The Model Rules of Professional Conduct seek to police the conduct of attorneys. Each jurisdiction adopts its own rules of professional conduct to apply to the attorneys licensed within it. Notably, the model rules prohibit any sexual relationship between the attorney and client unless that relationship precedes the attorney-client relationship. Traditionally, defining a "sexual relationship" was simple, particularly if the attorney and client engaged in sexual intercourse. The introduction of dating apps, however, has blurred the line.

In the aftermath of the sub-prime mortgage bubble, the Federal Reserve implemented large scale asset purchase (LSAP) programmes that aimed to increase bank liquidity and lending. The excess liquidity created by quantitative easing (QE) in turn may have stimulated bank risktaking in search of higher profits. Using comprehensive data on balance sheets, risk measures, and daily market returns in the U.S., we investigate the link between QE, bank risk-taking, profitability, and systemic risk. We find that, particularly during the third round of QE, banks that were more exposed to the unconventional monetary policy increased their risk-taking behaviour and profitability. However, …

Many faculty are well intentioned and desire to improve the student experience but may not know where to start. We introduce a pathway of reflection, education, and action that we believe can help faculty get started on this process. Reflection is the process of assessing one’s own identity, influences, biases, and personal experiences with diversity and privilege. Both accounting firms and regulators recognize the importance of human capital in the audit function, yet we know little about whether and how the level of professionally qual-ified human capital varies across offices of an audit firm and whether it is associated with audit quality. In this paper, we examine the association between office professionally qualified human capital and audit quality. Using hand-collected data on Big 4 audit firm office CPA levels from 30 U.S. cities, we find that offices with relatively more professionally qual-ified human capital deliver higher quality audits, with this benefit being more pronounced for audits performed …

The opioid epidemic in West Virginia is a complex interplay of factors, including poverty, low education, and high unemployment rates, which contribute to higher rates of substance use and opioid-related deaths. The number of people injecting drugs has risen from 36% in 2005 to 54% in 2015. WV recorded 871 overdose deaths from all drugs in 2019 with 76.8% involving at least one opioid. Purpose – To understand how narratives used by entrepreneurial support organizations (ESOs) in Detroit’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem shape transitional entrepreneurs’ social reality. We offer theoretical and practical insights to elicit critical support, formulate policies and programs and guide ongoing empirical examination of transitional entrepreneurship.

We investigate correlations among six primary asset classes from January 1982 to December 2022. Our analysis extends existing literature, on the well-researched stock-bond correlation (SBC), by encompassing 14 supplementary asset class dyads and four correlational regimes. We challenge the archetype of correlational time-invariance that underlies buy-and-hold asset allocation strategies by implementing structural break tests and an innovative Wavelet Coherence (WC) methodology, where our findings reveal temporal instability. Through a multi-method statistical approach, we present robust and persuasive evidence of macroeconomic factors as determinants of temporal change. This study seeks to identify challenges and opportunities for expanding the diversity of hotel ownership. A qualitative review of published academic literature, hotel brand and industry-published articles, and other publicly available information, combined with interviews with hotel industry executives and association executives, focuses on diverse segments of hotel ownership and the current state of ownership diversity initiatives and challenges.
