Uav-X Communication: Empirical Characterization And Performance Optimization, Muhammad Hashir Syed

Electrical Engineering Theses and Dissertations

In emerging wireless networks, the scalability of deploying drones presents an opportunity to design extensive aerial networks. These networks could effectively monitor large agricultural fields from the air and soil for food production with efficient resource utilization. On the one hand, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have gained interest in agricultural aerial inspection due to their ubiquity and observation scale. On the other hand, agricultural internet-of-thing devices, including buried soil sensors, have gained interest in improving natural resource efficiency in crop production. In this work, we investigate the natural interaction of these two phenomena, where UAVs can be leveraged as flying …

Analysis And Improvement Of Efficient Charge Recovery Logic Adiabatic Circuits, William Morell Apr 2024

Analysis And Improvement Of Efficient Charge Recovery Logic Adiabatic Circuits, William Morell

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Power consumption has been an ever-present concern since the dawn of electronic computing. Every operation that a device performs consumes some amount of energy and as the demand for computation increases, both in scale and ubiquity, reducing this energy loss becomes more important. While modern devices are orders of magnitude more efficient than their ancestors on a per-operation basis, they are increasingly used in more resource constrained applications. Tiny, Internet of Things (IoT) machines are prevalent these days and demanded to perform data collection and analysis at all hours of the day for days at a time on small battery. …

Optimising The Fashion E-Commerce Journey: A Data-Driven Approach To Customer Retention, Hasna Luthfiana Fadhila, Vynska Amalia Permadi, Sylvert Prian Tahalea

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

A fashion e-commerce company offers a wide range of products from domestic and international brands that are popular with young people. However, there has been an increase in non-organically acquired customers, many of whom do not return to make repeat purchases. This has led to a higher customer churn rate, with a significant proportion of non-organically sourced customers failing to become repeat purchasers. Consequently, a churn analysis and prediction model were developed to address this issue. This paper employs the Recency, Frequency, and Monetary (RFM) framework for churn analysis and prediction. The framework is underpinned by three key dimensions: last …

The model applies data augmentation, rotation, cropping, and Bayesian …

Disturbance Observer-Based Control For Pmsg-Based Wind Turbiner Considering Unbalanced Grid Conditions, Moayad Alanani Maher Apr 2024

Disturbance Observer-Based Control For Pmsg-Based Wind Turbiner Considering Unbalanced Grid Conditions, Moayad Alanani Maher

Theses

A typical Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG)-based wind turbine system consists of an electrical generator, Machine-Side Converter (MSC), Grid-Side Converter (GSC), dc-link capacitor, and a passive filter such as L filter or LCL filter to connect the GSC to the host grid. When the wind turbine operates under unbalanced grid voltages, a negative sequence component is introduced to the system. This negative sequence voltage can pose challenges for classical controllers to ensure an efficient control of the PMSG-based wind turbine system. On one hand, when the control objective is to ensure injecting sinusoidal and balanced three-phase currents to the grid, …

Transformer-Based Deep Learning Model For Sign Language Recognition, Ganzorig Batnasan

Theses

Sign language recognition research aims to develop systems and tools that can interpret and translate sign language into text or spoken language. During the past two decades, the challenges faced in this domain are multifaceted. The first and foremost challenge is the complexity of sign language, which includes intricate hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements. Recognizing and interpreting these components accurately is challenging. The second challenge is variability among different regions and communities, leading to variations in signs and gestures. This variability poses a challenge for developing universal recognition systems.
Limited data is another challenge which makes it difficult …

This article presents some selected examples of nanopackaging, i.e., the application of nanotechnologies, (nanoparticles, carbon …

Toward Electrical Impedance Sensing Surgical Drill For Tissue Boundary Detection, Harshavardhan Devaraj Apr 2024

Toward Electrical Impedance Sensing Surgical Drill For Tissue Boundary Detection, Harshavardhan Devaraj

Dartmouth College Ph.D Dissertations

Dental implantation is an increasingly common procedure used to treat missing teeth. However, surgical drilling to place the implant poses a high risk of injury to critical anatomy, such as inferior alveolar nerve injury or maxillary sinus perforation. A real-time surgical feedback system sensing proximity of these critical anatomy could reduce injury risks. This dissertation investigates the development of such a system that incorporates an electrical impedance sensor into the tip of a surgical drill.

A simulation framework based on finite element method (FEM) was developed to optimize the sensor as it approached a high impedance boundary. The accuracy of …

Alkaline polymer electrolyte (APE) is the core component of modern alkaline hydrogen and oxygen fuel cells, and its single ion conductor nature makes the "electrode/APE" interfaces different from the conventional "electrode/solution" interfaces in terms of ion distribution, electrical double layer structure and polarization behavior. Due to the complexity of the APE and the associated solid-solid interfaces, fundamental investigations are challenging and deeper understanding of the structures and properties of such interfaces is in the infant stage. In this work, we aim to investigate the double layer structure from the aspects of differential capacitance curve and potential of zero charge (PZC) …
