A Comparative Study On Electrical Characteristics Of Suspension Insulators, Lyhour You
A Comparative Study On Electrical Characteristics Of Suspension Insulators, Lyhour You
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Throughout the service life, suspension insulators may sustain damage from a variety of sources. It's crucial to select suspension insulators with appropriate electrical performance. It is anticipated that physical attributes such as forms and sizes will have a significant impact on electrical properties. In order to examine the relationship between electrical performance and physical dimensions, suspension insulators are tested and the findings are examined. Suspension insulators are subjected to dimensional measurements, dry and wet flashovers, leakage current measurement, critical impulse flashovers (CFO), radio influence voltage (RIV), and dissipation factor measurement. Then the correlation coefficients between each parameter pair are determined. …

Novel Pricing Structure And Mechanism With Consideration Of Network Usage Charges For Peer-To-Peer Energy Trading In Distribution Systems Of Thailand, Surapad Larbwisuthisaroj
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The rise of distributed energy resources has empowered consumers to become prosumers, generating their own electricity. This trend has led to the development of peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading. This dissertation focuses on two main areas: integrating network charges in P2P energy trading and determining the maximum P2P penetration levels on distribution systems while considering stakeholder benefits. Firstly, a framework for network usage charges (NUCs) and corresponding market clearing mechanisms are proposed. The NUCs comprise two key components: distribution NUCs (DNUCs) and operational NUCs (ONUCs). These charges are designed to recover energy-related and nonenergy-related costs incurred in the distribution system. DNUCs …
Convolutional Neural Network Based Wireless Channel Estimation And Impact Of Estimation On Hybrid Precoding, Sunita Khichar
Convolutional Neural Network Based Wireless Channel Estimation And Impact Of Estimation On Hybrid Precoding, Sunita Khichar
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Channel estimation is vital in wireless communication systems, influencing overall performance and efficiency. This thesis presents three contributions to enhance channel estimation techniques for next-generation systems. Firstly, we propose a modified ChannelNet, CNN for estimating fast-fading channels in OFDM systems. By replacing traditional linear interpolation with zero padding and using SRCNN and FSRCNN, we significantly reduce complexity while maintaining MSE performance comparable to linear minimum MSE estimation. This approach balances efficiency and accuracy for fast-fading channel estimation. Secondly, we examine the impact of the number of radio frequency (RF) chains and training power on channel estimation in massive MIMO downlink …

Loss Comparison Study Of Two-Level And Three-Level Inverters For Electric Vehicle Drives, Kaninnat Rosdee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis investigates the efficiency of wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor devices, specifically silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), in electric vehicle (EV) traction drive systems using two-level and three-level voltage source inverters (VSIs). The research aims to compare power losses and efficiency improvements by employing WBG devices in the inverters. Simulation results demonstrate that WBG devices significantly reduce conduction and switching losses in both inverter topologies compared to conventional silicon insulated-gate bipolar transistors (Si-IGBTs). SiC MOSFET, in particular, shows over 40% reduction in conduction losses and over 60% reduction in switching losses, leading to an overall efficiency improvement of …

Technical And Economic Feasibility Of A Microgrid For A Fire Station In Humboldt County, California., Nishaant Kumar Sinha
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Microgrids are emerging as a promising solution to unreliable grid energy. Today, California is not only witnessing grid resiliency challenges from natural disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods and heatwaves, but it is also seeking to green the grid and bring more renewables online. For example, Humboldt County, where this project is focused, has recently experienced an earthquake of 6.4M (on December 22nd, 2022), which shut down the regional grid for ~20 hours.
Microgrid adoption enables critical facilities to operate seamlessly. The Humboldt Bay Fire Station (HBFS) No.1 is one such example, where first responders work to protect citizens against …

This research provides an adaptive control design in a photovoltaic system (PV) for maximum power point tracking (MPPT). In the PV system, MPPT strategies are used to deliver the maximum available power to the load under solar radiation and atmospheric temperature changes. This article presents a new adaptive control framework to enhance the performance of MPPT, which will minimize the complexity in system control and efficiently manage uncertainties and disruptions in the environment and PV system. Here, the MPPT algorithm is decoupled with model reference adaptive control (MRAC) techniques, and the system gains MPPT with overall system stability. The simulation …

Wheat is the most important and dominating crop in Pakistan in terms of production and acreage, which is grown on 37% of the cultivated area, accounting for 70% of the total production. However, wheat yield is highly affected by stripe rust, which is considered the most devastating fungal disease, causing 5.5 million tonnes of loss per year globally. In order to minimize this loss, the accurate and timely detection of rust disease is crucial instead of manual inspection. In current days, sensor nodes are deployed in hostile environments for various military and commercial applications. Sensor nodes are becoming faulty and having adverse effects in the network if they are not diagnosed and inform the fault status to other nodes. Fault diagnosis is difficult when the nodes behave faulty some times and provide good data at other times. The intermittent disturbances may be random or kind of spikes either in regular or irregular intervals. In literature, the fault diagnosis algorithms are based on statistical methods using repeated testing or machine learning. To avoid more complex and time consuming repeated …

In recent years, various deep neural networks with different learning paradigms have been widely employed in various applications, including medical diagnosis, image analysis, self-driving vehicles and others. The activation functions employed in deep neural networks have a huge impact on the training model and the reliability of the model. The Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU) has recently emerged as the most popular and extensively utilized activation function. ReLU has some flaws, such as the fact that it is only active when the units are positive during back-propagation and zero otherwise. This causes neurons to die (dying ReLU) and a shift in …

Nio Nanoparticles-Decorated Carbon Fiber Cloth As Lithiophilic Host Material For Stable Lithium Metal Batteries, Sarwar Ahmed
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Lithium metal is considered the Holy Grail for the anode for next-generation rechargeable batteries. Lithium metal has the highest theoretical capacity and lowest anode potential with respect to the standard hydrogen electrode (SHE). However, its commercialization is hindered by uncontrolled dendrite growth, weak solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), and low coulombic efficiency. The dendrite formation leads to a short circuit between the anode and cathode, which creates a dangerous safety issue. Several host materials and artificial SEI layers have been developed to suppress these issues. However, the effectiveness of these solutions is limited. More research is needed to develop more efficient …

The global orange industry constantly faces new technical challenges to meet consumer demands for quality fruits. Instead of traditional subjective fruit quality assessment methods, the interest in the horticulture industry has increased in objective, quantitative, and non-destructive assessment methods. Oranges have a thick peel which makes their non-destructive quality assessment challenging. This paper evaluates the potential of short-wave NIR spectroscopy and direct sweetness classification approach for Pakistani cultivars of orange, i.e., Red-Blood, Mosambi, and Succari. The correlation between quality indices, i.e., Brix, titratable acidity (TA), Brix: TA and BrimA (Brix minus acids), sensory assessment of the fruit, and short-wave NIR …

Rapid growth in the utilization of the inverter-interfaced distributed energy resources (IIDERs) in microgrids has brought new challenges in the network protection area. Microgrid protection specifically becomes a concern during operation in the islanded mode. There is a considerable reduction in fault current levels in this mode compared to when the microgrid is connected to the grid, which makes conventional algorithms operate with significant delay or, in many cases, not even pick up the fault. This paper proposes a protection algorithm based on the rate of change of direct-axis current component ( id ) to protect inverter-based microgrids (IBMGs). The …

Metaheuristics in recent years has proven its effectiveness; however, robust algorithms that can solve real-world problems are always needed. In this paper, we suggest the first extended version of the recently introduced gaining–sharing knowledge optimization (GSK) algorithm, named multiobjective gaining–sharing knowledge optimization (MOGSK), to deal with multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). MOGSK employs an external archive population to store the nondominated solutions generated thus far, with the aim of guiding the solutions during the exploration process. Furthermore, fast nondominated sorting with crowding distance was incorporated to sustain the diversity of the solutions and ensure the convergence towards the Pareto optimal set, …
