This study sought to select the appropriate sites for the housing projects in Thailand and MalaysiaBorder Trade areas. The Modified Sieve Analysis was adopted as the instrument for searching and selecting sites. The Modified Sieve Analysis is the technique used to assess the urban expansion, which has been modified from the traditional sieve analysis by overlaying the map with its scores and calculate the total scores for selecting the suitable sites for the urban and housing development. The findings from this study help identify the suitable sites to build housing projects in the four cities - three sites for each.

This study explores the relative connections among pedestrian movement patterns, land use and street configurations by analyzing the pedestrian volume, existing land use patterns as well as the street configuration of Mymensingh. Mymensingh is a historic town in Bangladesh which was established by the British Colonists more than 200 years ago along the river Brahmaputra. The street patterns of Mymensingh was developed by the fusion of the wide streets made by British Colonists and the narrow streets made by the local inhabitants. Morgan worked up until he died, in 1970, in Louisville. Whether constructing on undeveloped land or on an existing developed site, there is a risk of encountering unexpected objects when excavating. With today’s technology in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), this risk can generally be mitigated. Using Whiting-Turner’s construction of Stanford University’s new ChEM-H & SNI Building as an example, this case study discusses the use of GPR for underground mapping, as well as various ways to implement GPR technology. This study focused on using a mapping tool, Space Syntax, to analyze the connectivity of the Cache County road network and its use to plan for bicycles. Space Syntax is being compared to another method that is already used by city planners called Bicycle Level of Service, or BLOS. The two analyses used data from Cache County and, after they were modeled and evaluated, a statistical analysis was done to see how similar one is to the other. The analyses were done at both a regional and a local scale. At both scales the analyses were not similar.

Hospital soundscapes can be difficult environments to assess acoustically due to the continuous activity within units. Routinely, patients perceive these soundscapes poorly when rating their hospital experience on HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) surveys administered after discharge. In addition, hospital staff can be negatively impacted by the acoustical environments in which they work, affecting both performance and job satisfaction. This doctoral research addressed these issues across three phases by collecting acoustical measurements within three individual hospitals, comparing results with provided patient and staff survey information, and conducting laboratory tests of hospital noise perception. Urban planners and designers believe that the built environment at various geographic scales affects pedestrian activity, but have limited empirical evidence at the street scale, to support their claims. We are just beginning to identify and measure the qualities that generate active street life, and this paper builds on the first few studies to do so. This study measures street design qualities and surrounding urban form variables for 881 block faces in Salt Lake County, Utah, and relates them to pedestrian counts.
