement with exercise physiology appointments. Through this model, patients were automatically scheduled for a consultation with an in-house exercise professional during their cancer treatment. Background: Radioiodine whole-body scan (WBS) is routinely performed after radioiodine therapy in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), but its two-dimensional nature limits anatomical localization. The addition of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) improves diagnostic accuracy; however, routine use exposes patients to additional radiation, longer imaging time, and higher costs. Materials and Methods: We conducted a nationwide case–control study using Danish registry data from 2013 to 2021.
