We have developed a method for the synthesis of a tripartite nanoconjugate comprised of an AuNP drug carrier chemically conjugated to a transporter protein (wheat germ agglutinin coupled to horseradish peroxidase or WGA-HRP) and to potent SCI drugs. The therapeutic efficacy and biodistribution were studied in a validated animal model. Our results show that a single administration of the nanoconjugate improved diaphragmatic activity at a …

Shear Band Formation In Amorphous Materials Under Oscillatoryshear Deformation, Nikolai V. Priezjev Jan 2019

Shear Band Formation In Amorphous Materials Under Oscillatoryshear Deformation, Nikolai V. Priezjev

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications

The effect of periodic shear on strain localization in disordered solids is investigated using molecular dynamics simulations. We consider a binary mixture of one million atoms annealed to a low temperature with different cooling rates and then subjected to oscillatory shear deformation with a strain amplitude slightly above the critical value. It is found that the yielding transition occurs during one cycle but the accumulation of irreversible displacements and initiation of the shear band proceed over larger number of cycles for more slowly annealed glasses. The spatial distribution and correlation function of nonaffine displacements reveal that their collective dynamics changes …

BCoE Publications

The goal of this study is to recognise various factors for responsive SCs that affect supply risk and model their impact on SC design and operation. We propose a conceptual model for SC responsiveness that encompasses practices such as flexibility, agility, internal integration, and visibility. This conceptual model is utilised to build up a multi-objective, multi-period SC design and operation model. A heuristic algorithm is developed to find the supplier, product, period, and production rate for the numerical problem. The improved genetic algorithm (GA) produces solutions with more accuracy in considerably less time than a traditional GA. Finally, an approach …

Structural Relaxation Of Porous Glasses Due To Internal Stresses And Deformation Under Tensile Loading At Constant Pressure, Nikolai V. Priezjev, Maxim A. Makeev Jan 2019

Structural Relaxation Of Porous Glasses Due To Internal Stresses And Deformation Under Tensile Loading At Constant Pressure, Nikolai V. Priezjev, Maxim A. Makeev

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications

The time evolution of the pore size distributions and mechanical properties of amorphous solids at constant pressure is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. The porous glasses were initially prepared at constant volume conditions via a rapid thermal quench from the liquid state to the glassy region and allowing for simultaneous phase separation and material solidification. We found that at constant pressure and low temperature, the porous network becomes more compact and the glassy systems relocate to progressively lower levels of the potential energy. Although the elastic modulus and the average glass density both increase with the waiting time, their dependence …

Prediction Of The Outcome In Cardiac Arrest Patients Undergoing Hypothermia Using Eeg Wavelet Entropy, Hana Moshirvaziri

CGU Theses & Dissertations

Cardiac arrest (CA) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Induction of hypothermia has been found to improve the functional recovery of CA patients after resuscitation. However, there is no clear guideline for the clinicians yet to determine the prognosis of the CA when patients are treated with hypothermia. The present work aimed at the development of a prognostic marker for the CA patients undergoing hypothermia. A quantitative measure of the complexity of Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, called wavelet sub-band entropy, was employed to predict the patients’ outcomes. We hypothesized that the EEG signals of the patients who …

Temporal Variations In Methane Emissions From An Unconventional Well Site, Derek Johnson, Robert Heltzel, Dakota Oliver Jan 2019

Temporal Variations In Methane Emissions From An Unconventional Well Site, Derek Johnson, Robert Heltzel, Dakota Oliver

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

Studies have aimed to quantify methane emissions associated with the growing natural gas infrastructure. Quantification is completed using direct or indirect methods—both of which typically represent only a snapshot in time. Most studies focused on collecting emissions data from multiple sites to increase sample size, thus combining the effects of geospatial and temporal variability (spatio-temporal variability). However, we examined the temporal variability in methane emissions from a single unconventional well site over the course of nearly 2 years (21 months) by conducting six direct quantification audits. We used a full flow sampling system that quantified methane mass emissions with an …

Impact Of Loss Of Generation On Bus Voltage Frequency And Rocof, Damien Doheny, Michael Conlon Jan 2019

Impact Of Loss Of Generation On Bus Voltage Frequency And Rocof, Damien Doheny, Michael Conlon

Conference papers

This study investigates how the loss of a generator impacts bus voltage RoCoF post-disturbance. The results show that the fastest bus voltage RoCoFs will occur close to generators impacted the most by the disturbance but this may not be the closest generator to the disturbance. The study also demonstrates a simple method that can be used to identify the generator that will be impacted most after a disturbance and hence the network location that will experience the fastest RoCoF.
