PURPOSE: Renewal of surgical curricula is critical in maintaining relevance to contemporary healthcare needs. A curriculum document usually describes its purpose, intended outcomes, content, methods, and assessment and evaluation processes. The document may also consider cultural, professional, political, and social contexts. While there are published curriculum development approaches, guidance on renewal processes is limited. BACKGROUND: Scholarly activity is a key requirement in pediatric subspecialty fellowship training. However, clear guidance on how to effectively support fellows in their scholarly endeavors remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study assesses the impact of a week-long departmental scholarship curriculum designed to enhance fellows' research competencies. METHODS: In 2024, a curriculum was designed and delivered to first-year pediatric subspecialty fellows over 5 days, combining group learning sessions with individualized tasks. Pre- and post-curriculum surveys assessed fellows' confidence and knowledge across key scholarly domains. Daily session evaluations provided additional feedback. The four main anatomical sciences, gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy, and embryology, are fundamental subjects for most health professionals and biomedical students. Usually taught as part of preclinical basic science training, the anatomical sciences provide a structural understanding of human or animal bodies at both macroscopic and microscopic levels. This overview characterizes how the anatomical sciences are currently taught around the globe, highlighting similarities, differences, and recent curricular transformations that were partially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Globally, educators of the anatomical sciences navigate similar pressures, including expectations of curricular integration and reduced time for anatomical teaching. Background: Accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs attract students with diverse academic backgrounds and experiences. Understanding the factors that contribute to student success is essential for improving retention and program effectiveness. While prior research has explored predictors of success in traditional BSN programs, limited data exists on accelerated BSN students. Aim: This study aimed to describe the factors predicting the success of students enrolled in an accelerated second-degree BSN program. Background: Exposure to open vascular case is declining in surgical training, creating a need for standardized, objective assessment of fundamental open skills. The Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery developed the Fundamentals of Vascular Surgery (FVS) curriculum to teach and assess three core skills—end-to-side anastomosis, patch angioplasty, and clockface precision suturing. Objective: Simulation is a helpful adjunct to vascular surgery training, in which high-volume surgical experience portends better patient outcomes. Louisiana State University Health New Orleans hosts a 3-day program, the Fundamentals of Vascular Surgery (FVS) Symposium, during which vascular trainees from across the nation can participate in didactic and hands-on lessons with an emphasis on procedures less frequently performed during residency, taught by attending surgeons from various institutions. Most emergency medicine (EM) interviews in 2023 remained virtual, and this format will persist for the foreseeable future. Since students are not evaluating programs in person in most cases, residency websites are crucial for prospective residents. Training surgeons poses many unique challenges. In addition to the clinical acumen that must be learned, a minimum threshold of technical competency is a requisite for independent practice. The trends of endovascular interventions and open surgical procedures add another layer of complexity to vascular surgery training. The interprofessional education (IPE) literature showcases many studies reporting results at the all-student and academic program levels. However, if the purpose of IPE is to develop collaborative-practice ready professionals, analysis at the team level would better support the advancement of the IPE literature and future health care goals. Pre-licensure students engaged in a two-year IPE curriculum and individually completed the Student Perceptions of Interprofessional Clinical Education-Revised survey, version 2 (SPICE-R2), at the end of the first and second year. Despite the increased emphasis on simulation-based interprofessional education (Sim-IPE) over the last 2 decades, surgical teamwork continues to suffer from ineffective dynamics requiring educational interventions to help improve it. This paper will provide an overview of the status of interprofessional simulation education in surgery by addressing the following topics: (1) team dynamics in surgery, (2) key concepts related to IPE and its benefits, and (3) salient examples of Sim-IPE in surgery with implementation tips.

Background: The Female Leadership Academy for Medical Excellence, members of the World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine, conducted this systematic review, which explores gender disparities in burnout among emergency physicians (EP) using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS). Burnout is a critical issue in healthcare, particularly in emergency medicine where high stress and demanding work environments prevail. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched PubMed and Epistemonikos for studies using MBI-HSS to measure burnout in EPs. Recent evidence has shown that pathology found during dissection can be used in the design of self-directed learning (SDL) activities with standards that are difficult to meet. Recognizing the transformative opportunities and potential risks afforded by LLMs, the Association of Academic Radiology-Radiology Research Alliance convened a task force to explore the promise and pitfalls of using LLMs such as ChatGPT in radiology. Introduction: Education on social determinants of health (SDH) aligns with national standards for medical education. However, there are minimal existing resources targeted to medical students specific to the care of the pediatric population. We designed a case-based curriculum on SDH for third-year medical students on their pediatric clerkship to address this deficit. Methods: Third-year medical students on their pediatric clerkship received a case-based flipped classroom educational series on SDH in four 10-minute segments. BACKGROUND Vertebral osteomyelitis (VO), also known as spinal osteomyelitis or spondylodiscitis, is a rather rare yet serious disease comprising 3%–5% of all osteomyelitis cases, with only 3%–6% of this subset affecting the cervical spine. Risk factors include an advanced age, diabetes, immunosuppression, and intravenous (IV) drug use. The incidence of VO has increased over recent decades, with high-risk patients experiencing higher mortality rates. Treatment guidelines for VO are not standardized and rely on physician preference, often starting with IV antibiotics and progressing to surgery, if necessary. BACKGROUND: Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is common, and 20-30% of patients presenting with HMB are diagnosed with an inherited bleeding disorder (IBD). Teleconferencing can facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to teaching radiology to medical students. This study aimed to determine whether an online learning approach enables students to appreciate the interrelated roles of radiology and other specialties during the management of different medical cases. Turkish medical students attended five 60-90-minute online lectures delivered by radiologists and other specialists from the United States and Canada through Zoom meetings between November 2020 and January 2021. BACKGROUND: As demand for total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty increases, more surgeons have pursued subspecialty training in adult reconstruction. However, little information is available regarding the practice environment in which these fellowship-trained surgeons practice. The purpose of this study was to describe the practice environments of contemporary adult reconstruction surgeons. METHODS: A survey was developed and distributed to members of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons from December 2022 to January 2023. This study aimed to perform a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of journals focused on dental education (Journal of Dental Education and European Journal of Dental Education) from 2014 to 2023. An ISI Web of Science Search was performed in October 2023 with no filters for language or keywords. Published articles between 2014 and 2018, 2019 and 2023, and 2014-2023, along with the top 100 cited articles published within this period were exported as txt files.
