Copyright is one form of legal protection for intellectual works, occupying an important position within the intellectual property law system. The Copyright Law explicitly grants exclusive rights to creators, encompassing both moral rights and economic rights. Economic rights, as stipulated in Article 9 paragraph (1), allow creators to obtain economic benefits from their works, ranging from publication, reproduction, distribution, performance, to communication to the public. This provision shows that creators hold a primary position as legal subjects entitled to protection, while also serving as central actors in the creative industry ecosystem. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) depend on accurate traffic prediction to support congestion management, infrastructure planning, and real-time operational decisions. Despite substantial progress in data-driven forecasting, several challenges continue to limit practical deployment: traffic data is distributed across independent regional authorities, making centralized aggregation infeasible, standard federated aggregation strategies ignore traffic-specific characteristics that meaningfully affect model quality, and existing models produce only numerical outputs without interpretable reasoning that urban planners can act upon. This thesis addresses these challenges through four contributions that collectively advance privacy-preserving, explainable, and scalable traffic forecasting.

This thesis traces one of the largest architectural typologies in Cairo: the wikāla, a type of urban caravanserai unique to Egypt. Estimated to have reached more than five hundred buildings by the 18th century, the wikāla was the building of choice for most patrons in Ottoman Cairo. This study initially investigates the evolution of commercial architecture within the Islamic city. It then explores the defining architectural features of Cairene wikālas built between the 16th and 18th centuries—their plans, decorative/iconographic programs, and urban distribution—based on waqfiyyas, chronicles, travelers’ accounts, and photographic archives. The built environment plays a crucial role in global sustainability efforts. Buildings, infrastructure, and cities consume large amounts of energy and materials that shape social behavior, and lock in environmental impacts. Over the past two decades, research has produced a wide range of technical solutions to reduce these impacts. Renewable energy systems, energy-efficient buildings, alternative construction materials, and new construction methods are no longer experimental concepts. Construction, mining, and manufacturing are the most significant contributors to South Africa's GDP. While manufacturing and other industries utilise advanced technologies to enhance productivity, he construction industry continues to lag behind in technological adoption. This study examines the barriers that hinder the South African construction industry from leveraging the benefits of modular construction technologies (MCT). The study employed a quantitative research method, using closed-ended questions to collect data. The questionnaires were emailed to South African construction industry professionals selected through a combination of purposive and convenience sampling. Urban compactness has traditionally been measured through density, with population per area used as a core indicator of urban form. However, this method creates a limited view of what compactness means. Research shows that a compact city is not always a high-density city, and that increasing density does not automatically result in compact development. Compactness also involves the shape and structure of urban footprints, which influence how land is used and how a city functions. Urban areas in Indonesia, particularly the Greater Jakarta metropolitan region (Jabodetabek), are increasingly experiencing the adverse effects of climate change, such as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon. Rapid urbanization has contributed significantly to rising greenhouse gas emissions and deteriorating environmental quality. Urban forests are one of the key solutions to mitigate these impacts; however, their spatial distribution in Jabodetabek remains suboptimal and poorly connected. Shading devices are essential for reducing solar radiation and cooling loads in buildings located in tropical climates. In the Jakarta region, the highest solar factor is observed on west- and east-facing facades, followed by north- and south-facing orientations. National building policy in Indonesia encourages facades to face north–south to reduce solar heat gain. This study explores horizontal static and dynamic shading devices on north-facing facades and evaluates their impact on cooling load reduction and daylight performance. A large population worldwide lives in remote rural communities without access to electricity due to the limited reach of national transmission networks. This creates significant challenges in accessing water, hindering improvements in living conditions for off-grid communities. Photovoltaic water pumping systems (PVWPSs) offer a viable solution to this issue, but their sustainability must be examined due to the unpredictable nature of solar radiation. This study aims to explore the everyday aesthetics depicted in Perfect Days, which align with traditional Japanese aesthetics, specifically wabi-sabi. Smart buildings have become a key part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by the need for efficient, sustainable, and adaptive built environments. Their importance is growing alongside Indonesia’s effort to develop smart cities. This study compares Indonesia’s national smart building certification system, established under Ministerial Regulation No. 10 of 2023, with two international systems: the European Union’s Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) and the SmartScore certification. The growing demand for smarter and more energy-efficient buildings has led to increasing interest in digital twin (DT) technology for building operation and management. This paper presents a DT framework developed to improve the energy performance of the Podium Office Building in Cairo Festival City, New Cairo, Egypt. A detailed EnergyPlus model, supported by Python-based tools (eppy and pyEnergyPlus), was used to test three HVAC control strategies: a baseline fixed schedule, a real-time DT-informed strategy, and a predictive optimization approach. This study introduces an operational evaluation of a deep learning–driven ionospheric modeling system tailored for Egypt, designed to overcome the limitations of conventional empirical approaches in data-sparse regions. The 3D-DNN Ion-EG model was trained on 737,110 COSMIC-2 radio occultation profiles (2020–2024), integrating spatial temporal coordinates with geophysical drivers to generate high-resolution threedimensional electron density distributions. The failure caused by punching shear is considered very dangerous because it happens suddenly. In this work, three methods are proposed to identify parameters of PI controllers used for wind energy conversion systems based on DFIG. Mathematical model of generator and grid side system is depicted. Three tuning methods; bode-plot, pole-placement, and MATLAB tuner are used for grid side and rotor side converter controllers’ design. Wind turbine system with PI controller parameters obtained using the mentioned method is investigated via MATLAB/SIMULINK under three different scenarios.
