JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University has received the “Voter Friendly Campus” designation for the fourth consecutive term.

The designation, first secured by ETSU in 2017, is given by Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. This year, the initiative recognized 258 campuses in 38 states as being institutions that have planned and implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2022 elections and in coming years.

Ballad Health and East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy are hosting the inaugural conference for the Center for Pharmacy Education, Advocacy and Outreach on May 8 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tennessee.

The free event, aimed at pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, will focus primarily on the topics of substance use disorder (SUD) and the opioid epidemic. Continuing education credit is also being offered for each presentation during the program.

The ETSU Department of Music announces that Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster William Shaub has been named co-director of the ETSU Chamber Music Festival. 

  

After two seasons of the festival that have demonstrated “exceptional success” in drawing talented students and renowned faculty, organizers said, Shaub will replace Dr. Sean Hawthorne, who helped found the festival with Dr. David Kovac in 2019. The move is designed to help propel the Chamber Music Festival to even greater national recognition.

After weeks of working with sources covering over a century of the area’s past, East Tennessee State University students will present their research on the history of Johnson City’s Black community.

Tourism, Mapping, Retail And Recreational Trails: A Case Study Of Connectivity Between Trails And Adjacent Downtowns In Anniston, Alabama, Usa, Jennifer Green

This study examines the estimated increase in economic impact on a geography’s local economy by creating cross-marketing efforts between expanding an established outdoor recreation trail to a closely located city downtown commerce district. This research will analyze the resulting potential rise in sales/lodging tax revenues for that city by mapping the trail and downtown district, and cross-marketing the other to users of both or either venue. Potential increase in economic impact will be estimated utilizing IMPLAN methodology by assessing the economic impact on the local economy that a percentage range of increased spending resulting from this cross-marketing effort could generate.

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) Teaching Curation Project aims to highlight and summarize research within the association that focuses on the major courses taught in Information Systems (IS) programs. The present literature review is a companion to a curation website specific to the introductory course in IS. In this review, we identify three major themes that pervade this literature: IS program enrollment, pedagogy, and curriculum. This dissertation aims to investigate the relationship between CEO humility and firm resilience, and further tackle the underlying mechanism behind the relationship. Based on upper echelons theory, this dissertation proposes that CEO humility promotes firm resilience, and the positive influence is mediated by stakeholder relationship capability. Moreover, competitive uncertainty and CEO work experience variety positively moderate the connection between CEO humility and stakeholder relationship capability. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) have long proven their worth as liquid securities that give investors access to many real estate asset classes. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (“DAOs”) are one of several blockchain real estate innovations seeking to provide a new path to those searching to invest in real estate. While the success of the DAO model of real estate investment is far from assured, these new investment options could offer real competition to REITs one day.

The Impact Of Stakeholder Orientation On Tax Avoidance: Evidence From A Natural Experiment, Gary Chen, Ani Manakyan Mathers, Bin Wang, Xiaohong Wang

We study the effect of stakeholder orientation on corporate tax avoidance. Using the staggered passage of constituency statutes across U.S. states between 1983 and 2006, we show that greater stakeholder orientation results in increased tax avoidance. We further find greater tax avoidance among firms with limited financial resources and that employees benefit from the change. Our results are consistent with stakeholder salience theory that resource-constrained managers prioritize the claims of salient stakeholders, such as employees, at the expense of secondary stakeholders, such as the government.

A newer development in rewards programs allows consumers to donate points rather than personally receive benefits. Research on the topic is virtually absent and represents a significant opportunity for worthy causes to receive new streams of financial support. Reward programs are uniquely characterized by hierarchical or “tiered” consumer status. Social dominance orientation represents the degree to which consumers support status inequities and is highly relevant in a reward context. This individual difference characteristic is studied to gain insight into which consumers are willing to donate earned rewards and why.
