Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) effectively represents the complex distribution issues encountered by couriers, who must carefully plan a route that includes all customer addresses while minimizing the distance traveled. As the magnitude of deliveries and the range of destinations expand, the courier's responsibility becomes progressively challenging. In this particular context, the objective of our research is to expand the existing knowledge and explore the complete capabilities of Deep Q-Network (DQN) models in order to achieve the most efficient route determination. This endeavor can potentially bring about significant changes in the courier and delivery service sector. The foundation of our …

Classifying plant species within the Liliaceae and Amaryllidaceae families presents inherent challenges due to the complex genetic diversity and overlapping morphological traits among species. This study explores the difficulties in accurate classification by comparing 11 supervised learning algorithms applied to DNA barcode data, aiming to enhance the precision of species family classification in these taxonomically intricate plant families. The ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase large sub-unit (rbcL) gene, selected as a DNA barcode locus for plants, is used to represent species within the Amaryllidaceae and Liliaceae families. The experimental results demonstrate that nearly all tested models achieve accurate species classification into the appropriate …

Recurrent Session Approach To Generative Association Rule Based Recommendation, Tubagus Arief Armanda, Ire Puspa Wardhani, Tubagus M. Akhriza, Tubagus M. Adrie Admira

Knowledge Engineering and Data Science

This article introduces a generative association rule (AR)-based recommendation system (RS) using a recurrent neural network approach implemented when a user searches for an item in a browsing session. It is proposed to overcome the limitations of the traditional AR-based RS which implements query-based sessions that are not adaptive to input series, thus failing to generate recommendations. The dataset used is accurate retail transaction data from online stores in Europe. The contribution of the proposed method is a next-item prediction model using LSTM, but what is trained to develop the model is an associative rule string, not a string of …

Study Of Improved Sorting Weighting Cfar Detectors For Gaussian Environment, Souad Chabbi, Khadidja Belhi, M'Hamed Hamadouche

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

The goal of this paper is to improve the detection performance and the false alarm regulation of the conventional order statistics Constant False Alarm Rate (OS-CFAR) detectors in a non-homogeneous Gaussian environment. To this end, we design and study the New Sorting Weighting (NSW-) and the Modified Sorting Weighting (MSW-) CFAR detectors. We find closed forms of the detection ( ) and the false alarm ( ) probabilities for both detectors. Moreover, we identify the optimum pairs of weights that maximize the and ensure a constant . Finally, we prove through Monte Carlo simulations that these detectors provide better detection …

Spoken Language Processing And Modeling For Aviation Communications, Aaron Van De Brook

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

With recent advances in machine learning and deep learning technologies and the creation of larger aviation-specific corpora, applying natural language processing technologies, especially those based on transformer neural networks, to aviation communications is becoming increasingly feasible. Previous work has focused on machine learning applications to natural language processing, such as N-grams and word lattices. This thesis experiments with a process for pretraining transformer-based language models on aviation English corpora and compare the effectiveness and performance of language models transfer learned from pretrained checkpoints and those trained from their base weight initializations (trained from scratch). The results suggest that transformer language …

A Multitask Learning Framework For Pilot Decontamination In 5g Massive Mimo, Crallet Victor 2023 University of Dodoma, Dodoma

A Multitask Learning Framework For Pilot Decontamination In 5g Massive Mimo, Crallet Victor

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

Reference signals enable the acquisition of channel state information (CSI) for purposes such as channel estimation, beam selection, precoding, and symbol detection in 5G massive multiple-input multiple output (MAMIMO) systems. Eventually, as more and more users and cells are added, orthogonal reference signals become few which leads to pilot contamination. Pilot contamination limits the performance and occurs when non-orthogonal reference signals occupy time-frequency resources that are alike. Learning-based techniques have been proposed to alleviate it. However, each can only learn to perform a single task namely pilot assignment, power allocation, pilot design, or de-noising for pilot decontamination. In addition, each …

The Relaying Network In Free-Space Optical Communications Using Optical Amplifiers In Cascaded Configuration, Ucuk Darusalam, Arockia Bazil Raj, Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, Purnomo Sidi Priambodo, Eko Tjipto Rahardjo

Makara Journal of Technology

Optical relaying is the best technique to implement free-space optical (FSO) communications as a terrestrial platform. However, atmospheric turbulence (AT) limits the optical-propagation path length. In this study, the implementation of some optical amplifiers (OAs) in cascaded configuration, namely, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, semiconductor OAs, and Raman amplifiers (RAs), are investigated through simulation. This study aims to search for the maximum link distance of an optical propagation and enhance the FSO performance caused by each configuration of OAs. The optical relaying network consists of three nodes, with each node designed with a space of several kilometers under the influence of AT. …

Watch: A Distributed Clock Time Offset Estimation Tool On The Platform For Open Wireless Data-Driven Experimental Research, Cassie Jeng

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

The synchronization of the clocks used at different devices across space is of critical importance in wireless communications networks. Each device’s local clock differs slightly, affecting the times at which packets are transmitted from different nodes in the network. This thesis provides experimentation and software development on POWDER, the Platform for Open, Wireless Data-driven Experimental Research, an open wireless testbed across the University of Utah campus. We build upon Shout, a suite of Python scripts that allow devices to iteratively transmit and receive with each other and save the collected data. We introduce WATCH, an experimental method to estimate clock …
