Our project is a creative approach to documenting French culture through the words and experiences of its citizens. We traveled to France and interviewed many people, learning a great deal about what happiness means to people from this country. Our questions were simple: Could you tell us a story from a time in your life when you were happy? And could you tell us one from when you were sad? Overall, we found both great variety in their responses, as well as common themes throughout many of the stories they told. The most common element that the people interviewed connected …

Theatre Triad is a new approach to devising collaborative ensemble theatre starting with the three main components of Performance: Voice, Movement, and Text. These components were deconstructed and reconstructed in pairs as the basis for the devising process. The performance process begins with creating an ensemble followed by four steps: exploring the theatrical genres affiliated with the pairings of Voice and Movement, Movement and Text, Voice and Text, and completed with reintegrating all three components. This thesis describes the research and costume design and production processes for the play, Paragon Springs by Steven Dietz (1958- ), performed in the Studio Theatre on November 8-9, 11, 14-16, 18, 2012, at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska. Paragon Springs was directed by Carrie Lee Patterson. Bethany Skinner was costume designer; David Tousley was scenic designer; Michael Fortcamp was lighting designer; Alma Cerretta served as props master, and Christine Donaghy provided technical direction. 2012-2013 Exceptions Rule: No Compromise

In 1913, the audience at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées erupted in one of the most infamous riots of the 20th century. The cause? A revolution in music, namely the premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s primal Le sacre du printemps, or The Rite of Spring. For the piece’s centennial, virtuosi pianists Sarah Rothenberg and Marilyn Nonken have created The Grand Gesture, a stark deconstruction of Stravinsky’s masterpiece. Add to the mix Olivier Messiaen’s equally uproarious Visions de l’Amen (1946) and you have an evening of experimental classics defying convention.
