A Journal Usage Analysis During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Serials Trends And Implications, Rebecca Bealer, John Bourgeois

Library Faculty Publications

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic had wide-reaching effects throughout all of society. For libraries, this often translated to a quick pivot to support activities that moved to almost-exclusively online and remote for all patrons. Although the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans Library was somewhat unique in that it never closed during the 2020 height of the pandemic, the majority of its patrons were accessing its resources remotely. Spurred by local anecdotal evidence journal usage had surprisingly declined at a significant rate during 2020, this study aims to determine whether this decline could be demonstrated through statistical analysis of COUNTER 5 …

UT Libraries Faculty: Peer-Reviewed Publications

The University of Tennessee’s Preston Medical Library (PML) collaborated with local libraries for outreach at a Remote Area Medical (RAM) event. Librarians staffed a resource table and distributed consumer health handouts, received and fulfilled health information requests, and administered the Newest Vital Sign, a health literacy assessment tool, to volunteers. Researchers analyzed completed health information requests and health literacy assessment results to better inform future outreach. Collaboration at this event built relationships, particularly with the University of Tennessee Knoxville Libraries, for future community events.

Together We Learn: Collaborating With Medical Students To Build An Online Anti-Racism Guide, Gary S. Atwood, Kate E. Bright

University Libraries Faculty and Staff Publications

In the summer of 2020, students from the medical school’s Social Justice Coalition asked if the library could support their project to build a digital collection of anti-racism resources. Specifically, they asked if the library could host the collection and purchase relevant materials when possible. The project presented interesting policy and technical issues related to LibGuides, the platform we eventually selected. It also provided educational opportunities for the medical students, staff, and the library. After six months of hard work, we launched the collection, titled “Together We Learn: Resources for Our Journeys in Justice & Inclusion” in December 2020.
