In 2017, the U.S. Department of Education’s Nations Report Card disclosed performance trends among fourth and eighth grade students in New Mexico. Fourth graders were significantly below the national average in math and reading, while eighth graders were also performing below the national average (U.S. Department of Education). How can New Mexico public elementary school students fulfill their learning potential? Extensive research shows that arts integrated instruction is associated with student achievement. It outlines arts integration as a multidisciplinary form of teaching across the curriculum to transform teaching and learning at the elementary school level to change such statistics. …

In her article “A Sinful Reaction to Capitalist Ethics in No quiero quedarme sola y vacía (2006)” Celina Bortolotto analyzes how Lozada’s characterization of the main character, La Loca, questions the ideals of free agency offered by consumerist capitalism and the urban gay male ideal under the promise of a liberating gay lifestyle in a social context defined by identity politics. The novel is a fictionalized autobiographical account of Puerto Rican author Angel Lozada’s misadventures in the early 2000s gay scene in New York. In this dissertation, challenges and limitations related to presenting Così fan tutte within a small university setting are conveyed, as well as offering innovative ideas to create a manageable presentation. I recall my personal experience as Korepititor/Vocal Coach for The University of Southern Mississippi’s 2014 production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. This document presents topics on the various workings of an opera production: pre-rehearsal preparation, language issues, rehearsal preparation, selection of singers, and production issues. Using Practice as Research (PaR) as a methodology, this artefact-exegesis investigates how personal experiences are made theatrical from the perspective of the playwright. Beginning as an example of verbatim theatre, and evolving to become a thriller, the artefact Lifeline provides a specimen of transformation for this project. The exegesis examines uses of material thinking in finding extremes in experiences which become sources of form and content. The research proposes that any limits of the verbatim approach in the context of Lifeline’s material are overcome by allowing preoccupations drawn from other areas of the playwright’s interest to influence creative direction, including …
