Background
Randomized control trials (RCTs) are an essential pillar of scientific knowledge and medical practice, and their integrity has important implications for reliable systemic reviews and meta-analyses. However, the number of article retractions due to falsified data and scientific misconduct has increased in recent years. In response, the scientific community has pursued the creation of quality criteria that can be utilized to promote trustworthiness.
Methods
After a quality criteria checklist was created by a team of experts, retracted and nonretracted studies were evaluated for adherence to assess the checklist’s usefulness and identify potential pitfalls. Retracted studies published in obstetric literature …

To explore the extent to which stigma permeates the field of psychiatry, this project, entitled “LABELED”, involved writing a series of structured poems for ten commonly stigmatized mental illnesses: anorexia nervosa, antisocial personality disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and substance use disorder. The shortest poems in each set focus on stereotypes and first impressions commonly held about these disorders while the longer poems center around the identity of these individuals beyond their diagnoses. Amongst each set of poems, there is a recontextualization of the words shared between …

EMET Projects
Background. Peptide citrullination and adduction with malondialdehyde-acetaldehyde adduct (MAA) are involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies are >90% specific for the diagnosis of RA, and MAA co-localizes with citrullinated proteins in RA synovial fluid. In addition, macrophages demonstrate increased expression of peptidyl arginine deiminase-2 (PAD2), an isozyme of PAD, in response to these MAA-adducted proteins. PAD catalyzes protein citrullination and may mediate the immunogenic transformation of synovial proteins and subsequent auto-antibody formation in RA. Here, we determine whether inhibition of PAD effects inflammatory and fibrotic markers in macrophages and RA human fibroblast-like synoviocytes (HFLS-RA) …

Rethinking Systematic Review Assignment Design In Graduate Health Science Education: Librarians' Perspectives, Laura Lipke, Carrie Price Mls
Rethinking Systematic Review Assignment Design In Graduate Health Science Education: Librarians' Perspectives, Laura Lipke, Carrie Price Mls
Library Scholarship
Background: This article examines the problematic phenomenon of faculty assigning graduate health science students systematic reviews as semester-based assignments while expecting a health science librarian to be a willing support system for those students. Despite published conduct and reporting guidelines establishing that systematic reviews require a team, time, and methodological expertise, some faculty still turn to full systematic review assignments in the classroom. The authors propose applying cognitive load theory and chunking the systematic review process into manageable steps, allowing both faculty and students to better understand the required methodologies and to enhance educational outcomes.
Experience: The authors have often …

Research Symposium
Background: Social determinants of health (SDOH) training is a critical component of medical education, equipping physicians to address factors such as economic stability, education, and health care access. Kirkpatrick’s model categorizes training outcomes into four levels—Reaction, Learning, Behavior, and Results—offering a validated framework to assess impact. Despite its importance, the evaluation of SDOH curricula often focuses on lower-level outcomes, such as learner satisfaction and knowledge assessment, with limited emphasis on behavioral change and patient outcomes.
By applying Kirkpatrick’s model, this study seeks to address evaluation in SDOH training evaluation and provide insights into designing effective curricula that produce measurable improvements …
