Midwest Business Librarian Summit (MBLS)
The development of visual literacy skills is increasingly important for business students graduating into today's visually-driven business environment. Visual literacy (VL) encompasses the skills needed to find, interpret, use, create, and ethically engage with visual information (ACRL, 2022). Within a business context, VL skills allow students to enhance their presentations, communicate their messages effectively, visualize complex information or data into succinct visual representations, and tell compelling stories. Further, well-developed visuals can help bridge language barriers when communicating with stakeholders worldwide (Sweeny & Hughes, 2017). Despite the apparent benefits of these VL competencies, business students may need more direct training and …

A Concept Paper On Networks Of Excellence For Research And Education, Suresh V. Garimella, David B. Janes, Anne Slaughter Andrew

Research and education ecosystems, foundational components of knowledge-based economies, are relatively underdeveloped in Latin America. The entire ecosystem of a research university — including resources, corporate partnerships, and research — must capitalize on a symbiosis between the research, education and commercialization missions. A university cannot transform unilaterally nor can universities sustain the required transformation without government and industry participation. Initiatives to accelerate the development of research university ecosystems are critical for the realization of knowledge-based economies and resilient civil societies.
To accelerate the development of research and education ecosystems across the Americas, the authors propose to establish “Networks of Excellence” …

Annual Reports To Shareholders: Historical Collections In Libraries, Judith M. Nixon
Libraries Research Publications
The purpose of this article is to describe the scope and depth of the historic corporate annual report collections in twelve academic/research libraries in North America. For many decades, a few major academic business libraries have been collecting and preserving corporate Annual Reports (ARS), the reports sent to shareholders documenting the financial status and future plans of the company. Today these historic collections provide more than a record of the companies’ finances; they provide a glimpse into the social and cultural thoughts from the past and the corporate stories of individual companies. Digitization of these reports has only just begun; …
