The Process Of Social Media Migration Among Young Professionals: A Grounded Theory, Maria Hermosa, Frauke Hachtmann

The purpose of this study was to develop a theory that explains the process of social media migration among young professionals. The theoretical propositions that emerged from this qualitative study explain how different causal, intervening, and contextual conditions interact with and affect the phenomenon of social media migration. Internal and external pressures have an effect on young professionals’ decision to join new social media sites while abandoning others. Intervening and contextual conditions provide specific circumstances in which social media migration might occur. Integrating useful and organizational features to ease the use of social networks were important strategies in the process …

How Kaizen Group Leader Selection Affects Group Participation, M. Joleen Byerline

Organizational communication research indicates group member participation increases as the legitimate power differences among group members decreases. Lean principles and practices indicate Kaizen Event members will contribute regardless of legitimate power levels, due to member training, education, and the Lean team-oriented culture. Further study is needed to determine if Lean culture and training maximize group member contribution, or if legitimate power levels in Lean environments manipulate participation. Derailed: Communicating Singapore’S Mass Transit Crises [Case Study], Pang, A.

The case: In December 2011, one of Singapore’s main mass transit rail lines came to a standstill for several hours on two separate days. While occasional public transport breakdowns are unavoidable, the rail operator came under intense criticism for its poor handling of the incidents, including its failure in crisis communication. Its value: This case can be used to illustrate a number of perspectives and concepts from the literature on crisis and organisational communication. Of particular contemporary interest is what the case shows about how communication technologies, including social media, should and should not be used by organisations.

With the proliferation of communication media and technologies available, it is important for teams to understand the influence of these media on the performance of their communications. The Determinants And Consequences Of Ceo Cheap Stock In Ipos, Michael Dennis Stuart

The term "cheap stock" describes undervalued stock options granted to CEOs and other key employees prior to initial public offerings (IPOs). Pre-IPO firms have incentives to issue cheap stock as compensation because it results in lower compensation expense on the income statement and in large cash windfalls to CEOs subsequent to the IPO. Because cheap stock results in an overstatement of earnings, the Securities and Exchange Commission frequently challenges the valuations of these grants, which makes cheap stock a key accounting issue in many IPOs. Media coverage of CEOs has significantly increased in recent decades, and many CEOs have come to accept that interacting with a dispersed audience via the media has become a leadership activity. However, the discourse about leadership communication is almost exclusively linked to growth. Very little is known about the presentation of CEOs in the media when their corporations are shrinking in value, or when the economy is in a downturn. News factor theory would suggest what the average consumer of business news already suspects: during an economic downturn, more CEOs become harbingers of negative corporate news and the personification of …
