For years, the voice of the Chicana has been silenced by oppression. Anglos, Mexicans, and Chicanos have intentionally created such an oppression upon Chicanas that they were never allowed to tell stories of their own ideas, fears, and dreams. They were merely meant to be a voiceless servant to the male gender.
This master’s thesis will examine the racial and gender oppression that Chicanas Cisneros, and Julia Alvarez — focusing primarily on their attempts to establish a gender have faced over the centuries, beginning with the days of Malintzin and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, and continuing until the …

On March 13-19, 1999, the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies will revisit an important theme that emerged at the ground-breaking Crossing Borders conference. Crossing Borders '99: Latino/a and Latin American Lesbian and Gay Testimony, Autobiography, and Self-Figuration will focus on autobiographical writing, testimony, and self-figuration by Latin American and Latino/a lesbians and gay men, inviting artists and scholars from different geographical areas and diverse academic fields to share and discuss their works and lived experiences.

El Gaucho Como Personaje Historico En La Literatura Argentina, Nora M. C. De Sidoruk

The aim of this study is to analyse how three different Argentinian writers: Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, José Hernández and Ricardo Güiraldes characterise in their work the life of the Argentinian cowboy, the gaucho. Using real life models, they describe the life and personality of this countryman after the colonial times and until the first part of the twentieth century. Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811-1888), an essayist, politician and educationalist, wrote Facundo in 1845, an essay about the life of the "caudillo" (chieftain) Juan Facundo Quiroga and one of the classics of Argentinian literature. I explored the relationship between poetry and politics in Panama. Panama is a Western Hemisphere anomaly in that no other nation in the Americas has been so dominated by another as has Panama by the United States. As a result of this hegemonous relationship, Panamanians have developed an intense mistrust and hatred for the United States. This is clearly seen in their poetry. Ant-Americanism is such a pervasive element in Latin America that we can go so far as to say that it is the defining factor of their national identity. In her essay "La Cocina de la escritura," published in 1982, Rosario Ferré describes her authorial project, her literary influences and her motivations for writing fiction. As part of this short autobiographical essay, she discusses the moment she embarked upon her career as a writer and the way she selected her initial literary theme.
