Rapid Prediction Of Yellow Peach Spoilage Time Based On Portable Near Infrared Spectrometer, Zhou Xu, Yang Qianqian, Zhang Jin, Li Boyan

Objective: Portable near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and stoichiometric methods were used to predict the spoilage time of yellow peach. Methods: Diffuse reflectance spectra of yellow peach samples were collected using a portable NIR spectrometer. Spectral preprocessing techniques were employed to enhance data features, and partial least squares (PLS) regression was applied to establish a prediction model upon the spoilage time and NIR data of yellow peach. The model performance was evaluated by both root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2). Results: An R2 value of 0.63 and RMSE of 4.09 days were achieved for …

Zanthoxylum bungeanum is native to China and is a traditional food seasoning and traditional Chinese medicine. It plays an important role in food processing and disease prevention. In this article, the research progress of Z. bungeanum and its extracts in recent years is illustrated, the active components, extraction methods of extracts and application in food processing are analyzed, and the physiological activity, extraction method, and application in food storage, condiment and other food of Z. bungeanum extracts are discussed, the Z. bungeanum and its extracts in the food industry are prospected.

[Objective] To analyze the differences in volatile components between three kinds of dried L. edoeds. [Methods] Three different drying methods (hot air drying, radio frequency-hot air drying, vacuum freeze drying) were used to determine the volatile substances in L. edoeds by gas chromatogi-ion migration spectrometry (GC-IMS), and the differences of volatile substances in L. edoeds were analyzed according to fingerprint and PCA. [Results] The main volatile components of dried L. edoeds were aldehydes, alcohols, ketones and acids. [Methods] The numerical simulation software COMSOL was used to conduct numerical simulation of temperature field under mechanical ventilation for 96 h for tall bungalow warehouse with size of 60 m×24 m and loading height of 6 m. The grape and wine industry in Iowa is based on non-Vitis vinifera grapes, which are not well-known by consumers and come with their own set of challenges, such as promotion. The Wine Wednesdays workshop focused on promoting awareness and knowledge of local wines and grapes. Results indicate gain in self-perceived knowledge and intention of behavior changes toward local grapes and wines. These workshops also participate in the development of relationships among wineries, which is overall beneficial for the local grape and wine industry.

Stomata regulate CO2 and water vapor exchange between leaves and the atmosphere. Stomata are a target for engineering to improve crop intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE). One example is by expressing genes that lower stomatal density (SD) and reduce stomatal conductance (gsw). However, the quantitative relationship between reduced SD, gsw, and the mechanisms underlying it is poorly understood. We addressed this knowledge gap using low-SD sugarcane (Saccharum spp. hybrid) as a case study alongside a meta-analysis of data from 10 species. In 2014, the Annual Forage Insurance Program (AFIP) was offered for the first time by the USDA – Risk Management Agency (RMA) as a pilot program for the states of Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. It was expanded to include Colorado in 2016 and New Mexico in 2017. The growing number of farm attacks and xenophobia is one of the most serious crime issues facing the South African government. This study examines the impact of xenophobia on agricultural trade, using port-level trade data and xenophobia incident records from 2010 to 2023. Utilizing fixed effects Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) specifications, I find a significant negative impact of xenophobia on agricultural exports, while non-agricultural trade remains unaffected. These findings highlight the need for targeted policy interventions to combat xenophobic violence and stabilize the agricultural sector, ensuring the continuity of South Africa's trade and economic growth.

Rice landrace FR13A is the original donor of the SUB1A gene. FR13A harbors hidden genetic variation that surpasses the submergence tolerance level of SUB1A. Here, we provide an overview of the unique features of FR13A associated with exceptional recovery ability that have been overlooked since the significant discovery of the SUB1 locus. We present a detailed overview of how to underpin the new genes associated with the recovery ability seen in FR13A. Finally, we propose a unique approach to develop rice cultivars that surpass submergence tolerance beyond the SUB1 locus from FR13A.

The almond industry in California faces water management challenges that are being exacerbated by droughts, climate change, and groundwater sustainability legislation. The Tree-crop Remote sensing of Evapotranspiration eXperiment (T-REX) aims to explore opportunities to improve precision irrigation management for woody perennial cropping systems. Almond orchards in the California Central Valley were equipped with eddy covariance flux measurements to evaluate satellite remote sensing-based evapotranspiration (RSET) models. This report provides recommendations for the practical application of a methodology for calculating and applying Animal Units in the rangelands of Western Australia.

Animal Units have evolved over time, in their definition, derivation and the size of the standard animals used. This has resulted in their being varying and inconsistent approaches within and across jurisdictions which has limited their application.

The Animal Unit methodology applied in this report is used in other rangeland and pastoral regions, it therefore progresses a nationally consistent approach.

The knowledge and perceptions of mental health resources for agricultural workers were explored at the 2024 American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) National Conference. Data were gathered via a voluntary survey conducted at the event. With 137 completed surveys, the study revealed that the participants desired more information regarding agricultural mental health resources and revealed their preferences for receiving this information. These findings will lead USU Extension to create impactful educational resources to better address mental health awareness and education needs in agricultural workers.
