'A Century Of Transformations' Exhibit Design, Anne Giangiulio 2013 University of Texas at El Paso

'A Century Of Transformations' Exhibit Design, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

I designed this bilingual exhibit for the Centennial Museum located on the campus of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to commemorate the University's Centennial in 2014. 'A Century of Transformations' follows the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy, which opened as a mining school in 1914, and evolved into the University of Texas at El Paso, a nationally recognized research university. Featuring over 40 text panels in English and Spanish, as well as video slideshows and an interactive sticky note feedback wall, the exhibit highlights the University’s rich history and traditions. It also features significant milestones, distinguished …

Chalk The Block 2013 Poster, Anne Giangiulio 2013 University of Texas at El Paso

Chalk The Block 2013 Poster, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

I designed this poster for the annual Chalk the Block event which took place October 11–October 13, 2013 in downtown El Paso. For the pop-up gallery component of the event, I organized a group of 6 students from my 'Graphic Design 4: Typography' class at The University of Texas at El Paso. Their posters were judged and selected to be on sale in a downtown space, previously a vacant restaurant, which had been converted into a gallery for the three-day weekend event. All proceeds from the sale of the posters went directly to the students.

Conquistador Of The Useless, Anne Giangiulio 2013 University of Texas at El Paso

Conquistador Of The Useless, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

Book cover and interior template I designed for 'Conquistador of the Useless' by Joshua Isard, published by Cinco Puntos Press. Joshua Isard’s debut novel is a hoot. The hero Nathan Wavelsky moves into the burbs with his wife. Life is good. He’s a successful slacker. He doesn’t want to rock the boat. His definition of a good time is listening to his favorite bands on his iPod and staring at the grass and the poplar trees in his backyard. As a mid-level corporate manager, he does what his bosses tell him. If they want somebody fired, he fires them. No …

Next, Anne Giangiulio 2013 University of Texas at El Paso

Next, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

Book cover and interior template I designed for the young adult novel 'Next' by Kevin Waltman, published by Cinco Puntos Press in both hardcover and paperback. Derrick Bowen has one thing on his mind when basketball practice starts his freshman year: winning the starting point guard job. (Well, a girl too.) But his old-school coach makes him sit on the bench. An elite prep school wants him to transfer from his inner-city public school, but all the adults steering him there have ideas of their own.

Remember Dippy, Anne Giangiulio 2013 University of Texas at El Paso

Remember Dippy, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

Book cover and interior template I designed for the young adult novel 'Remember Dippy' by Shirley Reva Vernick, published by Cinco Puntos Press in both hardcover and paperback. Between helpings of mouthwatering shortcake, mysterious ferret disappearances, and a romance that misfires, thirteen-year-old Johnny discovers an unexpected, improbable friendship. 'Remember Dippy' is the 2014 Dolly Gray Children's Literature Award Winner for its focus on autism and a finalist for the The Texas Institute of Letters’ annual award—Fred Whitehead Award for Design of a Trade Book.

Silk Scarf Designed For Utep's Centennial Celebration, Anne Giangiulio

Selected Works Temporary Series

I watercolored over 20 buildings located on the campus of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to design this 100% silk scarf. It is being sold as commemorative merchandising to celebrate UTEP's Centennial Celebration in 2014.

Voices Of Hope: Designing Social Change, Donald Tarallo 2013 Bridgewater State University

Voices Of Hope: Designing Social Change, Donald Tarallo

Presidential Fellows Program

Proposal Abstract:

If awarded this fellowship, I will devote my time to employ graphic design toward creating positive social change for youth living in the underprivileged neighborhoods of Providence, Rhode Island. The change my project will embody addresses a paradigm shift taking place in the graphic design community as the focus moves from design as a practice that fuels a market to the awareness that graphic design is a social practice and that it can be vehicle for powerful and sustainable social change. This effort will inform my teaching, resulting in a model for art and design education addressing social …

Crucial Design Issues For Special Access Technology; A Delphi Study, Pearl O'Rourke, Ray Ekins, Bernard Timmins, Fiona Timmins, Siobhan Long, Eugene Coyle

Articles

Purpose: To develop and demonstrate a method to involve professional users of assistive technology (AT) in the development process of customisable products. Employing the ideas of user participation and mass customisation, this research addresses the need for reduced product costs and optimised product flexibility. Method: An adaptable six-question Delphi study was developed to establish consensus among AT professionals on design issues relating to a specified AT domain requiring innovation. The study is demonstrated for the special access technology (SAT) domain. A modified morphological matrix structures the application of the study results to the product design process. Results: Fourteen professionals from …

Kara Walker: Harper's Pictorial History Of The Civil War (Annotated), Shannon Egan

Schmucker Art Catalogs

The preface to the original edition of Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War, published in 1866 by Alfred H. Guernsey and Henry M. Alden asserts, “We proposed at the outset to narrate events just as they occurred; … to praise no man unduly because he strove for the right, to malign no man because he strove for the wrong." The suite of lithographs on display at Schmucker Art Gallery by prominent contemporary African-American artist Kara Walker entitled Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), on loan from the Middlebury College Museum of Art, challenges the truth Guernsey and …
