A Charging Strategy For Large Commercial Electric Vehicle Fleets, Bassam Al-Hanahi, Iftekhar Ahmad, Daryoush Habibi, Pravakar Pradhan, Mohammad A. S. Masoum
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The popularity of Commercial Electric Vehicles (CEVs) has experienced a surge in recent years, particularly in urban vocational contexts, as a means of advancing towards the goal of attaining net-zero emissions by 2050. The return-to-base charging strategy, which involves charging CEVs at depots, has become a prevalent practice for smaller CEV fleets. Nevertheless, for larger CEV fleets, the limited charging capacity at depots presents a significant challenge, leading to a reliance on both limited depot charging infrastructure and public charging infrastructure. This reliance can have a substantial impact on both the operational costs and the sustainability of logistics services. To …

Optimal Pilot Length For Key Generation In Correlated Wireless Channels, Danqi Li, Shihao Yan, Jia Zhang, Jiande Sun, Feng Shu
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This work examines the optimal pilot length for key generation in correlated wireless channels. We first deduce the secret key capacity as a function of the pilot length N and other system parameters. Then, derive two fixed-point equations to identify the optimal N with and without an eavesdropper. Our analysis and numerical results confirm the existence of the optimal N that maximizes the secret key capacity, and both results for optimal N are consistent. Furthermore, the optimal N generally decreases with average signal-to-noise ratio and maximum Doppler shift. Our examination can provide useful guidelines in designing practical key generation systems.

Radiation Damage Simulation Using Molecular Dynamics In Ni-Based Alloy, Yanxin Shen, Yue Yang, Xuelian Ou, Peng Wang, Zhenjiang You, Xiaofeng Tian
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
In the present study, we investigated the irradiation-induced induction in Ni80Cr20, Ni80Fe20, Ni50Fe50, Ni40Fe40Cr20 by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. A previously published modified potential is used to provide a detailed account of the process involved in the production and evolution of defects. Ni50Fe50 and Ni40Fe40Cr20 alloys exhibit comparable damage level and better radiation response compared to Ni80Cr20 and Ni80Fe20. The inhibition effect of interstitial clusters increases with the complexity of alloying elements. The alloying of Cr has resulted in Ni80Fe20 and Ni50Fe50 tend to form 1/3<111> dislocation loops while at the same time making Ni40Fe40Cr20 and Ni80Cr20 more susceptible to …111>

In the recent years, the mathematical planning model of transmission networks based on full AC load flow has been developed. But, due to the model non-convexity and the existing of large number of local solutions, this model can only be used for small size networks as it consumes large unreasonable computation time in addition to its incapability to yield global solution in most cases. To overcome these problems, two new iterative solution procedures have been presented in this paper. In the first one, the objective function is changed to the minimization of the number of new lines required to satisfy …

Large deep learning models are impressive, but they struggle when real-time data is not available. Few-shot class-incremental learning (FSCIL) poses a significant challenge for deep neural networks to learn new tasks from just a few labeled samples without forgetting the previously learned ones. This setup can easily leads to catastrophic forgetting and overfitting problems, severely affecting model performance. Studying FSCIL helps overcome deep learning model limitations on data volume and acquisition time, while improving practicality and adaptability of machine learning models. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on FSCIL. Unlike previous surveys, we aim to synthesize few-shot learning and incremental …

To enable common users to capitalize on the power of deep learning, Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS) has been proposed in the literature, which opens powerful deep learning models of service providers to the public. To protect the data privacy of end users, as well as the model privacy of the server, several state-of-the-art privacy-preserving MLaaS frameworks have also been proposed. Nevertheless, despite the exquisite design of these frameworks to enhance computation efficiency, the computational cost remains expensive for practical applications. To improve the computation efficiency of deep learning (DL) models, model pruning has been adopted as a strategic …

Personalizing conversational agents can enhance the quality of conversations and increase user engagement. However, they often lack external knowledge to tend to a user’s persona appropriately. This is particularly crucial for practical applications like mental health support, nutrition planning, culturally sensitive conversations, or reducing toxic behavior in conversational agents. To enhance the relevance and comprehensiveness of personalized responses, we propose using a two-step approach that involves (1) selectively integrating user personas and (2) contextualizing the response with supplementing information from a background knowledge source. We develop K-PERM (Knowledge-guided PErsonalization with Reward Modulation), a dynamic conversational agent that combines these elements. …

Chronic healthcare conditions such as Asthma re- quires constant monitoring and managing of symptoms and their triggers for better quality of life. Each asthma patient reacts very differently to potential triggers. Hence, there is a need to develop a explainable personalized framework for each patient to capture susceptibility to asthma triggers. We developed a personalized knowledge-based probabilistic model to predict asthma exacerbation for different environmental factors utilizing patient generated health data from pediatric asthma patients. Further, the personalized model provides a metric, called Health Coefficient, to quantify the health of a patient for varying environmental factors. We demonstrate the predictive …

Temporal alignment in stateful generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems remains an underexplored area, particularly beyond goal-driven approaches in planning. Stateful refers to maintaining a persistent memory or “state” across runs or sessions. This helps with referencing past information to make system outputs more contextual and relevant. This position paper proposes a framework for temporal alignment with several configurable toggles. We present four alignment mechanisms: knowledge graph path-based, neural score-based, vector similarity-based, and sequential process-guided alignment. By offering these interchangeable approaches, we aim to provide a flexible solution adaptable to complex and real-world applications. This paper discusses the potential benefits and …
