Translating Rich Learning Assessments Into Certified Results And University Selection Devices, Gabrielle Matters 2015 ACER

Translating Rich Learning Assessments Into Certified Results And University Selection Devices, Gabrielle Matters

2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences

There are challenges in designing a set of high-quality processes in senior assessment and tertiary entrance that meet the needs of future senior secondary school students and future users of the certified results of learning assessments. Teachers need to be convinced that the richness of students’ learning assessments will not be lost or transmogrified in any new processes for grading or ranking. A set of principles should guide the design of …

The Influence Of Social, Religious, Institutional, And Cultural Factors On Postsecondary Education Transition Of Arab American And Muslim Students In Northern New Jersey, Ismael A. Khalil

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

ABSTRACT

Arab American and Muslim students’ population growth on campuses has been very rapid, which in turn has required comprehensive planning to accommodate the needs of this minority. Documented experiences of Arab American and Muslim students are underrepresented in research literature and lag behind every other minority, despite the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the United States. With all the challenges facing Arab American and Muslim students in our society, it is important to ensure their ability to sustain a positive attitude toward their religion, culture, and college education to prevent imminent problems such as cultural …

Social Justice And Technocracy: Tracing The Narratives Of Inclusive Education In The United States, Scot Danforth 2015 Chapman University

Social Justice And Technocracy: Tracing The Narratives Of Inclusive Education In The United States, Scot Danforth

Education Faculty Articles and Research

Over the past two decades, the percentage of American students with disabilities educated in general classrooms with their nondisabled peers has risen by approximately fifty percent. This gradual but steady policy shift has been driven by two distinct narratives of organisational change. The social justice narrative espouses principles of equality and caring across human differences. The narrative of technocracy creates top-down, administrative pressure through hierarchical systems based on quantitative performance data. This article examines these two primary policy narratives of inclusive education in the United States, exploring the conceptual features of each and initiating an analysis of their application in …

Principals' Outlooks On Suspension Based On Socioeconomic Status, Gender, Years Of Experience, And School Type, Jennifer Ohara 2015 Rowan University

Principals' Outlooks On Suspension Based On Socioeconomic Status, Gender, Years Of Experience, And School Type, Jennifer Ohara

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore socioeconomic status within a school district, the years of experience, school type, and gender of a principal, supervisor, or disciplinarian and the effect that these variables would have on their attitude toward suspension. According to previous research done by Dr. Russell Skiba of Indiana University, high rates of suspension have been due to racial identity. Even after controlling for poverty status, racial disparities do not disappear (Skiba, Michael, & Nardo, 2000). After wanting to understand more on suspension and its future in schools, this study explored the attitudes that principals, supervisors, and …
