Leadership Training In Burkina, Corinne Brion 2020 University of Dayton

Leadership Training In Burkina, Corinne Brion

Educational Leadership Faculty Publications

I have been blessed to work in Burkina Faso for the past five years. Our task there has been to build the capacity of school leaders. School leaders in Low-Fee Private Schools (LFPSs) do not have any formal training and in most instances are not educators. Because a training is as good as its material and trainers, we developed contextualized research-based educational leadership materials in which adult learning theories are embedded. We train local school leaders, train local trainers through a Train the Trainers model (TOT), and conduct research.

Leading For Social Justice: A Call To Action To Improve Society., Teresa L. G. Warner

Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership

School leaders are required to prepare students for a globally competitive society, and act ethically to facilitate a shared vision of school practices that serve all students equitably. Social justice leadership provided in school and teacher leadership preparation programs is a way to meet the standards for school executives and teachers. The decision to lead for social justice can be made as a result of district mandates while some leaders are motivated by personal experiences. Leaders are distracted from the importance of leading for social justice due to the pressures of accountability testing and the political outcry of the day. …

Scaffolding Development Of Clinical Supervisors: Learning To Be A Liaison, Jennifer Snow, Hannah Carter, Sherry A. Dismuke, Angel Larson, Stefanie Shebley

Journal of Educational Supervision

Teacher education as a field has embraced the idea that clinically-based teacher education will better support teacher candidate learning and the learning of their future preK-12 students (AACTE, 2018; NCATE, 2010). Likewise, teacher education scholars have emphasized the importance of learning to teach well in clinical practice (Darling-Hammond, 2014). We five women teacher educators engaged in a collaborative self-study to investigate our different perspectives and our institution’s hope for mentoring and preparing new liaisons. Our collaborative self-study focused on the research question: What are the key factors that play a part in influencing the developmental trajectory of a liaison? Through …

Deaning From The Middle: Academic Deans’ Emotional Intelligence And Leadership Effectiveness, Christy M. Tabors, Jacob F. Brewer 2020 Tarleton State University

Deaning From The Middle: Academic Deans’ Emotional Intelligence And Leadership Effectiveness, Christy M. Tabors, Jacob F. Brewer

Journal of Educational Leadership in Action

As higher education changes, academic deans’ roles also adapt to meet the demands of increased enrollment and serving diverse student populations. Academic deans lead from the middle of their institutions; they must report to university administration, while serving the faculty members within their respective colleges or schools (Bright & Richards, 2001; Buller, 2007; Butin, 2016; Dill, 1980; Gallos, 2002; Morris, 1981; Perlmutter, 2017). To meet these demands, academic deans must develop emotional intelligence to lead effectively. Emotional intelligence serves as a skillset for academic deans to use in navigating their administrative duties and serving as leaders for their faculty and …

The Influence Of Principal Leadership On Literate Practices And Instruction In A Middle School, Travis W. Duncan 2020 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Influence Of Principal Leadership On Literate Practices And Instruction In A Middle School, Travis W. Duncan

Journal of Educational Leadership in Action

This case study uses Nicholls’s (1987) meta, macro, and micro levels of leadership merged with Dowell, Bickmore, and Hoewing (2012) and other literacy leadership research (Conley, 1989; Hall, Burns, & Edwards, 2011; Irvin, Meltzer, & Duke, 2007; Marks & Printy, 2003) to analyze the influence of a principal’s leadership on literacy instruction. The findings are similar to the integrated leadership approach emphasized in Marks and Printy (2003) but add additional evidence of cultural and human resource leadership. Strategies and structures that built culture around literate practices were evident. Teacher empowerment and building trust in school culture were important components.
