The concept of type and typology are at the heart of Architecture. Type is the simple act of drawing similarity and difference between a group of artifacts. Typology, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated. When one engages with typology, they are taking the information they gather from observing the artifacts and transposing it into a new context. The study of phenomenology within architecture is rooted in the emphasis of the experience of the human body. The ability to understand how a human inhabits a space is crucial; through the study of the human experience, we are able to study phenomenology within architecture. But what happens when the human body doesn’t react the way that we, as architects, desire? Since the reliance on vision is the most prominent sense for a phenomenological experience of a space, taking away that sense seems to lessen the impact. Gwen Giles park, the victim of misguided urban renewal efforts, still contains evidence of its rich ecological history and the significant role it once played in the community. The installation of a mile-long jogging track with distance markers and outdoor fitness equipment takes advantage of the altered topography and the rich bottomland soil; the legacy of a once-thriving prairie ecosystem.

Not only is this tiny insect-eating bat an intriguing create in its own right, it is also an excellent pollinator and important contributor to the urban ecosystem; its droppings function as a superior fertilizer for plant growth.

This thesis examines the genealogical origins of corporeal form in order to further understand the stake that bodies hold within the production and reception of architecture. This thesis puts forward the provocation to employ spoliation as a form of preservation and as a tool of locus making and identity mediation. This is done by syncretizing architectural artifacts and remnants from different timelines, oscillating between operations of defamiliarization and memorialization. This thesis test and explores its contention on a site of contested memory, where the idea of reclaiming cultural ownership is done through a formal, spatial and orderly spoliation. The artifacts ‘on site’ and ‘off site’ is relayed through different mediums and dimensions through parameters of resolution and assimilation.

This capstone investigates the unique relationship between Vincent Van Gogh and planting designer Piet Oudolf's vibrant use of color and contrast in their work as it relates to their perception of the landscape. The project is mainly a comparison of the two artists, exploring Van Gogh's use of complementary colors and brushstroke techniques to create vivid contrast in his renderings of agrarian landscapes, and Oudolf's parallel approach to creating painterly meadows and prairie gardens. One in three older adults in Hong Kong are caretakers for children at least one day a week, and in most cases much longer. This center is a space where grandparents can connect with their grandchildren while also building a community of peers with similar responsibilities and demands.
