การศึกษาขนบการตั้งชื่อท่าไม้ตายในมังงะฉบับภาษาญี่ปุ่นและฉบับแปลภาษาไทย, ศุภิสรา สิทธิเวช

งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาการตั้งชื่อท่าไม้ตายที่พบในหนังสือการ์ตูนหรือมังงะทั้งในฉบับภาษาญี่ปุ่นและฉบับแปลภาษาไทยว่ามีขนบการตั้งชื่ออย่างไร และเมื่อแปลเป็นภาษาไทยแล้วจะมีการใช้ขนบหรือมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างไรบ้าง ผู้วิจัยรวบรวมกับศึกษาท่าไม้ตายในมังงะภาษาญี่ปุ่นจำนวน 16 เรื่อง และศึกษาฉบับแปลภาษาไทยจำนวน 10 เรื่อง รวมทั้งหมด 1,435 ท่าในฉบับภาษาญี่ปุ่น และ 636 ท่าในฉบับภาษาไทย และได้ทำการวิเคราะห์ประเด็นหลักทั้งสองภาษาโดยรวมจำนวน 8 ประเด็นได้แก่ 1) จำนวนคำ 2) วลีชื่อเฉพาะ 3) หน่วยเสียงพยางค์ 4) รูปเขียนตัวอักษร 5) ตัวอักษรรูบิ (ルビ) 6) ภาพพื้นหลังกับเครื่องหมาย 7) การใช้ภาษาบาลี - สันสกฤตในชื่อภาษาไทย 8) กลวิธีการแปลชื่อท่าไม้ตาย นอกจากนี้ผู้วิจัยศึกษาว่าขนบการตั้งชื่อท่าไม้ตายมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงตามกาลเวลาหรือไม่ด้วย ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) จำนวนคำในท่าไม้ตายภาษาญี่ปุ่นจะนิยมการใช้ 2 คำ เพื่อความกระชับ ในขณะที่ชื่อภาษาไทยจะมีการใช้จำนวนคำที่ยาวกว่า 2) วลีชื่อเฉพาะในท่าไม้ตายภาษาญี่ปุ่นนิยมใช้คำนามกับคำนาม ในขณะที่ภาษาไทยนิยมใช้คำกริยากับคำนามมากกว่าเพื่อขายความให้คนไทยเข้าใจ 3) หน่วยเสียงพยางค์ของทั้งสองภาษานิยมการใช้ 10 พยางค์ขึ้นไป แต่ฉบับภาษาไทยจะนิยมการใช้ 5-6 พยางค์ในแต่ละเรื่องมากกว่า 4) ชื่อท่าไม้ตายภาษาญี่ปุ่นนิยมตัวอักษรคันจิมากที่สุด รองลงมาคือคาตากานะและฮิรางานะกับคันจิ 5) ตัวอักษรรูบินิยมการใช้ตัวอักษรฮิรางานะเพื่อบอกวิธีอ่านทั่วไปมากกว่า 6) ภาพพื้นหลังกับเครื่องหมายมีความสัมพันธ์กับชื่อท่าไม้ตาย และการใช้เครื่องหมายก็มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงตามกาลเวลาด้วย 7) ภาษาบาลี-สันสกฤตพบการนิยมใช้ในชื่อของท่าไม้ตายฉบับแปล และการเลือกใช้จะขึ้นกับรูปแบบการแปลของผู้แปลแต่ละคนหรือสำนักพิมพ์นั้นๆ 8) กลวิธีการแปลนิยมการแปลแบบตรงตัวมากที่สุด นอกจากนี้ยังพบการแปลที่สร้างคำศัพท์ใหม่โดยอิงจากภาพพื้นหลังหรือบริบทของเนื้อเรื่องด้วย 9) ท่าไม้ตายในช่วงยุคค.ศ. 1980 จะเน้นรูปภาพที่แสดงถึงการตะโกนเสียงดังมากกว่า และท่าไม้ตายที่มีขนาดสั้น อย่างไรก็ตามท่าไม้ตายในยุคค.ศ. 2000 นั้นนิยมการใช้คำบรรยายมากกว่า และชื่อท่าไม้ตายมีความยาวมากขึ้นด้วย

Located in Lichtenberg, Berlin (part of the former borough of Hohenschönhausen), Gedenkstätte Berlin-Hohenschönhausen stands today as a memorial for the thousands who were killed and imprisoned there, from its construction in 1939 until its closure in 1990. This paper will trace the evolution of Hohenschönhausen from a physical space of confinement, to a sophisticated psychological apparatus designed to exert control over its political prisoners through the development of “Operative Psychology” (OP). This study used a survey to investigate self-study and university-enrolled Chinese learners’ habits in studying Chinese vocabulary in order to determine what study methods influence a.) learners’ confidence in learning Chinese vocabulary and b.) what aspects of Chinese vocabulary they consider easy or difficult. We were particularly interested in seeing what the data had to say about students’ attitudes towards characters and the written language, given that the field of Chinese language pedagogy is known for a stronger focus on the written language as opposed to the spoken language. Where many define nihilism as the belief that life and all moral principles are meaningless, the French philosopher, Michel Onfray, expounds on this classic definition and argues that true nihilism is the refusal to accept the world as it is. Unlike monotheistic religions and totalitarian regimes that urge their followers to practice asceticism now to attain happiness in the future, Onfray believes that hedonistic pleasure can be found when the individual rediscovers autonomy and returns to an atomistic worldview that is immersed in the imminent.

This article analyzes Luiz Roberto Salinas Fortes’ Retrato calado (Silent Portrait) published in 1988, considering the theoretical discussions on testimonio's epistemology—addressing the challenge of narrating trauma and the risk of stylization. It compares Fortes' memoir with Fernando Gabeira's O que é isso, companheiro? (What's This, Comrade?) from 1979, examining diverse approaches to capturing historical trauma through literature and its impact on collective memory about Brazilian Dictatorship (1964-1985).

This paper highlights the significance of physical proximity and the potentiality of socio-spatial situations as tools to enrich study abroad programs. Particular attention is given to street art and the public space. While, studying on-site can be somewhat uncomfortable, it can potentially prompt unique reflections, enhance student’s learning and encourage introspection. Being on-site provides the opportunity to come into contact and to connect with the physical objects and their environment. It enables a multisensory and immersive embodied experience. Leveraging art for communicative educational activities can facilitate a participatory experience, promote critical thinking and enhance cultural understanding.

Abstract: Many French fantastic texts from the nineteenth century employ the use of a femme-fatale to highlight and underscore the dangers inherit with the female figure. This can be seen in vampires, ghosts, fairies, and other supernatural phenomena wherein a female character takes on incredible attributes. Propser Mérimée’s Lokis offers readers a tale wherein those same female figures are given traits that resemble the traditional femme-fatale, but in doing so they highlight the deadly nature of the titular half-man/half-bear creature. O presente trabalho analisa a construção da Guerra Civil nos cantos II e IV da Farsália, do poeta Lucano, por meio da caracterização e dos discursos de duas personagens: a mãe e o soldado. Em uma épica em que o confronto entre membros de um mesmo povo é central, defendemos que Lucano, ao apresentar essas duas personagens, apresenta dois pontos de vista romanos em relação a dinâmica da guerra. Para essa análise, tomamos como base a concepção de Dominique Maingueneau (1995, 2008) de ethos e elementos retóricos da Antiguidade apresentados, em especial, na Institutio Oratoria, de Quintiliano.

This paper seeks to track how the ideas of modernist philosophers may have laid the fundamental political and moral assumptions that allowed the Holocaust to occur. The ecumenical activities and contacts between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Protestant churches in the 17th century were largely shaped by two remarkable figures of the Orthodox Church–the Patriarch of Constantinople Cyril Lucaris and Metrophanes Kritopoulos, who later became the Patriarch of Alexandria. Their sincere desire for contact with Protestant theologians, along with their commitment to open dialogue and cooperation was the most important factor in Orthodox-Protestant relations in that era. In a series of drawings completed in 1805, artist Henry Fuseli illustrated Kriemhild, the female protagonist of the medieval German epic The Niebelungenlied. Around the same time period, Fuseli was also creating highly sexualized illustrations of courtesans. While other scholars have proposed that Fuseli’s sketches of courtesans show that he held a positive view of women, this essay compares his images of Kriemhild and courtesans to suggest that Fuseli saw Kriemhild a symbol of righteous fury, loyalty and justice, and as a moral opposite to contemporary sex workers. Fuseli’s idealization of Kriemhild combined with his posthumously published lectures reveal …

Textbooks have been a staple in many world language (WL) programs for decades. But how do current higher education efforts to create more diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning spaces affect the use of commercial textbooks in WL classes? This report presents how a small German program at a large metropolitan university in the Southern United States redeveloped its program goals and materials to create engaging communities, address matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and adjust program practices based on constant evaluation. This thesis examines the perspective of German-Americans through the lens of their German-Language newspapers during two significant moments in history when minority groups faced discrimination: anti-German Sentiment of World War I and the Red Summer of 1919, marked by violence against Black Americans. German-Americans were subjected to suspicion and hostility, being viewed as disloyal to the United States. Consequently, they experienced oppressive measures such as language laws, hate crimes, and attempts to completely erase the German language and culture within the United States. This thesis explores the operation of the tragic in Thomas Hardy’s The Return of the Native by taking as a starting point the formalist approach to the genre of tragedy, before extending its definition to encompass the key concept of tragic conflict. This thesis argues that Hardy’s tragic vision takes for object human history, and especially the effects of new, unveiled knowledge on the human psyche, thus locating the root cause of tragedy in these contingencies. The three respective texts, the Old English poem Beowulf, the Old Norse The Saga of the Volsungs, and the Middle High German text Nibelungenlied, feature female characters who fulfill the avenging woman archetype. In each of the three works, the female character uses unfeminine strength or cunning to exact vengeance for being wronged. In Beowulf, the avenging woman takes the form of Grendel’s mother, whose descriptions of monstrosity are owed to her acts of bloodshed to avenge the death of her son. This chapter analyzes the postcolonial discourse in Italy, through the voice of the novelist and playwright Enrico Pea (1881–1958). Living outside of Italy, Pea gained a unique awareness of the notion of multi-ethnic societies, of the concepts of nationality, borders, and boundaries. Alexandria, Egypt, is Pea’s referential space. It is a center, and at the same time, a marginal place. Alexandrea ad Egyptum, that is, the door to Egypt, as it was known in antiquity, this city brought together Arab and European artistic experiences that converged on, and were triggered by, its multicultural profile. In this dissertation, I discuss the various regional Latin lyric diction practices in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria and the extent to which Germanic Latin diction (also termed German Latin diction), Italianate Latin diction, and Roman Latin diction are performed beginning circa 1950 until 2022. I argue that Germanic Latin lyric diction is not standardized throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. This thesis explores how several of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales, “Little Snow-white and the seven dwarfs,” “The Juniper Tree,” and “Cinderella” exhibit patriarchal expectations of women that fairy tale protagonists strive to uphold, while female villains feel driven to violence and artifice because of their inability to fit into this role. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published these stories in nineteenth-century Germany, which was predominantly Protestant and held the belief that women should be nurturing homemakers who took care of their husbands and children.
