ETSU News
The game day experience inside East Tennessee State University’s newer sports venues, such as William B. Greene Jr. Stadium for football, Thomas Stadium for baseball and Summers-Taylor Stadium for men’s and women’s soccer, is certainly exciting for Buccaneer fans, with lots of great amenities. Same with Johnson City’s Freedom Hall Civic Center for men’s basketball.
But fans of women’s basketball and volleyball find the “friendly confines” of the historic Brooks Gym a great place to take in a game, too.
One such fan is Janet Stork.
Consider Stork a “superfan.” She attends every game she can for various men’s and …

Responsibility Boundaries And The Governance Of Global Value Chains: The Interplay Of Efficiency, Ethical, And Institutional Pressures In Global Strategy, Thomas Deberge
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Research Summary
I explore the relationship of firm global strategy and global value chain (GVC) governance, within a context of expanding responsibility boundaries for unethical practices in the value chain. Specifically, focusing on the tantalum supply chain within the digital electronics GVC, I conduct a case-based process study that contextualizes the different strategic responses of three manufacturers of tantalum capacitors when faced with similar efficiency, ethical, and institutional pressures. Integrating the GVC and global strategy literatures, I find that structural inertia in GVCs limits the efficacy of strategies that preserve, rather than alter, the governance structure, instead requiring a strategic …

Mapuche Women's Cooperative And Sustainable Development, Peter Kent
Peace and Conflict Studies Journal Conference
This study looks at a Mapuche cooperative (Chol-Chol) in southern Chile. The review focuses on how this woman owned and run enterprise overcomes primarily culturally ingrained indigenous biases, and how these women deal with a dominant Euro-centric culture that refuses to acknowledge them both as a distinct group within Chile and as capable and contributing members of the Chilean economy.
The study follows two specific members of the cooperative. One is the Executive Director of the organization, charged with oversight of the cooperative members, from financial accountability to negotiations, within the group and outside of the group with local municipal …

Journal of Tourism Insights
The influence of brand image on consumer behavior is widely recognized. It affects how tourists make pre-purchase decisions, making destinations with more substantial images more likely to be chosen. Additionally, the destination needs a strong brand image to maintain its position in the competitive business world. Product differentiation is crucial because Socotra Island, the research area, has a unique landscape, botanical, marine, and bird biodiversity, and cultural and heritage features and offers tremendously attractive destinations. Purposive random sampling was used to gather data from 410 international tourists at the sample locations for this study, which intends to examine how tourists …

The promotion of rural tourism has been suggested as a way to promote local economic, social, and cultural renewal. The importance of entrepreneurship in the tourism sector is growing. Since entrepreneurs may be vital in the growth of rural communities, especially those in less industrialized regions, they are frequently confronted with a variety of social issues. Finding new sources of revenue and employment possibilities for them is essential. There is no doubt that entrepreneurial businesses help the host community and the nation's economy. Kashmir's rural areas have certain unique characteristics that can be turned into enticing tourist destinations. This study …

Purpose
This study investigates the mediating role of consumer engagement (CE) in the relationship between perceived behavioral control (PBC) and purchase intent and the moderating role of perceived safety in the relationship between PBC and CE in the self-driving car (SDC) context.
Design/methodology/approach
To test the model, a sample of 368 consumers was deployed using partial least-squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Brands In The Metaverse: An Examination & Taxonomy Of Marketing Strategy, Paige L. Bridges
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There are many definitions of the Metaverse depending on the context. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the Metaverse as a (hypothetical) virtual reality environment in which users interact with one another's avatars and their surroundings in an immersive way, sometimes posited as a potential extension of or replacement for the Internet, World Wide Web, and social media (Lea & Bradbery, 2020). Corporations have increasingly started to launch brand marketing in the Metaverse to capitalize on its 400 million monthly active users and estimated value of approximately $5 trillion by 2030 (McKinsey, 2022). As an emerging area, research on the Metaverse …

Breaking The Transactional Mindset: A New Path For Healthcare Leadership Built On A Commitment To Human Experience, Kirsten Krull, Jerry Mansfield, Jennifer Gentry, Karen Grimley, Barbara Jacobs, Jason Wolf
Patient Experience Journal
Numerous health care publications have focused on the compelling need to improve patient experience and the associated improvements necessary to address workforce well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated and illuminated long-standing problems in health care including workforce shortages, inequity in health care delivery outcomes, care provider burnout, and overall societal structural racism.1,2 The Beryl Institute’s Nursing Executive Council (NEC) manuscript Rebuilding a Foundation of Trust: A Call to Action in Creating a Safe Environment for Everyone3 focused on actions and behaviours to heal relationships and build trust between care providers and leaders with commitments to safety, empathy, shared decision …

This issue closes the first decade of Patient Experience Journal’s (PXJ) contribution to evidence and innovation, to sharing stories and research, to elevating the conversation and pushing the boundaries of the experience movement. We have never hesitated to nudge at the status quo or to respond with agility to the challenging moments we have faced. We have welcomed diverse voices as contributors, and we have seen an even more diverse readership. In reviewing the pages of PXJ over the last decade, we see a true evolution of the experience movement itself. The words of our contributors have provided a lens …
The Relationship Between Startups’ Early Adoption Of Digital Platforms And Startups’ Pre-Money Valuation, Bader Hassan Faqeeh
The Relationship Between Startups’ Early Adoption Of Digital Platforms And Startups’ Pre-Money Valuation, Bader Hassan Faqeeh
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
The objective for this research was to explore whether there was a significant positive relationship between startups’ early adoption of the digital platforms, namely, 1) mobile application, 2) a premium domain name website, and 3) the existence of active startup social media accounts, and startups’ pre-money valuation. To achieve this objective, this research used a relatively novel method in entrepreneurial research to collect data, whereby LinkedIn’s Sales Navigator was used along with an automation tool in order to send hundreds of automated connection and message requests to investors on LinkedIn who were sent a copy of the survey questions along …

The Future Of Last Mile Delivery: What Consumers Are Willing To Sacrifice To Make Sustainable Delivery Decisions, Lauren Lehoullier
The Future Of Last Mile Delivery: What Consumers Are Willing To Sacrifice To Make Sustainable Delivery Decisions, Lauren Lehoullier
Honors Projects in Global Supply Chain Management
The very last step in the supply chain is the final delivery of the good to the customer or consumer. However, the complexity of the geographic dispersion of customers and lack of logistical efficiency in this stage makes it the most expensive and the most polluting to the environment. Furthered by the rise in e-commerce and the rapid changing of our global climate, the future of last-mile delivery rests in the perceptions and behaviors of consumers. This paper aims to identify the current thoughts and feelings of consumers to determine the feasibility of future sustainable last-mile delivery while seeking to …

Is Anti-Herding Always A Smart Choice? Evidence From Mutual Funds, John Byong-Tek Lee, Jun Ma, Dimitris Margaritis, Wanyi Yang
Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics
Recent empirical studies document a negative relation between herding behaviour and the skill of mutual fund managers. We explore this relationship further by focusing on fund managers' contrarian buy and sell behaviour against the market. Our study reveals an asymmetry in the performance of mutual funds with contrarian buy behaviour and contrarian sell behaviour. The contrarian-buy behaviour reflects skill by positively predicting the cross-section of next period's mutual fund returns, while the contrarian-sell behaviour reflects a lack of skill associated with a negative prediction. These findings are robust to various risk-adjusted performance measures. Contrarian-buy funds outperform momentum-buy funds by 3% …
