Enhancing Patient-Centered Efficiency: Reducing Cardiology Clinic No-Shows Using Technology, Pre-Visit Planning & Patient Resources, Pat Shirey

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) affects 48% of U.S. adults, requiring regular cardiology visits to manage risk factors and the early detection of complications (American Heart Association, 2019). No-shows disrupt continuity of care, worsen health outcomes (Choi et al., 2020), and decrease clinic efficiency (Goossens et al., 2022). A North Texas cardiology clinic reported a 31.9% overall no-show rate and a 42.1% no-show rate for new patients, costing $1.3 million annually.

Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to reduce no-show rates through a patient-centered cardiology appointment bundle to improve continuity, patient outcomes, and efficiency.

Abstract

Introduction

Despite the recommendations of the United States Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, HPV immunization lags behind other routine vaccines by up to 31%. Although there are many reasons for the low vaccine rate, provider hesitancy and lack of confidence significantly contribute to suboptimal HPV vaccine uptake.

Objectives

This project aimed to utilize evidence-driven interventions to increase family nurse practitioners' (FNPs) knowledge and confidence in offering the HPV vaccine.

Methods

Participants were given pre- and post-questionnaire surveys. The Wilcoxon Rank Test was used to compare, quantify, and measure the results of the eight-week data collection.

Purpose

A breast cancer diagnosis can impact every aspect of a woman’s life, particularly for women diagnosed before age 45 when they are in the process of establishing stability in their personal and professional lives. This study investigated the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on employment, finances, and personal relationships among young breast cancer survivors.

Methods

We conducted descriptive statistical analysis of survey data from 315 women diagnosed with breast cancer before age 45. Introduction Cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a rare, cutaneous, malignant neoplasm of the resident T cell lymphocytes within the skin. CTCL encompasses a spectrum of morphologically and prognostically distinct entities, the most common of which is mycosis fungoides (MF). The incidence of mycosis fungoides is about 6 cases per million per year in the United States and Europe. MF is notoriously difficult to diagnose clinically. It can masquerade as several common dermatologic conditions and may be treated as such for years until a biopsy reveals the correct diagnosis. Introduction Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorder (PASD) refers to a spectrum of abnormal invasion of the placenta into the uterus during pregnancy. PASD ranges in severity from involvement through the endometrial layer of the uterus to complete invasion involving other pelvic structures. This abnormal invasion can result in significant postpartum hemorrhage, often requiring large-volume transfusions, about six units of packed red blood cells on average. The maternal mortality rate associated with PASD is approximately 4-7%. The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) recommends that pregnancies complicated by PASD be delivered in hospitals with dedicated interdisciplinary teams, referred to as “Accreta Centers of …

Hydralazine is a vasodilator commonly used for hypertension. Hydrazine is commonly used in patients who can not tolerate ACEs and ARBs, resistant hypertension, and during pregnancy. Hydralazine has also been implicated in ANCA-associated vasculitis and drug-induced lupus erythematosus. Vasculitis is the presence of inflammatory leukocytes in vessel walls, inflammation can cause loss of vessel integrity which can lead to bleeding and downstream tissue ischemia and necrosis. Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (AΝCΑ)-associated vаsсulitiѕ (ΑΑV) is a necrotizing vаsсսlitis that does not substantially involve the deposition of immune complexes. Introduction: Primary cutaneous CD4+ small/medium T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (PCSM-LPD) is a rare cutaneous disorder that until 2016, was classified as a primary cutaneous lymphoma. PCSM-LPD histopathologically consists of a localized proliferation of small to medium-sized T lymphocytes. Clinically there is minimal to no systemic involvement. It typically presents as an asymptomatic, solitary red-purple nodule, papule, or plaque on the face. PCSM-LPD has an indolent course and an excellent prognosis. It is important to recognize PCSM-LPD as a distinct entity from primary cutaneous lymphoma to avoid treatments with side effects. Introduction Of the 6.1 million pregnancies that occurred in the United States in 2011, 45% were unintended. Of those unintended pregnancies, 42% ended in elective abortion. In the United States, the most common contraceptive method used is permanent female sterilization. Senate Bill 8 (SB8), also known as the Texas Heartbeat Act, was put into effect on September 1st, 2021. This act virtually bans all abortions after six weeks gestation. This study is aimed at evaluating the association between the implementation of SB8 and patients who underwent permanent sterilization procedures. Rituximab is a CD-20 monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of _. Rituximab is a steroid-sparing agent that can be used to control a variety of diseases. Introduction: Left Ventricular thrombus (LVT) is one of the most feared complications post myocardial infarction due to the high incidence of embolization. LVT typically form after myocardial infarction and the presence of low ejection fraction (EF), both of which contribute to Virchow’s triad for thrombus formation. LVT are less common in the absence of these risk factors or pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Bacterial meningitis and subsequent pyogenic ventriculitis in patients with complex medical histories and prior cranial surgeries presents significant diagnostic and management challenges. While typical signs of infection such as fever and leukocytosis may be present, secondary complications including seizure, respiratory failure, and pyogenic ventriculitis can complicate the clinical course. This case illustrates the need for comprehensive evaluation and tailored intervention in immunocompromised patients presenting with atypical infection.
