Background: Over 25,000 men undergo inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) placement yearly to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Although various comorbidities are hypothesized risk factors for complications, this remains incompletely understood. Approximately, 10-15 million cases of Cushing Syndrome are annually diagnosed. A subset of cases are caused from medication. This subset is known as iatrogenic Cushing’s syndrome (ICS). ICS affects the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Furthermore, ICS is a disease that can have an indolent presentation where patients are unaware of the disease. Identification and management of ICS is essential in optimizing patient care. This case report focuses on a unique patient scenario that involves ICS.

Addressing the tremendous burden of early-life adversity requires constructive dialogues between scientists and policy makers to improve population health. Whereas dialogues focused on several aspects of early-life adversity have been initiated, discussion of an underrecognized form of adversity that has been observed across multiple contexts and cultures is only now emerging. Here we provide evidence for “why unpredictability?”, including: 1. Evidence that exposures to unpredictability affect child neurodevelopment, with influences that persist into adulthood. 2. Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM), also known as nonpuerperal mastitis or granulomatous lobular mastitis, is a rare, benign, chronic inflammatory breast disease first characterized in 1972. IGM is characterized by sterile noncaseating lobulocentric granulomatous inflammation, usually affecting parous premenopausal women with a history of lactation.

Synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome is an autoinflammatory disease whose acronymic name stands for the symptoms commonly seen in the disease. Atraumatic ball thrower's humerus fracture is an uncommon, and poorly understood injury pattern. The majority of these cases are seen in untrained and younger individuals. A missed diagnosis could severely impact a patient's quality of life, as management is operative in most cases. Our main objective was to compare the characteristics and hospital outcomes of patients with primary and metastatic brain malignancies and to investigate the associated factors related to hospital outcomes.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study of 1628 patients with brain malignancies from 8 community hospitals between 2017 and 2022 who were identified using International Classification of Disease codes. A stepwise logistic regression was used to identify demographics and clinical characteristics associated with in-hospital mortality and home discharge.

AIMS: The extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (EV ICD) has been shown to be safe and effective for patients at risk of sudden cardiac death, but little is known about EV ICD lead removal in humans. This analysis aimed to characterize the EV ICD lead removal experience thus far.

BACKGROUND: Tracheal intubation (TI)-associated cardiac arrest (TI-CA) occurs in 1.7% of pediatric ICU TIs. Our objective was to evaluate resuscitation characteristics and outcomes between cardiac arrest patients with and without TI-CA.

METHODS: Secondary analysis of cardiac arrest patients in both ICU-RESUS trial and ancillary CPR-NOVA study. The primary exposure was TI-CA, defined as cardiac arrest occurred during TI procedure or within 20 min after endotracheal tube placement. The primary outcome was survival to hospital discharge with favorable neurological outcome (Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category score 1-3 or unchanged).

Introduction: The effects of smoking on lung function among post-9/11 Veterans deployed to environments with high levels of ambient particulate matter are incompletely understood.

Materials and methods: We analyzed interim data (04/2018-03/2020) from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program #595, "Service and Health Among Deployed Veterans". Veterans with ≥1 land-based deployments enrolled at 1 of 6 regional Veterans Affairs sites completed questionnaires and spirometry. Multivariable linear regression models assessed associations between cigarette smoking (cumulative, deployment-related and non-deployment-related) with pulmonary function.

Introduction: MRI represents one of the clinical tools at the forefront of research efforts aimed at identifying diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Both volumetric and diffusion MRI findings in mild TBI (mTBI) are mixed, making the findings difficult to interpret. BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have significantly improved outcomes for patients with cancer. However, these therapies are associated with adverse events including de novo immune-related adverse events or flare of pre-exiting autoimmune disorders. Up to 80% of patients with cancer and pre-existing psoriasis (PsO) or psoriatic arthritis (PsA) experience PsO/PsA flare after initiating ICIs. Targeting the interleukin (IL)-17/IL-23 axis is a mainstream of the PsO/PsA treatment. Mutational activation of KRAS occurs commonly in lung carcinogenesis and, with the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of covalent inhibitors of KRASG12C such as sotorasib or adagrasib, KRAS oncoproteins are important pharmacological targets in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, not all KRASG12C-driven NSCLCs respond to these inhibitors, and the emergence of drug resistance in those patients who do respond can be rapid and pleiotropic. Chromosome-containing micronuclei are a hallmark of aggressive cancers. Micronuclei frequently undergo irreversible collapse, exposing their enclosed chromatin to the cytosol. Micronuclear rupture catalyzes chromosomal rearrangements, epigenetic abnormalities, and inflammation, yet mechanisms safeguarding micronuclear integrity are poorly understood. In this study, we found that mitochondria-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) disrupt micronuclei by promoting a noncanonical function of charged multivesicular body protein 7 (CHMP7), a scaffolding protein for the membrane repair complex known as endosomal sorting complex required for transport III (ESCRT-III).
