Sex Differences In The Speed–Duration Relationship Of Elite Runners Across The Lifespan, Timothy J. Fulton, Christopher W. Sundberg, Blaine E. Arney, Sandra K. Hunter

Purpose

To determine if the speed–duration relationship is altered with age and sex of elite Master’s runners.

Methods

The world’s top 10 performances for men and women in three events (800, 1500, and 5000 m) across six age groups (18–34 yr, 40–49 yr, 50–59 yr, 60–69 yr, 70–79 yr, and 80–89 yr) were analyzed from public data to establish theoretical models of the speed–duration relationship. Critical speed (CS) and the curvature constant (D′) were estimated by fitting the average speeds and performance times with a two-parameter hyperbolic model.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of the Smart Wireless Motion Sensors (SWMS) in detecting deviations or abnormalities in gait between normative and traumatic brain injury (TBI) data.

Introduction: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs are making efforts to recruit underrepresented minorities (URMs) to create a more diverse workforce. Understanding the reapplication process may contribute to more URMs reapplying. The purposes of this study were to examine URM and non-URM DPT program reapplicants, and to identify factors that predicted acceptance or rejection when reapplying to DPT programs.

Review of Literature: Current literature exists regarding the difference between minorities and non-minorities when applying to physical therapy and medical education programs. However, the literature regarding reapplication to DPT programs is nonexistent.

Objective: The purpose of this research study is to compare posture, pain and range of motion (ROM) between young adult eSports gamers and non-esports gamers with similar sitting hours throughout an average week.

Methods: Subjects were recruited using social media and physical posts that included a screening survey. In total, 13 potential subjects were screened and 12 met the eligibility criteria. Introduction. Cerebral vascular accidents (CVA), or stroke, can lead to impairments in strength, range of motion (ROM), balance, cognition, sensory integrity, and motor function. These several impairments all contribute to a decline in dynamic and static balance among stroke patients. Traditional rehabilitation for stroke involves land-based therapy (LB) techniques addressing impairments within each individual patient. Objective: Common residual impairments of the lower extremity following a stroke include hemiparesis, inability or difficulty with walking, decreased walking speed, or decreased balance with ambulation. Mirror therapy is a recognized intervention for stroke rehabilitation that aims to facilitate functional motor recovery of a paretic limb. Introduction: The purpose of this study was to describe self-perceived well-being among Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students in the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic and explore factors associated with well-being.

Methods: This observational study was cross-sectional, using an anonymous, self-administered, nationwide survey. The survey included questions about an array of factors theoretically related to well-being, and incorporated the WHO-5 Well-being Index, the Perceived Stress Scale-10, and the Brief Resiliency Scale.

Results: A total of 1,542 responded to the survey. Data from 1,537 DPT students in the U.S. were included in the analysis. Well-being was positively correlated with resilience …

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to explore perceptions of student physical therapists of a new, small-group presentation model called Presentation-Station-Rotation (PSR). Our hypothesis is that the PSR format will be a more effective, interactive, and stimulating mode of delivery than large group presentations. Method: Thirty-six first year student physical therapists were divided into groups of three students to give a presentation about their clinical experience. The Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) is a tool used to quantify change in gross motor skills over time.
