East Tennessee State University assistant professor Dr. Kara Boynewicz has been awarded the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy Dissertation Award for her research of motor development and neurobehavior in infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome.

Boynewicz studied hospitalized infants for the first two weeks of their life. Her research uses standardized outcome measures to determine the effects of prenatal opiate use on newborns to better understand early brain development for early identification of developmental delays.

Background: Interpersonal primary care continuity or chronic condition continuity (CCC) is associated with improved health outcomes. Ambulatory care-sensitive conditions (ACSC) are best managed in a primary care setting, and chronic ACSC (CACSC) require management over time. However, current measures do not measure continuity for specific conditions or the impact of continuity for chronic conditions on health outcomes. The purpose of this study was to design a novel measure of CCC for CACSC in primary care and determine its association with health care utilization. Recent work on the history of capitalism documents the key role that racial exploitation played in the launch of the global cotton economy and the construction of the transcontinental railroad. But racial exploitation is not a thing of the past. Drawing on three case studies, this Paper argues that some of our most celebrated innovations in the digital economy have gotten off the ground by racially exploiting workers of color, paying them less than the marginal revenue product of their labor for their essential contributions. Innovative biotechnology firms (hereafter, biotechs or biotech firms) consider drug development alliances with incumbent pharmaceutical firms (hereafter, pharmas or pharma firms) as a means to access complementary commercialization capabilities, enhance their managerial skillset through close interactions, and maintain financial stability. However, biotechs face challenges in designing and developing alliance contracts that (a) enable them to retain and refine valuable alliance assets and (b) ensure that the alliance makes tangible scientific progress. Research has documented numerous benefits of proactive personality for employees’ job outcomes. However, the success of proactive employees largely depends on their leaders’ empowerment. Extant research has focused on the bright side of proactive personality for inducing empowerment, without considering its risks. We thus have an incomplete understanding of the effects of employees’ proactive personality on empowering leadership. Despite the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) growing emphasis on data analytics in recent years, there is scant research about whether the investment in data analytics accomplishes its objective of enhancing enforcement efficiency. This study examines the effects of the SEC regional offices’ use of data analytics on their investigation outcomes. The utilization of data analytics reduces information processing costs, thereby streamlining the enforcement process as a whole. This dissertation aims to enrich the research in this area by analysing the impact of the characteristics of buyers, sellers, and products in second-hand markets on consumer purchasing intentions and behaviours.
