Most modern discussions of the liberal arts curriculum of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries focus their attention rather narrowly on the seven arts subsumed under the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) and quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy).
