Rapidly Deployed And Assembled Tensegrity System: An Augmented Design Approach, Phillip Anzalone, Stephanie Bayard, Ralph S. Steenblik
Publications and Research
The Rapidly Deployable and Assembled Tensegrity (RDAT) project enables the efficient automated design and deployment of differential-geometry tensegrity structures through computation-driven design-to-installation workflow. RDAT employs the integration of parametric and solid-modeling methods with production by streamlining computer numerically controlled manufacturing through novel detailing and production techniques to develop an efficient manufacturing and assembly system. The RDAT project emerges from the Authors' research in academia and professional practice focusing on computationally produced full-scale performative building systems and their innovative uses in the building and construction industry.
More Than Just A Glass Face: What Makes A "Green" Or "Sustainable" Building, Exactly?, Kelli Kokame
More Than Just A Glass Face: What Makes A "Green" Or "Sustainable" Building, Exactly?, Kelli Kokame
Pomona Senior Theses
Buildings are responsible for a wide range of environmental impacts. In response to this, several green building standards have been developed. Each standard uses different strategies and has different approaches to defining what features should make up a green building. This thesis uses the LEED, BREEAM, EEWH, and Living Building Challenge standards as a lens through which this question of what makes a green building is explored, with an emphasis on the distinction between greenness and sustainability in the built environment.

Tactile Libraries: Material Collections In Art, Architecture And Design, Mark Pompelia, Fleet Library, Rebecca Cooper Coleman
Faculty & Librarian Work
Collections of material samples to support teaching and research in art, architecture, and design disciplines are increasingly created and administered through academic libraries. Providing a unique and valuable hands-on and immersive experience, materials collections offer broad appeal across multiple disciplines and respond to curricular trends that emphasize critical and design thinking skills for students as future practitioners. Institutional collections may have a broad scope or a particular focus such as innovation or sustainability, the built environment, or textiles. Acquisition strategies, organizational approaches, and curricular programming must be adapted to the immediate needs of a particular school, offering opportunities for art …

Revitalizing Tio Chew Chinese Cemetery Through A Design Of An Elderly Center, Khai Sin Lee
Revitalizing Tio Chew Chinese Cemetery Through A Design Of An Elderly Center, Khai Sin Lee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Old cemeteries are often threatened by new urban development, which can result in them being closed, relocated or demolished. This thesis studies Tio Chew Cemetery in Bangkok as an alternative case based on its current unique use as a recreation area. Although without the threats of demolition, several on-site issues, both tangible and intangible, are facing Tio Chew Cemetery. To respond to these issues, a design of an elderly center is proposed to improve and revitalize the cemetery through the understanding of historical importance and contemporary design of new buildings in the old compound. This research applies a mixed methodology …
Architectural Design Factors Influencing Pedestrian Flow In Community Malls: A Case Study Of Thong Lo, Nicha Wiboonpote
Architectural Design Factors Influencing Pedestrian Flow In Community Malls: A Case Study Of Thong Lo, Nicha Wiboonpote
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
During the past decade, community malls are in the fastest growing category of Bangkok's retail industry. This growth was due to their building layouts and types of tenants which match urban lifestyles; along with Bangkok zoning restrictions for large shopping centers in residential areas. Today, the number of community malls with three or more floors (mid-rise community malls) is growing, especially in Thong Lo. This is because of the increasing land prices, where investments in community malls with one-two floors are no longer cost-effective. However, mid-rise community malls commonly have the issue of low pedestrian flows on the upper floors, …

Cmu Media Arts And Design Center, Pachara Chantanayingyong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The development of technological innovations has led to the diversification of art in terms of its form as an instrument to portray artists' ideas and creativity. Focusing on contemporary art in the twenty-first century, electronic and digital media play a dominant role as well as conventional art forms. From an architectural perspective, shifting media and form affect the design framework of art space in the twenty-first century, which requires further study for suitable criteria. In addition, existing art spaces are outnumbered by the sheer quantity of artworks due to continuous artistic production. Several art spaces counteract this problem by expanding …
