Sharing Our Value Through Critical Librarianship, Mary Kickham-Samy, Joshua Neds-Fox, Susan Ponischil, Virginia C. Thomas, Zoë Mclaughlin
Presentations
A critical theorist framework is not new to librarianship or its literature. But, what does the practice of critical librarianship look like in the workplace? A panel of practicing librarians who embrace this perspective share their “boots on the ground” experiences and insights with program participants. Panelists represent several functional areas of academic librarianship including technical services, public services, collection development, instruction, and administration. Our goal is to inspire dialog and collaboration among academic librarians who wish to continue challenging power and privilege in transformative ways.

Faculty Format Preferences In The Performing Arts: A Multi-Institutional Study, Joe C. Clark, Jonathan Sauceda, Sheridan Stormes
Scholarship and Professional Work
Resources for teaching in higher education have undergone a tremendous evolution during the past several decades. The Internet and commercial services, such as YouTube and Google, have revolutionized the manner by which students and faculty access information to both conduct research and meet course requirements. This mixed methods study implemented an online survey and interviews to determine how performing arts faculty at three institutions integrate library resources and services into their teaching. Conclusions indicate that, while personal collections and Internet resources provide a majority of teaching content, the academic library still offers important access to materials for instruction.

Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Li Ka Shing Library was renovated in 2014. During the renovation, the Investment Studio was created within the library to house high-end financial databases such as Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters (now Refinitiv). Usage of the space was assessed using quantitative and qualitative data, comparing the first academic terms across two academic years, 2017 and 2018. The data provided evidence to support anecdotal evidence and library staff’s knowledge and observation. The assessment resulted recommendations for further action. It also provided opportunity to engage with users and stakeholders of this unique space.

Guiding Students Through Choppy Creative Waters: Collaborative Pedagogy To Empower Ethical Creators, Kelsey Sheaffer, Jessica Kohout-Tailor
Publications
With the rise of ‘multimodality’, students are increasingly creating digital projects that require an understanding of copyright that includes Creative Commons, to both search for and appropriately remix the original work of others. In this session, learn how two librarians collaboratively developed their student-centered pedagogy to apply active-learning strategies in the classroom for these special creative copyright sessions. In their approach, the librarians engaged the student-as-producer to make creative copyright more accessible and applicable to their projects. These instructional interventions build on the traditional lecture-style session on Copyright Law to support non-traditional projects.
