Utah State University and the College of Eastern Utah merged in July 2010, necessitating the renegotiation of all electronic resource licenses. The author discusses the process of renegotiating licenses, providing access to electronic collections remotely, troubleshooting and other important areas regarding libraries and mergers in higher education. This paper will provide an Electronic Resource Merger Guide to assist future library mergers.

Despite the ever-growing range of media types, formats, and information-access options, students are often instructed to only use specific sources in their research. They are sometimes even given strict guidelines, prescribing how many of each they need to, or may, cite. It is important not to lead students to believe there is a formula for the ideal works cited for all research topics. Much current research in the field of games-based learning demonstrates that games can be successfully incorporated into educational contexts to increase student engage-ment, motivation, and learning. Academic librarians are also using games as an innova-tive instructional strategy to strengthen students’ research skills and their understanding of information literacy concepts. This article discusses the development and implemen-tation of Quality Counts, a classroom information literacy game designed to teach un-dergraduate students how to evaluate Internet sources. Ability to evaluate information is a critical component of information literacy. This article provides strategies for engaging students in learning about information evaluation in the contexts of the scientific publication cycle and communication in the digital age. Also included are recent findings regarding undergraduate student research behavior and ideas for integrating constructivist learning theory in order to develop effective learning activities that encourage curiosity and critical thinking.

This inquiry subjectively examines selected basic communication textbooks for information literacy concepts from the communication discipline point of view. Librarians can build on these concepts in library skills instruction sessions for first-year communication students. This analysis reveals that communication textbook authors are addressing information literacy concepts and standards with content, exercises, examples, and most importantly, context, and they are often utilizing their own discipline-specific terminology to do so. Given the competing demands on librarian's time, teaching and instruction are often a professional responsibility experienced in isolation with minimal colleague feedback beyond summative assessment. This article will describe a peer coaching pilot designed to increase teacher reflection, teacher collaboration, and to indentify future training and professional development needs. The article will report on the program's assessment facilitated by participant surveys. The peer coaching program described offers a model for fostering a community of teachers who are intent on improving and invigorating teaching practice.
