Digital Infrastructure For The Regenerative Movement: A Case Study Of The Mycelium Learning Network, Abigail Karparis
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
The regenerative movement is gaining momentum worldwide, driven by communities working to restore ecological and social systems through place-based, culturally rooted action. Yet many of the groups leading this work, especially in the Global South or in hyper-local contexts, remain digitally invisible due to structural barriers, including limited access to appropriate technology, funding constraints, and misalignment between available tools and local values. Conventional digital infrastructures often exclude or marginalize these efforts, leaving regenerative practitioners disconnected from each other and from potential sources of support.

Rooted in a rural community’s needs, this paper explores how historically, and ethically informed infrastructures can support community engagement towards identification, documentation, and dissemination of local, traditional, and indigenous knowledge relating to climate change. The paper examines climate adaptation and sustainability issues through the lenses of community organizing and Library & Information Science best practices. It draws on a growing body of literature identifying a role for expanded epistemological and subject discipline perspectives. In recent years, agroecology has begun to receive increasing attention from international institutions such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO). For some, this is seen as a valuable case of up-scaling agroecology which will lead to greater institutional support for the framework. However, critical agroecologists have raised concerns that such institutional adoption is rather a form of co-optation where the social and political elements of agroecology are omitted to facilitate the integration of the framework into a wider program of food system reform. Minced lamb remains one of the most produced meat products in the meat industry, across both the food service and retail sectors. Tea polyphenols (TPs), renowned for their diverse biological activities, are increasingly being employed as natural food additives in research and development. Tea polyphenols at concentrations of 0.00% (CG), 0.01% (TP1), 0.10% (TP2), and 0.30% (TP3) were added to lamb which had undergone a series of freeze–thaw cycles. The presence of tea polyphenols led to a significant decrease in the number of disulfide bonds, resulting in a slower oxidation rate. In addition, the surface hydrophobicity and juice loss of …

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed deep inequalities in food access, particularly in urban informal settlements. This study examines the effectiveness of the “Tanimang Bayan” initiative, an urban agriculture project implemented in Sitio San Roque, Quezon City, as a form of agricultural extension during the pandemic. The research adopts a qualitative approach, drawing on data from key informant interviews, participant observation, and secondary sources. Findings indicate that the initiative provided a localized response to food insecurity by enhancing access to fresh produce and promoting community-led production. It also supported collective action and self-organization among residents, strengthening their autonomy in navigating structural limitations. …

Commiphora myrrha grows in various places of the world and is used for many purposes. The objectives of this study were to examine the biological influences of C. myrrha resin extract (MRE) alone or with its biogenic nanosilver on microbial, immune, and cancer cell growth. C. myrrha resin was boiled to prepare the MRE. Functional groups in the MRE were explored using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). MRE was used to synthesize nanosilver that was characterized using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis)-spectrophotometer and X-ray diffraction. This study focuses on enhancing the efficiency of agricultural decision support systems by integrating deep reinforcement learning techniques to optimize the path planning of agricultural vehicles. By decomposing the system into dynamics, action, strategy, reward, and discount factor components, a robust framework is established. A value-based reinforcement learning algorithm is introduced, enriched with policy gradient (PG) methodology to enable continuous and adaptive state-to-action decision-making process. A deep neural network (DNN) was used to approximate the state-action value function, resulting in the innovative DNN-PG-Q-learning algorithm. This review article investigated the antiinflammatory properties of barley, emphasizing its benefits beyond diabetes management. Barley, historically valued for its nutritional and medicinal properties, is rich in bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans, phenolic acids, and flavonoids. These compounds are known for their significant antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities. This study highlights the multifaceted mechanisms through which barley reduces systemic inflammation, including the enhancement of gut microbiota composition, the production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids, and the modulation of immune responses. To address this challenge, this study proposes a TCN-VAE framework, amalgamating temporal convolutional networks (TCNs) and variational autoencoders (VAEs), to tackle the crop yield prediction task in smart agricultural systems. Bitterness arising from naringin is a problem in citrus juices, especially grapefruit juice, in terms of consumer preference. Naringinase enzyme is used to eliminate the bitterness. In this study, naringinase was extracellularly extracted, isolated, and characterized from an Aspergillus niger strain in different media. The extracted enzyme was added to grapefruit juice at different concentrations (0.1%, 0.5%, 1%) (0.078, 0.39 and 0.78 EU) and stored at different temperatures (25, 35, and 45 °C) for 5 h. The main purpose of this paper was to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve the coordination between architectural design and the natural environment, so as to optimize resource utilization and reduce negative environmental impacts and improve the quality of human settlements. To do this, multiple types of data covering the environment, buildings, and user feedback were first collected and preprocessed. In this study, melatonin, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), and PGPR + melatonin were applied to the Festival and Kabarla strawberry varieties and the effects of these applications on fruit quality were investigated. The parameters of fruit weight, fruit width and length, soluble solids content (SSC), pH, titratable acidity (TA), phenolic compounds, organic acids, and vitamin C parameters were examined. The analysis shows that significantly better results were obtained in terms of fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, and SSC values in all fruits treated with melatonin, PGPR, and PGPR + melatonin, although there was variation between the strawberry varieties. …

The growing market demand for environmentally friendly products for plant nutrition has led to the development of new fertilizers, particularly liquid compost-based products such as teas, extracts, and leachates. The aim of this research was to compare the effect of chemical fertilization (CF) and its combination with liquid fertilizer based on vermicompost and beneficial microorganisms (CF + VP) on the phytochemical profile of strawberry (Senga Sengana), blackberry (Čačanska Bestrna) and blueberry (Aurora). Micropropagation involves the development of whole plants from small meristematic tissues by culturing them in vitro under aseptic conditions on a nutrient medium. However, identifying a single nutrient medium suitable for propagating Pistacia, a recalcitrant species, remains challenging. While some species exhibit good growth on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, Pistacia species generally yield insufficient results. Fig fruits (Ficus carica L.) have significant health benefits. Türkiye is the leading fig producer in the world. Despite their diversity and rich medicinal properties, the biochemical fingerprints and nutritional quality of local figs are poorly understood. This study aimed to analyze the peels and pulps of eight Turkish figs with varying colors for their total phenolic composition, sugars, and antioxidant capacity. Thirty-one phenolic compounds (PCs) were detected using HPLC-MS/MS. The dark-purple 01-1N-58 genotype had the highest amount of colored PCs in fruit peels and pulps (151.25 and 31.57 mg/100 g dw, respectively). Likewise, the maximum quantity of colorless PCs …

As international trade and travel increase around the world, invasive species detections and incursions are increasing in frequency. Here we document the first detection and incursion within Australia by the Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), Euwallacea fornicatus (Eichhoff, 1868) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), an ambrosia beetle, and two of the associated fungal species; Fusarium sp. [AF18], and Graphium euwallaceae. All three exotic species were detected in a confined region within Perth, Western Australia, and represent a co-invasion. Surface irrigation systems are still the predominant system used in some parts of Utah, representing nearly half of the irrigated area in the state and the region. Understanding the barriers to water optimization and opportunities for improvement in surface irrigation systems will help ensure their viability. In North America, mixedwood management is being increasingly considered by natural resource managers as an alternative to single species management for a variety of ecological, economic, and cultural reasons. In northern Minnesota, USA, natural resource managers are increasingly using treatments to establish mixedwood forests in aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx, Populus grandientata Michx) dominated ecosystems by planting white spruce (Picea glauca (Moench). However, little quantitative information is known regarding differences between stand structure and composition in conventional aspen and aspen-white spruce during early stand development. The 2025 Nebraska state Unicameral dealt with major state budget challenges but also managed to enact four bills affecting Nebraska agriculture and holding three other bills over for possible action in the 2026 legislative session. Enacted legislation dealt with a ban on laboratory-grown meat, the merger of state natural resource and environmental agencies, amending the 2024 paid sick leave initiative, and establishing a School Financing Review Commission. Agricultural-related bills carried over to the 2026 legislative session include modifying cattle feedlot brand inspection fees, inheritance tax reductions, and modifying the 2022 minimum wage initiative.

Poor reproductive performance has a negative impact on the profitability of sheep production systems with the number of lambs reared highlighted as a key driver of farm profitability. Nevertheless, the genetic improvement of reproductive traits in sheep has been constrained by their low heritability and pleiotropic nature. Understanding the underlying genetic architecture can improve genomic prediction estimates and enhance genetic gain.

A novel nanocomposite of polyvinyl alcohol formaldehyde (PVF) sponge loaded with green zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONP) and referred to as (NP-PVF) was fabricated as a potential adsorbent of ciprofloxacin from water. A simple mechanical foaming process was used to synthesize the adsorbent. Rice husk extract was used to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONP) for its phytochemicals as reducing agents. A facile and low-energy-dependent extraction method was used that did not require the use of high-temperature annealing.
