Arkansas cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) producers have made progress in sustainable production over the past twenty years with expanded adoption of soil and water conservation practices, including reduced tillage and use of winter cover crops. Producers have been uncertain about the need to modify other practices as they adopt conservation tillage systems, particularly the costly decision on whether to increase cotton seeding rates when they plant into stale seedbeds with high residue from terminated cover crops. The Field-to-Market Fieldprint Calculator is a software tool designed to estimate and compare relative sustainability of differing agricultural practices. This observational research compared conservation techniques to conventional practices in rice and cotton on three separate farms in Northeast Arkansas. Considering management and site conditions, the Fieldprint Calculator was used to compare sustainability metrics to standards at various spatial scales in a spidergraph report. Eight metrics were analyzed to produce reports, including greenhouse gas emissions, water quality and quantity, land and energy use, soil carbon and conservation, and biodiversity. This study evaluates the economic viability of integrating poultry into organic vegetable crop rotations over three years in Kentucky and Iowa and two years in California. Given the growing global demand for food and heightened environmental awareness, understanding the financial implications of such integrated systems is crucial. Our comprehensive experiment compared integrated poultry-vegetable rotations with vegetable-only systems, assessing costs, revenues, and key factors influencing profitability. While integrating poultry reduced vegetable production costs by up to 10% in some cases, overall system costs increased due to high poultry expenses. Cover crops, utilized by producers to provide seasonal soil cover between cash or forage crop cycles, play a significant role in diversifying crop rotations and enhancing environmental sustainability. This research aims to assess the economic impact and farmer perceptions of cover crop adoption in the southeastern United States, particularly in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Producers show interest in adopting cover crops with increasing awareness of their benefits, such as improved soil health, water quality, weed suppression, and reduced soil erosion. Contract farming (CF), generally a commercial farming system, is widely perceived as a welfare enhancement strategy in rural areas where agriculture is the major source of livelihood. However, those welfare implications have not been adequately explored in Indian agriculture. So, this study examines the returns to CF and the heterogeneity in their returns across various groups of wheat growers in Haryana, a leading agrarian state in India. Using an endogenous switching regression model on cross-sectional data of 754 farm households, the study found that CF adopters would lose 27% of their gross margins and 11% of their crop output if …

Long-term climate changes in humidity and soil wetness in the cold deserts of the Western Himalaya are still not well researched. Southern blight, a disease caused by the soil-borne fungus Sclerotium rolfsii (S. rolfsii), is favored by the hot and humid conditions of the southeastern United States, posing a significant challenge to hemp production in Tennessee. Black plastic mulch (BPM), commonly used for weed control, can exacerbate the disease. There is limited information on the effects of straw mulch (SM), known to moderate soil temperatures and moisture, or planting time in disease management. In this fact sheet, we examine the drought management options available to cattle operations on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, the largest Native American reservation in Utah. Specifically, we discuss the results of a study that evaluated the economic outcomes of two common drought response strategies: herd reduction and supplemental hay purchases. We also provide recommendations for ranchers on optimal strategies, i.e., those that maximize profits for two rancher types, differentiated by their willingness to accept risk (risk-neutral) or avoid it (risk-averse).

Watermelon is a water-intensive vegetable crop that is sensitive to drought and requires adequate nutrient supply for good yield and fruit quality. It is an important vegetable crop grown on 142,000 acres in the United States and 586 acres throughout Utah. Utah experienced its driest year on record in 2020 during a five-year drought (2019 to 2023). This affected local ecosystems, including the Great Salt Lake, which experienced record-low water levels. The drought also negatively affected the agricultural sector, including watermelon growers. Higher-than-average fertilizer prices in recent years have also threatened watermelon production. Penelitian mengenai “Pengaruh Pemberian Berbagai Dosis Curcuminoid Pada Babi Terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Konversi Ransum” dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2009 sampai bulan Maret 2010 di KPBI (Koperasi Peternak Babi Indonesia), Kecamatan Cisarua, Kabupaten Bandung. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pemberian dosis yang tepat serta pengaruh Curcuminoid sebagai bahan pakan feed additive terhadap kurva laju pertumbuhan dan angka konversi ransum. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemberian molibdenum dan inokulasi rhizobium terhadap berat akar, berat nodul efektif dan hasil hijauan legum. Rancangan percobaan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial 3 faktor (4 x 2 x 2) dengan 2 kali ulangan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon broiler terhadap pemberian ransum mengandung dedak padi hasil fermentasi oleh Aspergillus ficuum yang diukur melalui konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan, konversi ransum, persentase karkas dan imbangan efisiensi protein. Penelitian menggunakan 300 ekor ayam broiler final stock Arbor Acres yang dibagi ke dalam 30 plot. Ransum disusun iso-protein dan iso-energi dengan kandungan protein kasar 22% dan energi metabolis 3100 kkal/kg. Yeasts merupakan mikroba potensial untuk dikembangkan sebagai penghasil komponen bioaktif seperti enzim, antimicrobial agent sebagai biopreservasi, serta pengahasil pewarna makanan (pigment). Penelitian merupakan studi ekploratif potensi yeasts yang diisolasi dari daging ayam dan sapi. Ditemukan isolate yeasts yang memiliki karakteristik spesifik dengan warna merah. Jumlah total yeasts pada daging ayam 2.105 cfu/gram sedangkan pada daging sapi 1.105 cfu/gram. Hasil pemurnian isolate diperoleh dua isolate yang memiliki kemampuan daya hambat yang terhadap Pseudomonas aerugenes dan Staphylococus aureus serta tidak meiliki aktivitas penghambatan terhadap Escherichia coli dan Candida albicans. pH akhir media selama fermentasi 25 0C, 48 jam adalah 5,5 dan 5,6 …

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan jus buah mangga dan apel terhadap keasaman, total bakteri dan sineresis stirred yoghurt mangga dan apel yang dihasilkan dan selama proses penyimpanan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tiga perlakuan yaitu stirred yoghurt mangga, stirred yoghurt apel dan kontrol. Stirred yoghurt yang dihasilkan disimpan selama 7 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan stirred yoghurt mangga (210 menit, pH=4,3) dan apel (210 menit, pH=4,2) terkoagulasi lebih cepat dan pada pH yang lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan control (250 menit, pH=4,4). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium Mikrobiologi dan Pengolahan Limbah Fakultas Peternakan universitas padjadjaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jumlah total bakteri dan koliform pada lumpur hasil ikutan pembentukan gasbio dari feses sapi perah. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode eksplorasi pada peternak sapi perah yang membuat instalasi gasbio di desa Haurngombong, Kecamatan Pamulihan-Sumedang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jumlah bakteri total adalah 41,82 x 1012 cfu/ml lumpur, sedangkan jumlah 8,23 MPN/ml lumpur. Kata kunci : bakteri total, koliform, lumpur, gasbio, feses sapi perah.

Usaha perbibitan pada peternakan sapi perah memegang peranan penting dalam penyediaan stock bibit sapi perah. Dalam kerangka budidaya sapi perah, perbibitan atau breeding merupakan bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari siklus feeding, breeding, dan management. Ke tiga faktor tersebut sangat penting dalam usahaternak sapi perah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan berbagai tingkat asam sulfat (H2So4) dan asam formiat (HCOOH) pada proses pikel terhadap kualitas kulit jadi (leather) Domba Garut. Kualitas Kulit jadi didasarkan pada kadar keasaman (pH), kadar krom (Cr2O3), dan kadar air (H2O). Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen menggunakan pola faktorial dengan rancangan dasar rancangan acak lengkap, menggunakan 48 lembar kulit Domba Garut jantan ukuran 90. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh suplemen Zn-Proteinat, Cu-Proteinat dan Ca-Minyak dalam ransum berbasis pucuk tebu diamoniasi terhadap pertumbuhan dan efisiensi ransum pada domba jantan persilangan Priangan x Barbados. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari potensi pakan asal limbah tanaman pangan dan daya dukungnya terhadap populasi ternak ruminansia di wilayah kabupaten Garut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara survey dan pengumpulan data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Potensi pakan asal rumput alam dan jerami asal limbah tanaman pangan di seluruh wilayah kabupaten Garut adalah 414.211,1 ton bahan kering (BK) yang terdiri atas 151.395,6 ton BK asal rumput dan 262.815,5 ton BK asal limbah tanaman pangan. Cangkang rajungan mengandung kitin yang persentasenya paling besar berupa polisakarida. Kitin dan derivat-derivatnya telah banyak digunakan dalam berbagai keperluan terutama untuk kesehatan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung rajungan sebagai sumber kitin terhadap efisiensi pakan dan kandungan lemak feces tikus putih Rattus norvegicus) strain Wistar. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial 2x5 dengan tiga kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis kelamin dan kedua level tepung rajungan yaitu 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Agricultural technologies are widely seen as a driver for sustainability, resilience, and food-system transformation. Yet in 2025, agtech startup across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa experienced multiple shutdowns. Although each company closed for its own reasons, the failures highlight consistent underlying patterns. We analyze 18 publicly reported shutdowns across controlled-environment agriculture (CEA), robotics, insect protein, digital platforms, sensors, and ag-biotechnology. We find that most ventures struggled not with scientific feasibility but with economic and adoption dynamics at the farm level. In the machine-harvested pickling cucumber system, parthenocarpic (parth) varieties make up about 50% of the market, and is growing. The seed cost is higher, but this is offset by not needing to contract or truck bees and an increased yield when planted at half the population of standard varieties. Additionally, they hold their shape and size better when moisture and temperatures fluctuate, reducing docked payments from graders. In pickling cucumbers, a breakeven yield is approximately 250 bushels per acre with a plant population of 30,000 plants per acre. In this fact sheet, we examine the drought management options available to cattle operations on the Navajo Nation, the largest Native American reservation in the U.S. Specifically, we discuss the results of a study evaluating the economic outcomes of two common drought response strategies: herd reduction and supplemental hay purchases. We also provide recommendations for ranchers on optimal strategies, i.e., those that maximize profits, for two rancher types, differentiated by their willingness to accept (risk-neutral) or avoid risk (risk-averse).
