Agricultural And Food Policy Preferences: The 1994 Perspectives Of South Dakota Agricultural Producers, Bashir Qasmi, John A. Sondey
Economics Research Reports (1969 - 2017)
U.S. farm policies are reviewed, every five years concurrent with the drafting of new farm legislation. The present farm bill expires in 1995, and a new bill will be debated and enacted in 1995. Since farm and food policies have a major impact on farmers, information on their preferences with regard to these policies are invaluable to legislators as well as to different advocacy groups (working for farmers). The research was completed as a part of a 15 state study to document the agricultural and food policy preferences by agricultural producers. This report deals with the policy preferences of South …

Central Bank Of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin, December 1994, Central Bank Of Nigeria
CBN Statistical Bulletin
Financial data is compiled from various documents, such as balance sheets and financial statements, to meet legal and administrative requirements rather than economic analysis needs. The Finance and Accounts Department prepares the CBN accounting balance sheet data for the Research Department, using the monthly return of Assets and Liabilities and the summary trial balance as benchmarks. The Financial Statistics Office compiles the analytical CBN balance sheet without major reclassifications or rearrangements. Monetary survey accounts are produced by consolidating accounts of monetary authorities and deposit money banks. Monthly interest rate returns are used to compute weighted average lending and deposit interest …

Procedures For The Administration And Assessment Of Clearing And Protection Of Native Vegetation In Western Australia, Alexander Mcrae Holm
Soil conservation survey collection
It is Department of Agriculture policy that regulation is only used when all other approaches to address land degradation have failed. Our thrust is to encourage land holders to move towards using land within its capabilities as they continue to adopt sustainable farming systems. Underlying this approach is a self regulatory philosophy with land conservation district committees playing an important management and coordination role. Nevertheless the community expects that land degradation will be controlled and legislation is available to underpin or complement the good intentions of most land holders. The Soil and Land Conservation Act is the legislation used to …
Effects Of Soybean Cultivars And Planting Dates On Biomass Production, Aslam Tawhid
Effects Of Soybean Cultivars And Planting Dates On Biomass Production, Aslam Tawhid
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a valuable source of edible food and organic nitrogen. Soybean cultivar development and cultural practices have been directed toward seed production rather than forage or green manure production. Recent environmental concerns have resulted in renewed interest in the use of organic matter in agriculture. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the effects of cultivar maturity differences and planting dates on biomass production of soybean. The research was conducted on the Western Kentucky University Farm in 1993. The experimental design was a split-split-plot with four replications. The three planting dates (June 2, …
Oats As A Companion Crop For Alfalfa: Establishment Methods, Shannon Hurley
Oats As A Companion Crop For Alfalfa: Establishment Methods, Shannon Hurley
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Companion crops are commomly seeded with alfalfa in the spring as an establishment method. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the performance of seedling Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) in terms of yield when grown with spring oats (Avena sativa) as a companion crop and to evaluate the amount of weed control in the alfalfa companion crop seeding, under various management practices. Six establishment treatments were imposed: (1) solo-seeded alfalfa raised according to standard procedures recommended for Kentucky, (2) solo-seeded alfalfa with a herbicide treatment, (3) alfalfa seeded with an oat companion crop and treated with a herbicide, (4) …

Bulletin 4294 - Virus Diseases Of Lupins, Roger Jones
Bulletin 4294 - Virus Diseases Of Lupins, Roger Jones
Bulletins 4000 -
Two virus diseases pose a serious threat to lupins. These are caused by cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), which induces diseases in narrow-leafed and yellow lupins, and bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV), which infects all types of cultivated lupins. The effects of the viruses on lupin plants range from subtle colour changes and leaf distortion to leaf shedding, stunting and death. Seed production is decreased or prevented. There is no cure, but lupin crops can be managed to minimise both virus spread and its persistence from year to year.
CMV and BYMV occur within all tissues in the plant, but do …
A Guide To Floodplain Cattle Fencing, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia, Main Roads, Western Australia
A Guide To Floodplain Cattle Fencing, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia, Main Roads, Western Australia
Animal production and livestock published reports
A seminar and workshop was held at Fitzroy Crossing in October 1993 to address the consequences of flooding to landholders and communities.
Damage to flood plain fencing was identified as one of the major concerns to landholders.
An outcome from the workshop was the decision to draw on local knowledge and collate information on options for fence and floodgate designs.
This information was to be made available to land holders and other interested parties - hence this publication.
Msda A Machinery Selection Decision Aid For Stubble Management Practices, Linda Leonard, Andrew Green
Msda A Machinery Selection Decision Aid For Stubble Management Practices, Linda Leonard, Andrew Green
Grain and other field crops published reports
MSDA is a user friendly program developed to help farmers predict stubble outcomes before acting on their management practice. This manual is an accompaniment to a computer program designed on Micorsoft Excel-macros. Its aim is to help farmers assess their current machinery and stubble handling ability and view options that may be adopted as best practice for their properties.
The program is designed with the complete season in mind. Information is gathered on the full complement of machinery used from harvest through to seeding, to allow farmers to see all choices available and enable them to choose the best system …

Livestock Manure Production And Disposition: South Dakota Feedlots-Farms-Ranches, Donald Taylor
Livestock Manure Production And Disposition: South Dakota Feedlots-Farms-Ranches, Donald Taylor
Economics Research Reports (1969 - 2017)
In summary, compared to the U.S. 's major cattle feeding states in the Central and Southern Plains and the West, South Dakota's concentration of fed cattle per acre of cropland and per feedlot is limited. Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota--along with South Dakota--are way at the other end of the U.S. fed cattle concentration continuum. Compared to these three Midwestheartland states, however, developments in South Dakota's fed cattle industry over the past two decades have been greatly different. In 1993, compared to 1973, the average number of fed cattle marketed per feedlot in South Dakota has doubled, whereas in the three …

Long-Term Productivity And Profitability Of Conventional And Alternative Farming Systems In East-Central South Dakota: A Case Study, Thomas Dobbs, James D. Smolik
Economics Research Reports (1969 - 2017)
A small body of evidence has begun to emerge over the last 3 to 4 years on the comparative productivity and profitability of conventional farming systems and alternative systems which (1) avoid or use very small amounts of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and (2) place greater emphasis on crop rotations, especially rotations which involve forage and green manure legumes. Most of the evidence thus far has been based on only a few years of data, however. In contrast, South Dakota State university (SDSU) has recently completed three relatively long-term studies comparing conventional and alternative systems. Two of the studies …

This issue contains the 107th South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station Annual Report. This report covers July 1, 1993 - June 30, 1994.
The better part of communication is listening: Ag Experiment Station Director Fred Cholick plans to communicate by doing a lot of listening. What he hears will help him develop a better understanding of the needs of farmers and ranchers, scientists, and other South Dakotans. [p] 1
New director encourages integrated approach to ag research: All the resources necessary for the production of food and fiber-humans, soil, air, plants, animals-come under the umbrella of agriculture. All these resources will …

Development Of Semi-Intensive Aquaculture Technologies In Honduras: Summary Of Freshwater Aquacultural Research Conducted From 1983-1992, Bartholomew Green, David Teichert-Coddington, Terrill Hanson
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Aquacultural research has been conducted collaboratively in Honduras since 1983 by the International Center for Aquaculture and Aquatic Environments, Auburn University, and the Direccion General de Pesca y Acuicultura, Secretaria de Recursos Naturales. This research was carried out at the El Carao National Fish Culture Research Center, Comayagua, Honduras, under the auspices of the USAID-financed Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (PD/A CRSP). The goal of the PD/A CRSP is to increase tilapia yields by optimizing resource use in systems based predominantly on natural pond productivity.
