Racial differences in health care access (HCA) may contribute to disparities in ovarian cancer (OC) survival. We used structural equation models (SEMs) to examine associations between race and HCA domains (affordability, availability, accessibility) in relation to overall and OC-specific mortality. Non-Hispanic (NH)–Black and non-Black (Hispanic, NH-White) women diagnosed with OC in 2008-2015 were identified from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results–Medicare. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to conduct mediation analysis for associations between race and HCA domains with overall and OC-specific mortality. Chemotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment for colorectal cancer (CRC). However, acquired resistance can lead to a decrease in the efficiency of chemotherapy. Here, we show that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play a critical role in acquired resistance to chemotherapy. Treatment with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), oxaliplatin, or SN38 (an active metabolite of irinotecan) increased DKK1 expression and secretion, activation of MEK/ERK, and upregulation of p53 in CAFs. Knockdown of p53 or inhibition of MEK/ERK blocked the increase in DKK1 expression induced by chemotherapeutic agents in CAFs. Fibrosis is an important feature of adipose tissue in obese individuals; nevertheless, roles of obesity-associated extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition in breast cancer progression largely remain elusive. Here, we show that expression of Hsp47, a chaperone protein involving collagen secretion, is induced in adipose tissue from obese humans and mice. Adipocyte-specific Hsp47 deletion (Adi-KO) suppresses the high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and mammary tumor progression, accompanied by a reduction in ECM deposition. Matrisome analyses lead to the identification of asporin as a new target of Hsp47 in adipose tissue. Purpose: Despite high rates of lung disease and lung cancer among women, few studies have focused on adverse lung health risk factors among rural Appalachian women. We aim to describe the prevalence of demographic, behavioral, and economic characteristics among a cohort of rural Appalachian women and ascertain the association between these risk factors and lung function.

This study examines the ability of generative artificial intelligence to produce facial expressions representing basic emotions in a neutral context using black-and-white cartoon imagery. Mentalization, the capacity to recognize and interpret one’s own and others’ mental states, is critical for social interaction and emotional regulation. We explored the emotional validation of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images by assessing the agreement between human interpretations of emotions and those generated by an AI model. Thirty-four participants evaluated images depicting six basic emotions: sadness, anger, happiness, surprise, fear, and disgust. OBJECTIVE: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a common form of drug-resistant epilepsy often treated with surgical interventions, including laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT). However, patient-specific factors influencing LITT outcomes remain unclear. This retrospective study aimed to identify pre-operative resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) patterns associated with seizure freedom following LITT in mesial TLE.

METHODS: We analyzed rs-fMRI data from 28 patients with mesial TLE who underwent LITT, classifying them into seizure-free (SF) and not seizure-free (NSF) groups based on 12-month post-operative outcomes. Cutaneous cytomegalovirus infection is a rare but serious complication in solid organ transplant recipients. We present a 47-year-old male kidney transplant recipient with a chronic, nonhealing right lower extremity ulcer. Initial biopsies revealed septic vasculopathy, leading to treatment with sodium thiosulfate and antibiotics for suspected calciphylaxis. Despite regular wound care, the ulcer continued to worsen. After completing 6 months of cytomegalovirus prophylaxis, surveillance viral levels remained undetectable, but the ulcer progressed considerably. Worsening severity prompted hospitalization, during which cytomegalovirus viremia was detected, and an ulcer biopsy confirmed cytomegalovirus inclusion bodies. The FDA approved Semaglutide (Wegovy™) on August 15, 2025, for adults with MASLD and moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2–F3), making it the second approved therapy after Resmetirom. MASLD affects up to 38% of adults and is now the leading cause of liver disease. In the phase 3 ESSENCE trial, Semaglutide achieved resolution of steatohepatitis without worsening fibrosis in 62.9% versus 34.3% with placebo, with additional benefits in weight loss and glycemic control. While long-term data remain pending and access barriers exist, this approval marks a significant advance in MASLD therapy with meaningful histologic and metabolic improvements.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common inflammatory disorder characterized by greasy scale, itching, and erythema. It commonly affects areas of the skin that have high sebum production or are sebaceous gland-rich, including the scalp, face, sternum, axilla, groin, and other skin folds. Seborrheic dermatitis can present in infants, adolescents, and adults, and is more common in men. Follicular Occlusion Syndromes (FOS) are rare chronic relapsing skin disorders characterized by abnormal follicular hyperkeratinization, plugging, and inflammation. FOS are more commonly discussed as a ‘triad’ or ‘tetrad’ based on the patient’s clinical presentation. The triad includes hidradenitis suppurativa, acne conglobata, and dissecting cellulitis of the scalp. The tetrad in addition to the triad includes a history of pilonidal cysts. Background: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) involves a preoccupation with a nonexistent or insignificant physical defect that causes clinically significant distress and impacts a patient's daily functioning. We present a case of a patient with body dysmorphia that manifested as anxiety about hair loss. Purpose The Fitzpatrick Scale (FS), originally developed to dose photochemotherapy in Caucasian skin, has become widely adopted for skin color categorization. It originally included types I-IV, with types V-VI added later for darker skin. The FS was designed for UV radiation reactivity assessment. Background Sweet Syndrome is an acute, febrile neutrophilic dermatosis that is characterized by painful red lesions, fever, and neutrophilia with histological findings of dermal neutrophilic infiltrate. Neutrophilic Dermatosis of the Dorsal Hands is a localized variant of Sweet Syndrome. Neutrophilic Dermatosis of the Dorsal Hands presents with focused lesions on the dorsal hands, most commonly between the index finger and thumb, typically with fewer systemic manifestations. Introduction: The Fitzpatrick skin scale has long been used as a proxy for skin tone categorization. However, its initial creation was to classify reactivity of white skin to ultraviolet A radiation. A reported one-third of dermatologists conflate the Fitzpatrick skin scale for race and ethnicity. Approximately half of the dermatologists also reported utilizing the Fitzpatrick scale to describe skin color. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic relapsing condition characterized by irritation, redness, inflammation, and itching of the skin. The cause of AD is theorized to be multifactorial, including genetic components, such as mutations in filaggrin, environmental exposures, and immune predisposition. AD often presents in childhood and adolescence, but can appear at any age. AD eruptions arise through various triggers, which commonly include soaps, detergents, fabrics, and cold or hot weather. Terra Firma-Forme Dermatosis (TFFD), also known as Duncan’s dirty dermatosis is a benign, asymptomatic dermatologic condition characterized by well-demarcated brown patches to hyperkeratotic papules or plaques. It most commonly affects the neck, trunk, and face but can appear on other body regions. A key diagnostic feature is that these lesions persist despite routine washing with soap and water but can be removed by forcibly wiping the affected area with 70% isopropyl alcohol, revealing normal underlying skin. Introduction: Utilization of the Fitzpatrick scale to describe skin color does not adequately account for variations in pigmentation that are reflective of skin color characteristics of persons from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Purpose: To reach consensus on Demodex blepharitis (DB) treatment approaches using a modified Delphi process involving 15 ocular surface disease experts.

Methods: The Demodex Expert Panel on Treatment and Eyelid Health (DEPTH) consisted of 15 well-published ocular surface disease experts. Panelists completed two online surveys, a live consensus meeting, and a follow-up survey. The surveys consisted of scaled and multiple-choice questions related to the clinical and patient-reported outcomes of DB and its treatment. Background: Children with repaired conotruncal abnormalities (CTA) are at risk of progressive aortic dilation and deteriorating aortic elasticity even after surgical correction. Strain imaging, using a 2-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE), has been used for arterial stiffness assessment, but pediatric data are still lacking. We investigated the feasibility, reproducibility, and clinical value of 2D-STE derived ascending aorta (AAo) stiffness in children with repaired CTA.

Introduction: Insulin pump therapy is recommended for youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) as it enhances quality of life and improves glycemic management. We led a quality improvement initiative to increase insulin pump use in youth younger than 18 years of age with recently diagnosed T1D (duration < 1 y) from a baseline of 17% to 27% from January 2021 to December 2023. As a balancing measure, we evaluated the diabetes-related ketoacidosis (DKA) rate in the same cohort as nonpump users.

Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) in the setting of newly diagnosed diabetes is common in both adult and pediatric populations, as insulin deficiency promotes lipolysis and impairs triglyceride (TG) clearance. Severe HTG (defined as TG levels above 1000 mg/dL) in pediatric patients with new-onset type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is rare; the true incidence and sequela of this phenomenon have not been well characterized. We present a single-center experience on severe HTG in pediatric patients with new-onset T1D between 2013 and 2022 and summarize the cases previously reported in the literature.
