Recent years have witnessed exponential growth in cardiac imaging technologies, allowing better visualization of complex cardiac anatomy and improved assessment of physiology. These advances have become increasingly important as more complex surgical and catheter-based procedures are evolving to address the needs of a growing congenital heart disease population. This state-of-the-art review presents advances in echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, cardiac computed tomography, invasive angiography, 3-dimensional modeling, and digital twin technology. The paper also highlights the integration of artificial intelligence with imaging technology. While some techniques are in their infancy and need further refinement, others have found their way into clinical workflow …

Discharge delays present hospitals with challenges in managing costs for Medicare admissions. Meanwhile, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRF) are subject to strict pre-admission requirements that can complicate efficient transitions of care for patients with intensive rehabilitation needs. The purpose of this retrospective quantitative correlational study was to examine any relationship between acute care discharge delays and IRF utilization. This study investigated whether length of stay (LOS) and Medicare Advantage prior authorization requirements impact IRF referrals by reviewing 3,747 medical records of acute stroke patients aged 65 years and older at a regionally integrated healthcare system over a 3-year period (2020- 2022). …

Each year, 700,000 patients are hospitalized with acute decompensated congestive heart failure. In order to effectively treat these patients, they require delicate management of volume status. Measuring volume status incorporates the following components: recording strict inputs and outputs of urine/fluids, recording daily standing weights and fluid restriction. This project focused on recording daily weights as a measure of accurate volume status and how that affected length of hospital stay. Data will be gathered by patient chart review including patient's admitted from Jan 2023 -Jan 2024 at Medical City Weatherford admitted with a primary/admitting diagnosis of congestive heart failure. Background: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic condition with high readmission rates, often due to inadequate patient knowledge about home care and symptom management. Individualized patient education combined with standardized approaches could improve patient outcomes.

Objective: This project’s goal was to determine if using individual patient knowledge to create a personalized education along with standard HF education would improve patient HF knowledge, improve home management and decrease HF readmission rates.

Pacemaker-lead associated complications are often documented in elderly populations with ischemic heart disease. Acute perforations within 24 hours of implantation are the most common, and immediate life-threatening complications are most likely to occur during an acute perforation. Subacute perforations between 1 day and 30 days after implantation are less common and carry a lower risk of life-threatening complications. Here, we present a unique case of subacute right ventricular perforation in a young individual with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, challenging the conventional understanding of such an occurrence. According to the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), Infective endocarditis (IE) is an infection of the endocardial surface of the native valve, prosthetic heart valve, or an implanted cardiac device such as a permanent pacemaker or a defibrillator. IE is a rare fatal disease with an incidence rate of 3 to 10 cases per 100,000 people, predominantly in males over the age of 50 years in developed countries. Septic emboli are a serious sequelae of infective endocarditis with commonly affecting brain, spleen, kidneys, and lung. Objective: This case study aims to highlight the mechanisms, clinical presentation, diagnostic strategies, and management approach utilized for recurrent non-sustained ventricular tachycardias in a patient with suspected cardiac amyloidosis.

Background: Amyloidosis is a group of disorders characterized by the abnormal deposition of amyloid proteins in tissues and organs throughout the body. These proteins aggregate into insoluble fibrils that disrupt normal cellular function, leading to a range of clinical manifestations depending on the affected organs. Cardiac amyloidosis is characterized by the deposition of amyloid fibrils specifically in the myocardial tissue, leading to restrictive cardiomyopathy, progressive heart failure and arrhythmias.
